Check manufacturing date?,

This review is from: Zenith DVD-2200 DVD Player (Electronics)
After reading the other reviews, I thought I would share my experiences with the Zenith 2200. I bought mine at a local retailer in June of 99. On those movies that played, picture quality with s-video cable was a knockout, and the sound coupled with a sony pro-logic reciever + 5 speakers is superb. This unit sold me on DVD forever. My VHS has cobwebs over the play button. The problem that I experienced with this player is that an average of one in 3 disks would freeze at some point in the last third of the movie. Sometimes I could skip ahead, then back and continue viewing, but more often, I would miss several chapters or the ending entirely. Also, the "Matrix" bug got me with this Player. I also experienced similar problems with "The Wild Wild West". I am hoping that this unit was of early manufacture, and that Zenith has erradicated some or all of these problems. I have finally said goodbye to my Zenith, and am probably going to buy one of the new Sony units. Im tired of missing the end of the show. My recomendation....Save a lot of frustration instead of a few bucks. Pass this player up.

Zenith really screwed this one up!,

I was very excited when I got my Zenith DVD2200 in the mail. Icouldn't wait to hook it up and watch some great movies. My first fewmovies on the machine worked great, but I could not get Ghostbusters to work at all! The player would give me a disc error every time I put it in. Finally, I called Zenith and asked what the problem was. They said it need a software upgrade and to send it in. I did, and got it back about 2 weeks later. This time no discs would work at all! NONE of my DVDs worked. I sent it in again, another two weeks... Now, all my movies work, but I have to put the disc in an average of three times before it will read it. Avoid this unit at all costs! Obviously, Zenith forgot to put the quality in before the name went on. END

Could be Better,

This DVD Player is a descent Player for the money, However it does have several drawbacks. 1> Any DVD that has any sort of multitrack contiguous playback will not play either at all or it will skip all over the place. (Some movies with this problem are The Matrix, The Abyss, Alien, and several others that have multiple editions coinciding together). There is no statement on the DVD movie itself to warn you of this problem. Be warned that most retail sales store will NOT take back any movies for this problem, if they are open. 2> DVD Player has no optical output (Minor problem, if you are looking for the top of the line)

Never mind...,
This review is from: Zenith DVD-2200 DVD Player (Electronics)
After singing the praises of this player I ran into problemswith my next couple pf DVDs. The Abyss continually skipped chapterseven though it played straight through in slow mode. I also had problems with other discs. I could not get tech support since they were closed. Rather than wait-and based on other reviews here, I returned the unit and bought the Philips. I tested ALL my DVDs on it and it works flawlessly. I think that if Zenith fixes a few things they could have a fine DVD player.

Zenith DVD-Player DVD2200 - BE WARNED!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Zenith DVD-2200 DVD Player (Electronics)
I purchased player 6/30/99. It's assembly date states April 1999. I now come to find out player will not play newer and some future DVD movie releases. Zenith is aware of problem but is unwilling to recall. E,G,. The Sci-Fi Movie "MATRIX" cannot be played in this machine. Per retailer (where purchased) other movie titles are likely to have same problem. Zenith using old LASER Tecnology and is unwilling to correct problem, even on new purchases. BE WARNED! DO NOT PURCHASE!

Zenith DVD2200,

(The one star is misleading: I tried to score it with zero stars, but the system wouldn't permit it.) The DVD was defective. Save yourself some time and aggravation and give this DVD2200 a miss.

PHD in video electronics,

This is a one of a kind. The wireing is exelent. I did find a few not well soldered joints but they would not come off unless you banged it agoainsed the wall. The reason DVD players sometimes dont play "MATRIX" is because the movie is programed so badly that it is so hard for the player to decode it... This machine is exelent and if you buy some hi quality cables, it will improve you system's sound and picture by 10 than by using low quality cables. This is and exelent machine and it is very inexpensive. It worth a lot more than you pay for it...I have 87 movies for DVD and I've tried playing about 50 of them, and out of that 50, I could see 49 of them crystal clear! The one that didn't work was really scratched up. Oh and if you use the S-VIDEO out, it really improves your video quality. I now have boughten 2 of these machines, and they both work great!

So Far So Good,
This review is from: Zenith DVD-2200 DVD Player (Electronics)
At first I was reluctant to purchase this product, but I have a Zenith TV which has worked without a glitch for 3 years so I took the plunge into the digital age. The value for the money is great. I have watched many movies on this unit and have had no problems so far. My unit is actually the DVC2200, which is a newer version of this product. I have a receiver that is nearly 10 years old and speakers nearly 20 years old and have noticed a great improvement in sound quality. I can't wait to upgrade these so that I can get a true "home theater" experience! Very pleased so far and would recommend to anyone on a budget.

An Excellent Player/BEWARE OF NOTHING EXCEPT A TRUE BARGAIN,
By A Customer
This review is from: Zenith DVD-2200 DVD Player (Electronics)
I have been a long time collector and videophile of laserdiscs, etc. This is my first DVD player purchase and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the unit. The picture is crisp and sound is wonderful! This is an absolute bargain and it is NOT evident in the player quality. With regard to the "Matrix" DVD, several player models were reported as having read trouble due to the poor pressing of the DVD. It is NOT isolated to this unit. I had NO problem playing any DVDs on this unit.

- Super Player but get units made in MAY 2000 or later ONLY,
By Tenti (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zenith DVD-2200 DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a GREAT unit.... but units made before MAY 2000 may have a bad "firmware chip-set" which MUST be replaced (Zenith will do this for free! if you INSIST on it) So if your unit has problems with the Matrix DVD, you've got the OLD chip-set. Note that the manufacture date is on the OUTSIDE of the box... so insist on one made in or after MAY 2000.The NEW units are super units.... they've played every DVD I've put in... and the price is right... CC has them for 179 also. They only drawback is the lack of Component Video and an Optical Digital output.... but these aren't big problems at all. Easy to use features... great picture, great audio, cheap price. |
