Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Zenith D36D51 flat-screen television is ready to receive standard broadcast signals out of the box--and will let you enjoy high-definition programming once hooked up to an HDTV receiver. This stylish silver 36-inch set features a flat picture tube with Invar mask, 3-line digital comb filter, 1080i resolution capability, 16:9/4:3 aspect ratio correction, and scan velocity modulation for sharp picture rendering. The included universal remote offers a unique thumbstick control.

The Dynamic Focus feature ensures accurate side-to-side focus and alignment of red, green, and blue color beams to the center of the screen. The picture-in-picture (PIP) function enables you to put a smaller picture--called the inset--on the bigger screen. You will need to have another broadcast source (audio/video device connected to a VCR) to display an additional picture.

It offers MTS/SAP audio broadcast, built-in 5-watt stereo speakers, and trilingual menus (English, French, and Spanish).

Included Jacks
RF in, high-res component-video in (Y, Pb, Pr; 2 rear; 1080i/480p), S-video in (1 front, 1 rear), A/V in (1 front, 2 rear), and A/V out (1 rear).

Tech Talk

  • Active lines: Scanning formats are measured in active lines of picture elements or pixels transmitted, both horizontal and vertical. The number of total pixels is calculated by multiplying the amount of vertical lines by the density of horizontal picture elements. For example, the 1920 x 1080 HDTV format has more than 2 million pixels (1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600). Today's NTSC video only has a resolution of 211,200 pixels (480 vertical lines and 440 horizontal pixels).
  • Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Today's standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. A 16:9 aspect ratio is widescreen and appears rectangular--it looks more like a movie screen, filling more of the viewer's field of vision to yield a lifelike viewing experience.
  • Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, creating a seamless image.
  • Frame rate: Also known as picture rate, the frame rate is the speed at which the lines are scanned in order to create a video frame--60, 30, or 24 frames per second.
What's in the Box

1.0 out of 5 stars awful tv-worse customer support, May 16, 2005
This review is from: Zenith D36D51 36-Inch HDTV (Electronics)
had this tv for about a month when things started going wrong. 15 months later (4 of it in the shop) and the picture tube is dead. zenith refuses to do anything to help and are actually quite obnoxious about it. i bought an extended warranty from philips warranty service. it sounded good. it turned out to be a ripoff. after they couldn't fix it instead of replacing it they offered me .20 on the dollar for it. they are supposed to have a lemon policy that replaces your purchase but they have a loophole that gets around that. my advice is to stay away from both companies.

1.0 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY!, January 13, 2007
This review is from: Zenith D36D51 36-Inch HDTV (Electronics)
I purchased this HDTV at the end of November, and it has not worked since. The company refuses to take any responsibilty for there own product, and has not helped at all in the replacement. The store I purchased it from SOUND CITY in Franklin/Denville NJ, also refused to take the HDTV back. I would advise anyone looking for a new HDTV, NEVER to buy Zenith or LG, and NEVER shop at SOUND CITY. I have bought numerous electronics from AMAZON, and they have always been great. Buy from here, good company, good prices and good products. Just remember no ZENITH or LG. - Mr. Adam Carbery
