5.0 out of 5 stars LG Microwave
My 5 year old GE Profile Spacemaker 2 microwave turned out to be junk and I replaced it with an LG. The LG unit was approximately the same size and I had only to change the wall mounting bracket. The mounting holes for the under cabinet type mount matched the GE unit. Within 15 to 20 minutes I had the LG unit installed and working. The LG unit does everything the GE...

3.0 out of 5 stars LG disappointment
We replaced our GE microwave with LG during a kitchen remodel. We chose LG b/c we love our LG french-door fridge. Here are the issues we have with the LG microwave you may want to consider.
1. "touch" selection must be pressed very hard to start selections.
2. "beeps" 7 times when food/timer is done. If you are out of the kitchen at the time the microwave...

The mounting holes for the under cabinet type mount matched the GE unit. Within 15 to 20 minutes I had the LG unit installed and working. The LG unit does everything the GE unit did and does so much quieter and at about one-third the price. I expect to get more than 5 years out of this unit; but, if not, I'm still ahead money-wise. The unit was purchased on-line from Amazon which I recommend highly! Great price and I had the unit in a few days.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple., November 4, 2011

Its a microwave and it works. Installation was simple, although the instructions suggested drilling holes that are far larger than necessary. Not wanting to chew up my new cabinets too much, I made holes the size that was actually required and didn't have any issues. If you're a spaz and can't follow the template they include, then perhaps you should reconsider doing this yourself. You will definitely need two people to mount it, but other than that its no big deal.

The buttons are not hard to press as someone else complained. All expected features are there as well, if not explicitly named what I expected them to be. If reading the owners manual isn't your thing, at least experiment before complaining.

Only one gripe which cost it a star, the top portion where the vent is was covered in fine scratches. We contacted LG and they're supposedly sending a replacement part. Its clear that it was that way from the factory as the protective film over top wasn't damaged, nor was the box, nor the massive box that amazon shipped it in.

Overall, I'd do it again. Far better than the GE garbage the builder tried to rip me off with.

If you are out of the kitchen at the time the microwave beeps, you aren't "reminded" with another beep and you might over-cook something. This has happens many times and is really a problem.
3.Does not have the express 1-4 minute auto cook setting or a "30 second" cook button. Instead, the LG has a "9 second" button along with a "+" (plus) which adds an additional 9 seconds.
4. The "super" fan is not as super as advertised-very disappointing when you are cooking fish- and in addition is noisy.

5.0 out of 5 stars GE Replacement, January 14, 2012
By
This review is from: LG OTR 1.8 CF 1100-Watt Microwave, SS (Kitchen)
The installation was really easy the same bracket from the GE fit the LG perfectly. It was not that heavy and if you are brave you can install it by yourself. I'm 6', 200 lbs (okay 210) and I was able to hold the microwave up, drop the screws in the top from over cabinet and tighten them to the point that the microwave would not fall then I used a latter to finish tightening them from above.

I think the presets are better than the GE I had previously. For example, reheating pizza using the pizza button melts the cheese on top but does not over heat the bread. Overall, it seems to do a better job of heating the entire piece of food not just the middle.

By the time the real quality of this microwave is determined it will be long since discontinued. I based my decision to get an LG on the quality of other LG appliances that I own (washer & dryer and computer monitor). I have been happy with the quality and function of all these appliances and will continue to purchase LG products until I have a bad experience with one. Sorry GE you had a good run but now quality is no longer synonymous with your name.

The microwave is also more attractive than the GE and the stainless steel looks like it made from higher quality stainless steel. The GE just kind of looked cheap. Almost like the stainless steel was stuck on as an after thought.

One nice feature that I almost forgot to mention is the timer on the vent. It is just nice to turn it on for 2 minutes and have it shut off automatically.

I am very happy with this microwave and would purchase it again.

We selected this microwave to replace an old GE that was original with the house.

We thought about getting this microwave from Home Depot online, but they wanted to charge an additional $50 for an OTR installation kit. Ordered it instead from Amazon, no additional OTR installation kit needed.

Installation wasn't too difficult, mount the back plate, drill holes under the cabinet for the top screws and it was up. We did need to pickup some extra large washers for support in the cabinet as the hole placement for the previous microwave were close to the new holes and wanted to be sure there wouldn't be any issues. The mounting plate was very different from the GE requiring us to drill through back splash tile because the mount was much larger than the GE (which slid on rails). The LG mounting plate is about the same size as the microwave itself (width and height). I wish I would have done a bit more research on the mounting - would have saved me some $ not having to buy tile drill bits to go through the back splash.

Once we got the unit in and running, we discovered the door edge wasn't cut properly so it catches on the hinge side when opening and closing. We called LG for a replacement, they sent a tech who was going to order a new door, that was about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. We did have an odd buzzing noise when we first got it in - sounded like plastic rubbing against a fan - but haven't heard it after the 1st day of use.

The microwave cooks great. We're really happy with the reheat function and the sensor cook. Fresh and frozen vegetables come out perfect every time.

The touch pad does need to be pressed pretty hard and the layout isn't all that user friendly. I press the "clock" button a lot when I just want to use the "timer".

Would I purchase the same unit again? I don't think I would. That said, I'm not planning on replacing it.

I bought this microwave after my expensive GE profile microhood quit a few days after warranty. This one, I am using over a year now and does what MW is supposed to be doing :) . Although the vent is not so good. I can still smell food all over the house even if I use vent in Turbo mode.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, July 22, 2011
By
This review is from: LG OTR 1.8 CF 1100-Watt Microwave, SS (Kitchen)
The unit we've got was poorly assembled and was making an annoying noises. The problems was that almost all screws at the bottom of the microwave were not properly tightened. We also found that one of the light bulbs was missing.
It worked OK for a few months after the fix and then it just died. So we had to spend a couple of weeks without microwave until its control board was replaced. But it worked OK for only two weeks that and now it randomly shuts down. The technical support were unable to identify the problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Specifications/dimensions innacurate? LMV1813ST OTR LG Microwave, November 20, 2011
This review is from: LG OTR 1.8 CF 1100-Watt Microwave, SS (Kitchen)
I want to purchase this LG OTR microwave, but not if it's really 33 inches wide. LMV1813ST Not sure that this microwave specifications/dimensions match the model #. It says it's 33" wide, but that doesn't match up with the exact model number on the Home Depot Site that says the same unit is 29.87 in. wide. I want to purchase this unit, but 33 inches won't work for my installation. Can anyone comfirm that the unit is 33 inches wide? Does it come with the mounting kit? Home Depot wants to charge another $49.95 for that.
