Great Value, Great Product, Good Software Included!!!!!
LG 16X MAX DVD-ROM DRIVE is definately a great product. Extremely low noise and fast playback for both CD and DVD. It's very inexpensive compare to many other brands. Plus it also include a FREE high quality software[PowerDVD]for the DVD movie playback. Many other brands at this price range do not include DVD software...It's also amazingly quiet on both CD and DVD...

It crawls at 1.5X after two weeks!!!
Bought this dvd-rom as a back up to my dvd writer. It came with PowerDVD, which seems to be more versatile than WinDVD. I noticed that it originally read at above 8x max but now it is constantly at about 1.5x, which defeats the purpose of my purchase because it's now reads slower than my dvd writer that rates at a slower read speed! The program that I use to rip dvds...

Bought this dvd-rom as a back up to my dvd writer. It came with PowerDVD, which seems to be more versatile than WinDVD. I noticed that it originally read at above 8x max but now it is constantly at about 1.5x, which defeats the purpose of my purchase because it's now reads slower than my dvd writer that rates at a slower read speed! The program that I use to rip dvds for backup always show something in the buffer, sometimes as much as 50%! My computer slows down to a crawl whenever this dvd-rom is used to rip a dvd; doing something like surfing the web seems to be a chore. You should think about buying some other dvd-rom drive if your purpose is not to watch movies only.
