Good Phone, but there's room for improvement, 3.5 stars,
By
This review is from: LG Rumor LG260 Phone, White (Sprint) (Wireless Phone)
Pros:
-Uses Sprint Vision (Not Power vision - EV-DO) so I didn't need to change my plan. -but this may be a con for others- -Qwerty key pad -1.3 Mp camera - Applications: Facebook, Aim, Instant messenger, Email, internet. -Micro Sd slot so you can store more music and pictures -Bluetooth -size and weight is great and the raised buttons make it easier to dial. -music player sounds pretty good Cons: *Some of my con's are quiet specific to things that I usually want/need in a phone, and didn't realized until after I had received the phone. Its still a good phone, but I would be happier if it had some improvements. -Camera doesn't have a flash. -Glitches in photo program. If you select pictures to save to your phone (either via online albums or pictures sent) it may save the photos you didn't want, or will just save the first photo 3 times, instead of the 3 different photos you selected. -QWERTY key pad should have a button for the period, you need to "shift" then hit the period. -The typing software can use some improvement, such as predicting words and such. The feature is there but lacks accuracy. -Screen needs better resolution & colors. currently 176x220 pixel resolution. -*Can't use own music (on SD card) as ringtones, -*Difficult/can't use own pictures (from SD card) as the background/screen-saver.. I still can't figure it out. -*Short cut navigation key for some reason the category "My content" doesn't let you make a shortcut for the sections within it. I want a shortcut key to Google maps, which is within 'my content', but it doesn't allow it, the best it will do is let you shortcut to 'my content' and then you have to scroll from there which is kinda annoying.. -*The idle/key lock screen is always the black screen with the time that you can't change. -*There isn't a flashing light to tell you of a missed alert, until you click on a button and see the black/keylock screen. Else the phone just looks like its sleeping, so you have to consistently click on the buttons to see if you've missed any alerts. Pictures you take with the phone look pretty well (granted you have the prefect lighting) on the computer, but everything on its low resolution screen makes photos seemed washed out and blurry.

Very Nice,

Over all this phone is very nice. I've had it for a while and I've certinly put it to the test. It's been dropped, thrown, and even submerged in water for about 2 seconds and it still works fine. One thing that has occured because of the daily ware is a really annoying creaking noise when I type. It's usually just w/ the numbers but it sometimes w/ the qwerty keyboard. I highly recomend it as a first or second phone for ages 12-25. The texting is awsome and there's no fuss of adding names and such to the T9w dictionary. If you don't usually text this phone is just like any other. But in the end I give it a 5 star rating.

Great Phone,

This is really a great phone. I have chubby fingers but the keyboard was easy to use. There is room for improvement, of course. At the moment there are not many applications you can use with this phone. For instance, games like Jewel Quest, Solitaire, etc. The only pack you can get is the Vision Pack. The browser could be better. Overall, I love the phone!!

Good phone. Rant is better.,

I had this phone for a year and used it often - all features except anything internet related as I don't have that service. But I beat mine up and got a Samsung Rant 2 weeks ago. So read this review if you are debating between the LG Rumor and Samsung Rant. i wrote this review to highlight pros, cons and differences...not all available features are discussed.
Personal Highlights... * great for texting * love candy bar phones - flips are annoying and feel too delicate to me * personalization options - screensaver, banner, menu colors, some fun ringtones * good call quality * automatic keyguard with one-button release * cute and fun design * full qwerty keyboard with easy to use functions * simple interface, user-friendly * music player with great sound quality * song pauses when a call comes in * don't have to go through sprint music store to access player, so getting to it is very fast * decent camera quality * supports up to 4GB mini SD card, and card slot is easily accessible on side of phone Personal Dislikes * on a text-focused phone, it takes a minimum of 4 button clicks to send a text message if you have the numerical sequence memorized (that is, you know that the number 6 button is for text message and don't have to scroll). realistically it can take up 10 clicks if you have to scroll for options or the recipient just to send a message * there's a dedicated messaging button, but the first option is voicemail, then a bunch of others, and finally the 6th option is text messaging * auto keyguard is great, but if you BARELY nudge the slider, the keyguard is released. this can happen just by walking with it in your pocket. wasted battery life and minutes with "butt calls" * music player is shuffler only. no folders or playlists * low screen resolution * ringer and speaker volume not very high, even on loudest settings * menu colors are fun, but there are only 4 options: black, pink, blue and tropical (which is pink, yellow and orange) * can't view rest of music selection while a song is playing. it will stop the song Why I Like the Samsung Rant Better... * have to fully open slider to release keyguard * much better screen resolution * can make folders and playlists with music player * louder ring and speaker * feels sturdier, slider is smoother * qwerty keyboard has rubberized keys, which is a little less slippery * awesome scroll-style menu on main screen that's fully customizable (called One Click) * depending on how you arrange One Click, it can be as little as 2 clicks to text messaging with no scrolling though menus * easier, cleaner interface (in general, i like Samsung interfaces best) * AWESOME camera quality for a cell phone * you can review your other music while listening to a song. in fact, you can do anything while listening to a song, except make a call. song pauses when a call comes in * overall, it just seems like a refined, polished version of the Rumor * i don't subscribe to GPS service, but it's an option with this phone If you're comparing, there are downsides to Rant... * qwerty keyboard keys are a little smaller and flatter so it's a little more difficult to type * you can't change the menu colors - stuck with black and yellow (though I like how it looks) * requires two-button sequence to release keyguard * can't dedicate a singal button to access the calculator, so have to use main menu, or One Click. a little annoying if you use your calculator as regularly as i do * have to remove back cover to access mini SD card. at least you don't have to remove the battery as on some phones * have to go through Sprint music store to access music player, which is slow and annoying. but once you get there it's a much better set up than on Rumor. I would recommend the Samsung Rant over the LG Rumor, but both phones are a great option if you like candy bar phones, text messaging, qwerty keyboard, music, and simple interface.

LG Rumor Review.,

THE GOOD
The LG Rumor has a lovely design, with a built-in hidden QWERTY keyboard for easy messaging. Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, Bluetooth, and more. It provides easy access to Facebook, plus it supports Sprint Navigation. THE BAD The LG Rumor does not have EV-DO, and surfing the Web can be quite slow. The screen has poor resolution, and the camera has no flash. THE BOTTOM LINE Though the LG Rumor is not as fast as we'd like, it's still a great messaging multimedia device for those who don't need a lot of speed. http://www.LG-Rumor.com has more information.

Generally Awesome,

I have only had this phone for about a week. So bear that in mind as you read. When I first got the phone, the pic mail was working fine. Then it wasn't for a day, so I called customer service and they fixed it within 1/2 hr. Then it stopped working again for a few hours yesterday due to "network difficulties". I was also trying to make calls yesterday and the person on the other end could only hear an echo. Now I am a little concerned over the quality of this phone. Although I do love the features on it. Vision is awesome, I can IM on Yahoo, get my email quickly. The camera takes very good quality pics if there is enough light. And the keyboard makes it simple to text. My battery lasts me the whole day and I am a constant texter and caller. As stated before, I am a little concerned over quality, so I would recommend buying the insurance.

This phone is outrageous.,

Texting keyboard, nice colors (I have a royal blue), it's a camera, it's a camcorder, it's an mp3 player, it has video options, you can get ringtones from [...] for cheap (you only pay for the minutes you use on the internet downloading the songs/wallpapers, whatever), after a a few seconds of inactivity, it locks so you don't waste the battery as much (just unlock/lock it by pressing and holding the back button for about 2 seconds), you can surf on the internet (it's free/or isn't free depending on the plan you get), tons of settings and tools to fool around with and much more.
This is the first phone that was an mp3 player, a camera and a camcorder all in one (for me) so I'm enjoying taking pictures and listening to music very much. There is only one super-small issue that shouldn't be a big deal and might happen with other phones too - when someone texts you, and you don't reply but you DO see the message that was sent, the phone acts like you never saw the message and counts it as a missed message. Very minor like I've said but I just thought I'd mention it. The pictures that it takes are pretty good as long as there is good lighting. 4 stars. end note: Get the LG Rumor. It's a great phone, and although I've only owned two cell phones in my lifetime I think that's saying something. My first phone was a Virgin Oystr and you couldn't go to myxer.com because it wasn't compatible. If you get this phone I promise you won't regret it. Plus, it's a phone that not many people go for, I think. Most everyone is going after the iPhone or Blackberries which are too expensive/and aren't worth it from what I hear. The main downfall with this phone I've had for almost 2 months now is that the camera works on and off. Sometimes when you try to access it it works fine, and other times, the screen goes stationary and doesn't go to the camera at all so you must wait and then come back to it.

I really wanted to love this phone, but...,

Review of LG Rumor, 2/9/2009
I wanted to love this phone but... ...there's no way I could love something that causes me so much daily frustration. VALUE: I bought this phone to replace a defective KRAZR and because I'm a textaholic (as are most of my friends). I didn't love the price (and there's no way Sprint was cutting me a break, no matter how loyal a customer I've been) but I was willing to pay for a cute little phone with a QWERTY keyboard. I knew it had some issues, so I made sure to purchase the $7/mo insurance plan, too. LOOK & FEEL: I loved the look and feel of the phone when I got it. It fits nicely in the palm of my hand, it's light and the slide-out keyboard feels natural and solid, not flimsy as I had heard it could be. I bought the white/silver one which got dirty pretty quickly, so I bought a grey-market cover for it. The buttons on the front and on the slide-out keyboard require a firm touch, which is good for avoiding the dreaded 'butt dial' when it's not locked. The graphics are not stellar - nothing like my old i860 or even the KRAZR - but I don't play games or record video so it doesn't matter to me. The charging slot at the bottom is a bit crooked - it takes some wiggling to get the charger plugged in, but it fits securely. PERFORMANCE: For three months I had almost no problems with this phone, with the exception of interminably slow internet access. I made and received calls, texted constantly and used the Sprint Navigation feature. I programmed it to access all my email accounts, which it did slowly and with great effort. After three months I started having problems with the phone freezing up, much like a PC with too little memory. At first I thought it WAS a memory problem, so I cleaned out every non-essential file on the phone - screen savers, picture mail, ringers, call tones - everything. It got a little better for a few days, only freezing during texting once every day or so. Then it started freezing during dialing or when I tried to answer a call. I tried running the battery all the way down and charging it back up, which again, helped for a few days but after that the problem steadily got worse. Now, after seven months of ownership, my LG Rumor freezes with nearly every single action I try to perform, from making calls to typing texts to accessing the menus. It will simply stop responding, the screen will go dark, and if I'm very lucky it will eventually 'catch up' after a minute or two of waiting. Other times it simply shuts down forcing me to remove the battery and start over. I've contacted Sprint about this issue, but they pretend it's news to them and tell me to take it to the repair store or contact the insurance company. Unfortunately I can't afford to send off my phone to be fixed as it is my only phone for both personal and business. Shame on me for putting so much in Sprint's incapable hands! PHONE FEATURES: I love the slide-out keyboard, but the buttons on the keyboard were a little tough to master as they're very small and I have long fingernails. The paint is also almost completely worn off some of the buttons making it hard to see them in daylight. The camera is junk, as I expected after reading other reviews. There's no flash so the photos are ridiculously blurry and dark, but as a photographer I don't usually take pictures with a cell phone anyway. Frankly, I've seen better results from disposable kid's cameras. MEDIA (SOFTWARE): The software isn't too bad, but I find the lack of a call-duration record on the call log a bit frustrating. It tells you when the call began but not how long it lasted - you have to remember to check after you hang up and before you clear the screen. I also discovered the phone signs on to the internet at random times, like when I'm dialing a number or accessing text messaging, which could be a real problem for anyone without unlimited internet access. I do like the Sprint Navigation feature - it's almost as good as my Tom-Tom (which admittedly isn't saying much). All in all, the software isn't anything special and could use some improvements, like the ability to sort texts by sender or a longer character limit for both texting (160 characters) and the memo field of contact entries. Overall, I find I must resist the temptation to hurl this phone across the room, out the car window or into the lake on almost a daily basis. It's a great concept and a cute, stylish accessory but a very poor communicator, which makes it little more than a $280 space-waster in the bottom of my purse.

Great deal!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The combination of this particular service package and phone is an excellent deal and I have been taking advantage of the unlimited data traffic privileges and GPS service available with the plan. The phone also was a great deal due to the discount and mail-in rebate that essentially made it free. Although I have not yet received my rebate check, I'm sure it will be along any day now...
