Works OK but no Updates,
This review is from: LG LN730 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
I received the LN730 when I purchased other LG products, so I can't complain about the price I paid. This issue I have with this unit is getting updated maps. I have been digging around on message boards, all have the same message - No updates planned! There are alternatives to install third party maps, but LG should make this easy for there customers. Currently units are shipped with 2006.Q2 maps... Its now two years later....

Stuck with a map of 2006,

Why would anyone buy this thing for today? The maps are out of date and even worse, YOU CAN NOT UPDATE THE MAPS. There are no updates given by LG!??!! Why would anyone buy this thing? I bought mine in 2007 and it worked great but after a few years, I noticed it wasn't showing any new streets or highways. Don't buy it.

I bought a Garmin years ago. It was too big (because it's so old) to take on a trip that involved a flight out and a long drive back, so I took my father's LG which is not much bigger than a cellphone. It was better than having no GPS, but that's it.
Here are just a few of the complaints. It's not very good at it's basic job. It found my home address easily enough, but entering it involves something of a puzzle. Not so with the Garmin - pick your state and go. LG - pick your state, then choose your method of data entry (no joke), then have it tell you that street doesn't exist in that town, then drive there and have it display EXACTLY that street name as you drive along it. And even though it found my address on the east coast as I was driving back from the west coast, it would occasionally recalculate and suddenly tell me to turn. I was driving a big truck so an unnecesary 10 mile detour cost me about $3 in fuel. It gave me two of those before I just stopped trusting it and relied strictly on a pocket atlas for my basic road plan. Then there's the "navigate to a point on the map feature". Sounds great, but if what you are trying to do is zoom in or out then, unless you are a four-year-old, your fingers are way fatter than the zoom buttons. So you'll find yourself going "what the hell" because you just asked it to navigate to the point right next to the zoom out button. The zoom sucks too. When it's on you can't zoom out when you are moving because it will zoom all the way back in. When it's off you have to manually zoom in and out as you get on and off the highway. On the Garmin you can zoom out as far as you want, when you slow down it zooms in. Makes sense. And don't forget, you "agree" not to operate the device while you are driving. So, even though the ten degree field of view screen (possibly an exaggeration) has a night mode that's not visible in daylight and a day mode that might as well be a flashlight in your face at night, if you don't have a passenger you are going to have to pull over to navigate through the menus to change it. It'll take six accurate button pushes with your big fat fingers to change it. Those GPS satelites just sit there broadcasting the time. That's how GPS works. When the time equals dawn or dusk for that day why not have it change display mode automatically? That's what the Garmin does. If you plan on turning it off and taking it in the hotel room at night (always a good idea, although a discerning thief will surely pass up the LG), don't count on automatically resuming your trip the next day. You will probably have to go through the menus to re-establish it. This unit is so poorly designed that I will think twice before ever considering another LG product.

I am very happy with the purchase of a GPS unit by LG. The product is great and the purchase through Amazon was very fast and simple. I would highly recommend purchasing through Amazon as I will be sure to in the future.
