Quality External DV/CD Drive,
By Jeffrey N. Fritz "Nikon Jeff" (Morgantown, West Virginia) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: LG Electronics GP08LU10 8X Slim LightScribe DVD+/-RW External Drive (Black) (Personal Computers)
I purchased the LG Electronics GP08LU10 8X Slim LightScribe DVD+/-RW External Drive to provide my MSI Wind U123 network with access to installation and recovery DVDs and CDs. (The Wind does not have an internal optical drive.)
The drive was recognized by the Wind and Windows XP Home without the need to install any drivers. It has a nice black polished look that matches the Wind's design fairly closely. (This is obviously not intentional, but it is a pleasant coincidence.) The drive is reasonably fast, comes with USB cables and works well. My only criticism is that a carry case (especially at this price) would have been appreciated. But, admittedly, this is a nit. All-all-all this is a nicely engineered drive that is well worth the money.

got what I was looking for,
This review is from: LG Electronics GP08LU10 8X Slim LightScribe DVD+/-RW External Drive (Black) (Personal Computers)
I needed something easy and simply and this did the trick. Software comes with it made my non techy life easy. It may not be the fastest but for my purposes (copying personal photo files so I had back ups)was just fine. Its light weight and easy.

A Perfect Netbook Companion,

This review is from: LG Electronics GP08LU10 8X Slim LightScribe DVD+/-RW External Drive (Black) (Personal Computers)
The LG Electronics GP08LU10 8x is a slim, lightweight DVD+/-RW external drive that does it all without putting a strain on the budget. This device can be USB powered or powered by wall plug in; both connection types come with the unit.
The LightScribe technology this unit offers requires special "lightscribe ready" CD/DVD media but the results are much more professional looking than the press-on labels. Alternately you can use standard media and press on labels but why would you want to? With its' small footprint and light weight this is a perfect companion to your lightweight Netbook.

LG SLIM USB POWERED DVD/CD BURNER,
By G. Matot "GMS" (Arizona, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: LG Electronics GP08LU10 8X Slim LightScribe DVD+/-RW External Drive (Black) (Personal Computers)
Despite other reviews, I have this drive, have only used it on my mac mini, it has always performed as designed. On rare occasion it refuses to read a rental DVD from netflix, but otherwise has always burned/read DVD and CD discs correctly. It is very quiet and very small. Quite simply plug and play with the Mac OS.

At first, I was excited to find a product that was compatible with my MacBook Pro. The product packaging for the GP08NU6B had a picture showing Mac compatibility on the front, and the back of the box listed Mac OS X v.10.5.4 or higher. I was running 10.5.8 so I assumed that everything would be good...WRONG! When I took this out of the box I noticed the dual USB connections. I thought that was a little wierd, but continued to try and install the drive. The drive was never noticed by my Mac regardless of which USB port that I tried to use. I knew that all my ports were functioning properly becasuse I use a USB tenkey and mouse. A second major problem was that there was no online troubleshooting. The product page simply directs you to the nonexistant manual included with the product. On another note, there is a major design flaw in this drive. The dual USB cable is too short. If you don't have two available USB ports right next to each other, you might as well forget this product! Better luck next time LG :(

Overall this is a good product. I love how light it is. However, I travel with it a lot and I wish there wasn't two cables that are needed to plug it in. Also, the button used to eject the dvd is SUPER sensitive and often the DVD gets ejected in the middle of me watching a movie if I bump it wrong.

In the body of the ad and product literature, it states that this product is Mac compatible - well it isn't. I called LG support they advised me that this product is only for windows users and mac's. I had to return it.
