This device comes with software that barely gets you the ability to play hds and Blues. It's okay, but no dolby surround. They offer an "upgrade" to make it a complete player for $100. So really, this device costs about $100 more than it says it does, if you want a complete product. I'll get the software I need, but there's no way I'm paying them $100. "WIN DVD9 plus blue ray", looks to be a better product than the one they push. It still costs about $100 though.

If you want the ability to read every optical disk format and include LightScribe labeling this is for you. It will write most every format except HD DVD and BluRay, at the price of BluRay media, who cares. Installation was easy in a new Dell Studio 540 with Vista HP, the LG software is complete and easy to use. Once the unit is installed, LG very nicely updates both the software and the drive firmware. A lot of the after installation fun is mining the web for great bargains on HD-DVD titles left over from the disk wars. If it had the ability to burn BluRay I would have given it 5 stars. If reading BR and HD is all you want, give it a 5th star. BTW, everything you need is in the plain brown box, data cable, power cable, and software.

This drive is wonderful....I haven't burned any blu-rays with it yet, but CD's and DVD's work fine, and for $100 who wouldn't want this drive? It can read BDs, HD-DVDs, DVDs, CDs, and burn all except HD-DVDs (which you don't need to burn anyway). It burns/reads fast and is cheap, don't think twice about spending the extra money for this drive if you're like me and must have blu-ray

Easy Install, no problems, auto firmware upgrades, only need to update to the latest BluRay software to play the latest movies. Can't beat the price!!
