It's a DVD burner, so there's only so much you can say about it. However, I was surprised by the amount of extras this ~$30 drive comes with.

PROs:

- Comes with an IDE to SATA power converter. (in case you have an old power supply)

- Packing was terrible (seems like Amazon is the culprit, other vendors might pack it better) You would think/hope they would bubble wrap the drive like most vendors do when shipping OEM hard drives and optical drives. It was packed in a box, inside another box, but the drive and the stuff was spread all around the box, and there was really no padding anywhere, I think this packaging could damage a drive in transit, but mine works fine. We'll see how it holds up.
- Doesn't have lightscribe (a lot of newer drives have this)

Other thoughts:
- Performs like a normal drive, does a fine job.
- It's average in terms of noise


Overall it's a solid drive, would not hesitate to recommend to others, specially because you get nice DVD burning software and some additional goodies.

THE GOOD NEWS: My wife bought this DVD drive for me for Valentine's Day. it arrived fine, was shipped fast, was packaged fine, etc. The drive is fine...I'd recommend it to anyone.

THE BAD NEWS: It was shipped with NO CABLES...and being SATA it requires SATA cables..which are not very easy to find. I went to Staples, Best Buy, Radio Shack, the GEEK Squad, and they all told me the same thing, "You'll have to get them from the drive supplier".....in this case, Amazon. I was discouraged. It would take several days to a week to get them from Amazon...if they were even available.

Then I remembered this little independent computer store near by. You know the kind... computer frames, drives, keyboards monitors cables etc laying around in heaps and piles all over...speak little english, point and smile a lot, nod heads a lot...but the fellow knew right away what I needed...so I was happy again. :) And I'm likely to shop there again.

The two cables (power splitter/adapter, and data) cost $19. Now, with shipping and the cost of the drive, Amazon didn't save me anything at all. I spent several hours trying to track down cables, burned up my gas driving around because each of the places had told me, "Yeah...we have the cables...come pick them up" (NOTE: not Amazon's fault on those lies).

AMAZON....take note!!!! If you aren't going to supply the cables....AT LEAST....say so in your item description...most often the truth in advertising is in what is NOT said more than in what IS said. Right, I know, the ad said "with software" but what would have been nice would be if you had added, "cables not included" or "cables available separately." Yeah...I know..."Caveat Emptor" (let the buyer beware). So...Amazon...WAKE UP...people are not happy when they get kind of stuck like this. If you want repeat customers....well....you figure it out.

I'm happy with the performance of the drive..and the software -might- be useful...i haven't explored that part yet.

The drive itself works well. However, when the drive is empty, it appears to contain a CD with software from LG. I didn't want the software from LG, and I didn't like the fact that the drive appears to contain a disc, when it doesn't really.

LG has an updated BIOS for the drive, which doesn't prentend to always have a disc. If you don't want to take the time to download the BIOS and flash the drive, I would select a different product.

I have tried a number of LG optic drives over the years and all worked perfectly so When I was building my new pc, I thought I will buy an LG DVD-ROM. After reading reviews on couple of sites, I went for this one. As I bought all my pc components from Amazon.com I bought the DVD drive too from here. The drive kept working perfectly burning DVDs and reading anything I throw in it. Suddenly after 3 weeks it doesn't detect any CD or DVD i put in it whether in Windows or in Boot (Tried updating firmware still nothing, reverting to old one and still nothing). Now I have to deal with LG shaky customer support until I buy a new DVD-ROM or LG miraculously decide to fix their below standard products.

I would say stay away from LG products, it seems their quality went down and I won't recommend it for anyone unless you like to gamble.

One of the worst products I have ever purchased. I installed all of the software that it came with, but yet it will not burn not play DVDs. It has had constant problems detecting discs and many error messages and has basically been a pain. Before using this inferior product, I had the same drive for several years and never had any problems.

Comes with some software haven't really used someone else may find it useful. Otherwise its just a no thrills decent DVD drive.

I like this because of the inexpensive cost of these. I recommend this to anyone needing cheap hardware.
