The second one he's seen in this area in the past 2 weeks.

I haven't had the microwave burst into flames and that is certainly really scary.

I wish the thing would die so I could justify buying a new one.

We used this brand new microwave for 3 weeks, and last night it caught fire while we were microwaving food.

The food was not burnt, or overcooked. In fact it still had a minute more to go, when I noticed flames inside, at the top fan assembly region. We were able to put it out with a damp towel, but the entire top section was melted to reveal the electrical wiring inside.

We googled to see if anyone had a similar problem and found the review posted just a week earlier hear on Amazon. This is clearly not some random freak accident, but a recurring problem with this microwave.

If you have this microwave, do not leave it unattended while microwaving. If you are considering purchasing it, please please do not do it.

I didn't buy this online either. But I'd like to warn the people who are looking at it. After 4 days of light usage, this burst into flames. The fan assembly in the top melted, and only quick thinking saved us from having it ruin our just finished kitchen.

LG is blaming me for using it incorrectly. Veggies in a Glad container, never an incendiary combo before. They will replace the parts and clean up the "cosmetic" damage, but 2 of the replacement parts are out of stock and there's no telling when they'll manufacture them in Korea.

So, no microwave... Plus, I'm understandably leery of using this model ever.

Buy American, folks. Luckily I learned how to speak enough Spanish to help explain it to the nice folks at the call center in Panama City, Panama.

Another Fire Starter...
After 3 days of being installed by a licensed contractor, the top fan assembly region caught on fire.
My daughter has the exhaust fan blowing, while she was cooking cookies in the Gas Stove below.
about 1 hour into her cookie "bake off" she saw flames inside the Microwave.
Luckily she acted quick, used our fire extinquisher and called me.
Cookies ruined, now have to pay contractor to come back to reinstall a DIFFERENT BRAND
of Microwave Oven. NOT SAFE AT ALL.

I haven't had the microwave burst into flames and that is certainly really scary. What I don't like about it is that the fan is so loud even if it is on low, and the light below for the stovetop is not bright at all. And unless you are looking for a romantic relationship with your pots and pans I would skip this model.

I didn't buy this from Amazon, I bought it from Lowes. The microwave worked fine for the first couple of months I had it. It stopped working 3 days ago though :-(. It acted like it was on but the turn table was not working and it was not heating at all. But all was not lost! I called LG's warranty service where I got through to a person almost right away and they quickly determined the need to send a technician out. He arrived today and was very friendly and personable. He replaced a defective relay with a different one, which was a problem they were already aware of and now the Microwave works again!

I also asked the technician about fire hazards with the top fan since I saw some reviews on here mentioning that. He knew about that issue and the cause and showed me how that problem was already fixed on the microwave I bought new. I know having an appliance that catches fire is a little disconcerting but at least LG was proactive about it. I can't say the same for many companies, foreign or domestic.

I know it's kind of odd to rate something 5 stars that broke after 2-3 months of usage. But also out of the ordinary is customer service. I've seen a lot of products reviewed on Amazon where people had problems but couldn't get through to support or customer service. To me, that's worse than having a product that doesn't work because anybody should know the old phrase "_____ happens." The only question is, what is a company going to do about it when _____ does happen? From this experience, I would not hesitate to buy more LG products because I know they will help me out when/if there's a problem.

We bought this Microwave at Lowes. I think I would have a better chance at solving a Rubik's than installing the thing over the stove so we hired our handyman to do it.

The microwave performs OK but the stainless steel began rusting in 9 months. It is now pockmarked with rust and getting uglier every day.

I regret this purchase.

UPDATE: Here I am a little more than a year after posting my original 1-star review, and I'm wishing there was zero star option. One day about 2 hours after dinner the light inside the microwave randomly came on all by itself! The unit was previously off. Upon closer inspection we noticed not only was the light on, but the turntable was also turning. If we open the door, the turntable stops spinning. If we close it, it begins again. And the light remains on.

Sometimes when we're done cooking something it will power off normally like its supposed to and we get lulled into a false sense that it fixed itself. But then it will randomly come on again later.

It's acting like its possessed. My guess is that all LG products are pure evil, and should be avoided.
