Could Have Been Better, Could Have Been Worse, June 3, 2011
This review is from: LG IPS226V-PN 21.5-Inch Widescreen LED LCD Monitor with IPS Panel (Personal Computers)
PRO:
Incredible picture out of the box. I made only slight modifications, and switched to sRGB.
Deep blacks. I can turn the panel brightness all the way up, and the blacks are still nearly as dark as the bezel when all the lights are off in the room.
IPS for under $200. The next best offer is nearly $100 more.
Incredibly stylish; most other IPS panels are all business.
VESA compatible. The box has a little bag of VESA hardware to compensate for the aesthetically designed/uneven shell.
Great "minimalist" touch panel controls.
DSUB, DVI, and HDMI.
Power LED toggle. Everybody should be taking notes on this one.
Smooth tilt.
CON:
LG doesn't value the quality of their flagship panels enough to replace them without tight stipulations to the "dead pixel" policy. You would think with the panel quality itself being the selling point of the product, and the product not being entry level, that they'd guarantee panel functionality. Sadly, not only did I have a dead pixel quite near the middle of the screen, but LG cited the same policy they would if I had bought any sub $100 linear array panel. I waited a long time to replace my Hitachi SuperScan 751, and felt like LG was the way to go. Very disappointed in LG service, despite my love for the end result, as Amazon was not only gracious about the replacement, they rushed the replacement out long before I expected to see it. Thank you Amazon, for picking up the pieces that LG dropped.

Fantastic monitor for the price, August 26, 2011
This review is from: LG IPS226V-PN 21.5-Inch Widescreen LED LCD Monitor with IPS Panel (Personal Computers)
I was saving up for a Dell IPS panel, but then I ran across the 23" version of this LG at Best Buy while on a totally unrelated errand. I was intrigued that I was looking at a 23" IPS panel for less than $200.
I did a bit of research and saw good, but mixed, reviews for both the 22" and 23", but for $169 for a 22" IPS on Amazon I thought it was worth a shot. I'm glad I got it, it's a beautiful picture, deep blacks, minimal ghosting, crisp text, required little calibration, has no dead pixels or other craftsmanship issues. A faint backlight bleed in the bottom left, but nothing to annoy me and I am pretty sensitive to these things.
The vertical viewing angle is not as generous as the horizontal, so I can't claim that it's as rock-solid as a more expensive IPS. That aside, it's really almost a perfect mix of IPS color and brightness stability and a TN panel price.
No, this is not quite a professional IPS panel. But really, I love this thing. And for $169, I feel like I stole it. 5 Stars.

Inexpensive IPS LED monitor, July 11, 2011
This review is from: LG IPS226V-PN 21.5-Inch Widescreen LED LCD Monitor with IPS Panel (Personal Computers)
I got this display for photo editing since it is an IPS display (better color accuracy) at a very reasonable price. I've had it for about 2 weeks and here's what I found:
Pluses:
-- PRICE: hard to beat for an IPS monitor
-- COLOR: The screen has separate adjustments for brightness, contrast, and RGB color settings. This makes it calibrating easy with a colorimeter (I used an X-rite eye-one Display 2.) I had no problems adjusting the luminance and contrast to the ideal settings for Photoshop.
Minuses:
-- APPEARANCE: Admittedly the stand looks cool, but the bezel itself screams a sub-$200 monitor. Light leaks (below) also makes the monitor look cheap.
-- LIGHT LEAK: A halo of whitish light surrounding the screen where it meets the bezel...very obvious when a black screen saver turns on. It is irregular and pronounced at the corners. When displaying colors other than black the problem is a lot less apparent. If you do a lot of low-key photo editing, this monitor may not be for you.
Overall. I'm fairly happy with the purchase....you get what you pay for.
