Wish they had mentioned that the side panels are too short to fit this into most standard windows.

Just installed this today and I'm very happy. It's powerful, energy-efficient and the noise is unintrusive. has a very small footprint in the window, which surprised us for an 8000 BTU machine. Airflow seems great; it's almost 40' from our window to our front door and I felt the chill when I walked in. Comes with a good, simple remote, although it feels flimsy even with a battery installed.

The main downside to this unit is it's not very attractive. I returned a gorgeous but noisy Quirky Aros so the visual differences are striking. But hey, it's a strong, Energy Star certified air conditioner that doesn't force us to raise our voices and cools a big space well. Good purchase.

It's impressively quiet. Quieter than an old Goldstar 5,000 btu I had been using. It's also much quieter than a new 8,000 btu Frigidaire that I got rid of (went back to the old Goldstar) because even though it worked okay it was very noisy. This unit is also quieter than A 5,000 btu, a diferent 8,000 btu, and a 12,000 btu Frigidaire ac's that family members have.

Did I mention how quiet it is? It's amazing. This ac unit is in my bedroom right next to my bed where I watch movies with my girlfriend. Every other ac I've used has been noisy and disruptive especially compared to this unit. The noise characteristic is smooth and mellow, when the unit turns on or off it sorts of ramps up and doesn't just turn on or off abruptly.

In two weeks of ownership and constant usage there are only two (very minor) cons I can think of. First off is that it doesn't display the ambient temperature, only the temperature you set it at. The second is that it puts out very cold air. I turned it on while I was finishing installing it and putting everything away and my face was near where the air comes out and it was very cold. Like opening a window in the winter time.

Spend the extra couple bucks and get this ac. It's quiet and ice cold. The two things an ac absolutely should be.

I would have given this window AC 5 stars for the price point if the installation instructions for the curtain had been a bit clearer. The front of the curtain, by the way, has the taller lip on top and conceals the screws that attach the curtain to the AC. One person may be able to install the unit, but It weighs nearly 50 pounds, so I would suggest two.

Once installed, the unit works exactly as expected, and the low noise level on F1 fan speed allows me to cool a 150 square foot room sufficiently while keeping the tv at the normal volume. This may be more capacity than needed for the room, but it also cools the room faster than a smaller unit would.

The LW8014ER unit offers an energy saver mode as well as a dehumidify mode which should come in handy on rainy days that don't require much cooling. It also has a timer mode that should come in handy.

I am not convinced that the temperature sensor is accurate since it shuts off frequently if set to 69 degrees when it feels more like 73 degrees in the room, another reason for 4 stars rather than 5. So I lower the thermostat setting.

I saw that some other reviewers had commented that it was difficult to aim the vent, but I found it easy to move the blower left or right, and you can also open or close the vent. The instructions recommend keeping the vent closed unless you need fresh air in the room.

Great air conditioner, just be sure you shop around, since Amazon is currently charging an outrageous $273 for this unit. Retail price for this thing is really $239 (not the $299 that Amazon is listing), and you can find it for that price at places like Home Depot or possibly Walmart.

Pros
Cools extremely fast
Low energy usage (700 watts)
3 fan settings from quiet to somewhat loud I have yet to use fan speed 3, mostly use 1 and 2
Size large enough to have decent separation between evaporator and condenser

Unit can be installed by one person but you have to do a little prep work first

1. install side curtains
2. install sticky foam onto window bottom after cleaning the window bottom
3. place unit in window
4. secure curtain to window
5. install window stop

to prevent unit from being lifted out of window installed 2 L brackets- one on each side where the bottom screw holds the front cover on. Remove screen and then install bracket and then reinstall screw. when unit is in place install screw into window sill holding bracket in place.

Also, even though the manual does not mention it, as with all window or portable units, you should let it sit for at least an hour before using it. this allows for the refrigerant to properly settle in the system. It will last longer if you do this.
cons
does not display ambient temp

i was hesitant to purchase an air conditioner off of Amazon, but i had a ton of points to redeem and figured what the heck. When i received the package i noticed it was a little dinged up on the corners of the box. after installing it i noticed the side pieces were cracked and after turning it on it made the most awful clicking noise. I logged onto amazon, filled out the damaged goods report and two days later a brand new one arrived. this one is GREAT. Cools down quickly, barely makes any noise, and the energy star rating is top notch. I was really happy with the quick pain free swap out. You cant really ask for much more from a company that delivers the thing to your door instead of having to go to a store and attempt to squeeze it into my car.
