My wife and I bought this refrigerator for our new home. I am usually a big fan of LG products because of their focus on making them user friendly with some well-thought-out features. However, this product has been a disappointment. Less than 2 months after our purchase we had to have the computer control board replaced. The ice maker frequently gets jammmed with refrozen ice cubes because of the design of the outlet which allows ice cubes to thaw and then refreeze at the outlet. In addition, the top freezer drawer gets ice build-up that makes the drawer hard to open. I thought defrosting freezers was something that was in the past! To top it off, we have already had one of the door racks break. This unit is far too expensive to have this many strikes against it!

We have had this in our home for a while now, and so far so good. Plenty of storage space, and uniform temperatures throughout. No cold spots or hot spots that I can find. It has a lot of well-designed shelf space, but the ice maker does consume the entire left side, except for small shelf suitable for a couple water bottles or something.

The ice maker and water dispenser is HUGE. I love being able to fill up an entire pitcher, or those big 48oz mugs without tilting them. We have not had any problems with the ice dispenser jamming up, and it holds a surprising amount of ice. The water filter lasts six months and has a nice visual indicator of the time remaining right on the front. There is also a handy control panel lock feature, which prevents any of the settings from being changed, and any features from being operated- including the ice maker and water dispenser. This is great when you are cleaning or if you have small kids in the house.

The automatic freezer drawers are fantastic. You can either press the buttons to open and close them, or push/pull them yourself and it will sort of "help you". There are a lot of nice touches like the dimming LED lighting, which really lights up the interior nicely. It's also very quiet. We really love this model so far, in every way. If it breaks I'll come back and post an update.

First month water filter cover broke. slowly over the next year shelf brackets have broken and shelves have cracked. I am 49 years old and have owened many refrigerators and have never had any of them break EVER until now. Replacement parts would cost 150.00 and I refuse to put that back into a piece of junk.

My wife and I bought this refrigerator along with an extended warranty a month ago, two weeks after the purchase it started making a grinding noise once in a while. lately the noise has become more frequent and louder. especially at night when everything else is quiet.
Today my wife asked me to return the refrigerator cause she noticed water dripping and ice buid-up on the right side and underneath both drawers, but the worst at the bottom one. so before going back to return it. I decided to check online if our case was the only one, and here I am sharing my experience and reading reviews on different refrigerator brands, because I am not keeping this one.
THANK YOU all suggestion on similar french door models are welcome
P.S. drawers get jammed frequently

I waited several years before upgrading to a modern refrigerator and didn't mind spending some money for a better looking unit, and features that promised to make life nicer. Although this unit looks great and has some luxury features (the LED inside light is cool, moveable shelves), overall it is disappointing. The ice maker frequently gets jammmed at least twice a week with refrozen ice cubes and requires complete emptying to rebuild the supply with usable cubes. The bottom 2 freezer drawers are much less overall real estate space compared to my older, lower cu. ft. side by side unit from 15 yrs ago. Also, have 2 drawers means shorter space and having to shove stuff down to make room.. . . and I do not freeze ahead or freeze leftovers although I would love to. I am online today to purchase a 2nd freezer for needed space (or replace this unit all together). If you don't use the unit or if it is in something like a vacation home, it's great. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

This comment is about LG's poor customer service and the unprofessional attitude of their management. We recently purchased a new LG stainless steel french door refrigerator, model LFX28978ST (the single freezer drawer model). We found our best deal at Home Depot and they delivered it promptly. It came well packed with blue plastic covering all of the stainless surfaces for protection. We inspected the unit to make sure it was in good shape, but left the plastic in place. We had to complete installing our new kitchen floor before installing our new LG, so we had the delivery folks set the unit out of the traffic pattern where it remained untouched for 9 days.

Once the flooring was finished, we installed the refrigerator into a custom cabinet where it fit perfectly. Once in place and connected to water and power, we removed the plastic on the doors as it cooled down so we could start putting things into it. It was after removing the plastic that we noticed a slight but very sharp diagonal dent about 8 inches long on the lower freezer drawer. Since we watched the unpacking and moving of the unit into our home the week before, this dent clearly occurred at the factory. We immediately called Home Depot, and they asked that we call LG since the unit is new.

We called LG, and to make a long story short, they said they would not do anything. Their position was that we have only 7 days (this was day 9) to report any damage. There is nothing on any paperwork that says this, but they said that this is their policy. We asked to speak with a manager, who said the same thing and added "let the buyer beware." This conversation lasted probably 15 minutes, but to no avail.

We then contacted Home Depot again, and they said they would take care of it for us. Home Depot is great! In fact, they were willing to replace the entire refrigerator. Since it was already installed, we agreed it would be far easier just to replace the drawer front. So, the manager of the appliance department came to our home personally with a replacement drawer front and replaced it for us.

While the story ends well and the refrigerator has been in use for several weeks now and we love it, had we known that LG was the kind of company that has no interest in customer service and their management has the guts to say "let the buyer beware" instead of resolving a problem, we would probably have purchased another brand. For those of you thinking about LG, think twice. And if you do purchase one, you may want to think about a warranty from an independent company, as you may otherwise have to experience LG's lack of customer service!

My LG French Door refrigerator, LMX28987ST, purchased April, 2010 list $3,299 failed in June, 2013. The LG Serviceman said the condenser cooling coil needed to be replaced. On June 15 he reported this part was NOT AVAILABLE. A week later the extended warranty company (United Service Protection, Inc.) reported this was covered under the manufactures warranty so up to LG to resolve.
LG kept telling me the refrigerator was going to be replaced if the part could not be supplied. During this entire period I had to initiate all phone calls and follow-up with LG as they kept resubmitting my claim due to errors on their part. Finally, on July 1 they told me they were sending a check for about a $1,000 less than I paid for the 3 year old refrigerator. I was told this was my only option and would not receive the check for approximately 10 days resulting in my not having a refrigerator for a month. My experience with the LG service department, countless individuals, was extremely frustrating from start to end. I will never buy another LG product.
