This review likely applies to ALL the 5X sets of protective screen covers sold on Amazon for the LG Optimus phone for just under $4,including shipping. The V and S phone models are physically identical. I had just bought one, and my son gave me one of his protective sheets he had bought through Amazon for his phone. He does not know the exact vendor, as he has had his Optimus and protective sheets for over a month.

I'm writing because in the reviews several people report trouble with the application of the protective layer, while many others do not. My experience may have mimicked those who had problems. Yet the problem was of my own making. I'm writing so others can learn from my experience. The two star review is a lie; it deserves 4-5 stars, really, but I want this to be read by the suspicious or the inept, so I am putting this down for two stars.

Each protective sheet actually comes as THREE SHEETS of plastic, with one tab sticking out for pulling off the bottom sheet and another tab for removing the top sheet from the actual middle protective layer. I did not initially know that three sheets were involved. Thus, for a while I was cursing the manufacturer, as some reviewers have, for using a permanent-type sticky goo for attaching the top layer tab to the top sheet. That was when my son pointed out that there were three sheets and that I did not have to remove the tab from the top sheet; I had only to peel the top sheet off of the middle layer.

The idiot (me) proof instructions should be as follows:

There are THREE sheets of plastic. The middle sheet is the actual protective sheet for the phone, being sticky on one side (the bottom)and smooth on its top. The other sheets protect the middle one from grease and fingerprints until the middle layer is attached to the phone. The bottom film is peeled off initially. This exposes the sticky side of the middle layer, protective screen. Then one sticks the COMBINATION of the protective, sticky-on-one-side, sheet and the top sheet onto the phone, starting on the bottom and working toward the top. This readily enables a bubble-free attachment. Finally, one peels off the top layer, starting with the paper tab that is affixed to the top sheet. This leaves the phone ready for use with the tab-free actual protective screen attached.

I wanted a screen protector for my LG Optimus V and was wary of ordering these after some of the reviews. I decided to order them anyway and am glad that I did - they worked out way better than I expected.

3. The screen protector was super easy to apply. This isn't rocket science people and I don't understand why so many reviewers are having problems. I'd been using my phone for a month before I got these protectors and the screen had plenty of oil and dirt on it. I used the supplied cloth to wipe the screen off and it was clean. Then I applied the protector. Just line up the protector and peel off the backing bit-by-bit (not all at once!) while you squeegee along with the card that's included. I had two small bubbles that were very easy to squeegee out at the end.

This protector fits perfectly on my LG Optimus V.

These screen protectors work perfectly, unnaffected touch sensitivity, crystal clear, and no t sticky!, so can be changed anytime, and doesn't come off either!

There have been a few other reviewers saying that this did not fit their Optimus V (that's V for Virgin, which unfortunately is not as cool sounding as it would be if it were an Optimus Five). In short, this did not fit my Optimus V phone. There do seem to be mixed reviews which make me wonder if the products being sent out are inconsistent (my set of cover films only had the dent in the top for the speaker, and did not have a notch to the left of the speaker that some have complained about. However, the notch is apparently for the proximity sensor - the phone manual says not to cover it, but I tested using an app and the proximity sensor works fine without the notch.)

As a perfectionist, I am persistent when it comes to bubbles. I had no issue with the tri-layer system (if it had fit, it would have been wonderful). But as they were, the films are larger than the screen and so the edges of the film overlap the plastic of the phone, and there is a large (albeit symmetrical) bubble all around the bottom and side edges (assuming you line up the top edge with the speaker). With my first cover, I attempted to install the film, then took it off, attempted to cut it to fit, then got frustrated with uneven edges and increasingly accumulating lint. Let's skip over the next few attempts. With my very last cover film, I decided to go for perfection. Using a bright lamp, ruler, dry-erase marker, and sharp scissors, I managed to cut the film straight and symmetrical, and slightly smaller than the actual screen. The top and sides of the film cover are flush once you put on a snap-on hard case. There was a bit of a gap on the bottom once I trimmed it, but that doesn't bother me as much as the bubbles would have.

If this had been an exact fit, it would have been very convenient. If you are the kind of person who will spend an hour measuring and trimming to try to get the screen size right, then you might want to save yourself some grief.

Edited to update: After using for less than a week, there were multiple major scratches/scuff marks on the screen. After all that trouble, I ended up taking it off and reusing the older (and apparently more durable) screen guard I'd been using previously.

Edit/Update #2: The above review is for the screen shield sold by TDC Direct. I decided it was worth another shot and ordered this product from OEM Planet. It is a different product. The stickers on the outer film layers are different, and THESE ONES FIT! Awesome! They also seem to be a little bit thicker and more durable than the ones from TDC Direct. So I guess it may be a bit of a grab bag on quality depending on which vendor you buy from, but it's cheap enough to take the chance.

I ordered these for my new LG Optimus V phone (Virgin Mobile) 'cause all the reviews I saw were good. These DO NOT fit my phone. All 5 of them are too big for the screen. I'm glad I spent less than $1 on them, so it's not a waste of a large amount of money. I DO NOT recommend them for the Optimus V. I can't say anything about the others, though.

This is the 3rd type of screen protector that I have tried for my phone, and I would put it in the middle as far as my personal preference. The first one was one of the types that requires water for application, the second was a fairly standard stick on type, and then this one which has a matte texture. The texture is advertised on the packaging as anti-fingerprint, anti-glare, bubble free, and dust repelling. So far I can say this description is fairly accurate. These traits give it an advantage over some protectors, but it comes at a price. The biggest problem is that it causes a slight grainyness to the picture. It is most noticeable when you are looking at a light colored screen. Honestly it was more annoying at first, but I can see eventually getting used to it. Because of the matte texture the screen feels somewhat rough, almost like paper. This will also be a matter of personal preference. I like it because it makes the whole screen feel uniform, and even if my hands are a little dirty the screen always feels the same. The second screen protector I tried (the standard non matte version of this protector) got fingerprints and smudges easily, to the point where the slightest touch even with clean hands would leave a visible smudge. So it's nice to not have to worry about that any more. I can actually take the phone out and use it without feeling the need to wipe the screen down every time. The protector went on fairly easily with no visible bubbles, and I liked that all 5 protectors were individually packaged with a microfiber cloth and a little applicator card/squeegee. When applied the protector came almost to the edges of the top and bottom of the screen, but left about a 1/32" gap on either side of the screen which isn't major. Overall I prefer the sheildz brand one that took water to apply. It took a few days to fully 'cure', but ended up being almost invisible, and still somewhat resistant to smudges. it was a pain to apply though. If you are looking for a quick and easy screen protector to apply that will resist smudges well, and you don't mind a little grainyness to your screen then this is a good choice.

I would love to review this item the problem is that I ordered it a month ago and still have no received it. I think that is an awfully long time to not have received something that is not being custom made or engraved..it is a simple five pack of clear protectors which I guess I could have picked anywhere. A month is just ridiculous. Will continue to order from Amazon but will not order from this specific business again.

I have been reading reviews about the screen protectors taking a month to get here so I just ordered some more from a different seller no big deal now. Also had I known this stuff ships from china I probably wouldn't have ordered it

This does the same job as harder-to-find items at retail stores and maybe even more at cellphone outlets at a fraction of the cost. The fit was perfect the first time. The protectors are slightly more grippy than the phone's touch surface, so you'll want to be prepared for that, but it's worth it.

One note of warning if you use a pattern lock. Screen protectors make streaks from skin oils show up much easier, so if you're in a place where you're phone is going to be out in the open, somebody who knows what they're doing might be able to figure out your pattern from the streaks. Easy fix: once you lock it back, wipe it against your clothing well enough so that your pattern isn't obviously still "written" on the phone.

I have the LG Optimus from Sprint and these are useless. They don't fit (about 2 mm too big on each side). It also attracts dust. I tried three times, and each time I cut it down to size and pulled of the pack piece...and wham! three or four particles of dust were stuck to it and I had instant bubbles that I couldn't get out. It's almost like these are statically charged.

They don't cost much at all...but they worth less still.
