4.0 out of 5 stars A good and solid phone
My first impression about this phone is it is shiny, solid and heavy. Part of the phone brazzle and back cover is made of stainless steel, so it is about 1 ouce heavier than other plastic phone with the same size. It feels very well built, the fit and finish is very good. It has a lot of chrome on the edge, and the screen is shiny like a mirror, perfect for self obsessive...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sent 2 Defective Batteries With These 2 Phones
The reviews were clear on what I could expect w/these phones as they were being transitioned out by AT&T but I got 2 batteries that died out the same day 10 days after receipt. I contacted AT&T and am getting a replacement battery (they offered phone but the battery seemed the problem so far and I wasn't in the mood to wait). AT&T also screwed up the account set up though...

4.0 out of 5 stars A good and solid phone, December 31, 2009
This review is from: LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
My first impression about this phone is it is shiny, solid and heavy. Part of the phone brazzle and back cover is made of stainless steel, so it is about 1 ouce heavier than other plastic phone with the same size. It feels very well built, the fit and finish is very good. It has a lot of chrome on the edge, and the screen is shiny like a mirror, perfect for self obsessive gals or guys.

I have a tendency on dropping my phone if the shell is too slippery or smooth. I cannot imagine how I feel if I drop this phone to the floor.

This phone looks so nice, it is like it should be presented in a trendy art mesuem instead of being sold to the public.

The screen is quite large, and has 320x240 resolution. However, pictures look a little pixelated on the screen for some reason.

The slide operation of the keyboard is very smooth. I have no complain about it.

The speaker of the phone is very good. The same speaker is used for the ear piece as well as the speaker phone. The speaker is loud and clear when it is in speaker phone mode and playing music. The speaker is one of the best I heard on the phone.

The battery indicator has only 3 bars. Within 1 day of use I already see it drops a bar. The battery is rated at 900mAh 3.4Wh, which is not high at all.

The MicrosSD card slot is inside, so you have to take out the battery to swich the card.

The 3.2MP camera takes grainy picture at low light. However, the LED flash light is quite bright, good for probably 3 feet.

The dedicated back button is inside on the keyboard instead of around the D-pad. The software programmer sometimes does not program a back key on the left and right soft key, so in some screens you have to open the slide keyboard to go back to the previous screen.

The music play plays MP3 and WMA file formats. You need to buy an extra adaptor to use a head phone. My previous experience with such adaptor is never good. It get loosen very easily.

I cannot find FM radio on this phone.

I cannot play any MP4 podcast video on the phone. The phone recognize it is a video file, and knows the resoltuion, but it only plays the sound track of the video. The phone can only play video under a very low resolution limit. So do not expect this phone to replace your iPhone or Zune.

My biggest complain is the D-pad. LG should have made the D pad taller. There is room for that, but they put the AT&T logo there. The result is a very large left and right key, and very small up and down key. The up key is hard to press. When I press the down key, 20% of time either the left key or the right key is registered the click. This results in jumping to a totally different screen. This confuses me a lot. Usually when you are inside a function, you should not be able to go to another function unless you go back to the menu home. The LG program is trying to be too smart, so when you are inside a particular functionlairty, such as settings, if you presse left or right key, it will go to antoher functionality, such as the Mobile Video.

4.0 out of 5 stars great phone!!, June 10, 2010

This review is from: LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)

I got this phone over a month ago & will definitely be keeping it. I didnt have a great impression of LG from the two previous phones I had...the LG CU505 & the LG VU. The 1st was alright though my sister dropped it & I had volume problems thereafter. I barely used the LG Vu for a month before I returned it. It looked great but there were just too many things I didnt like about it.

I didnt have the 1st LG Shine to compare the two but I'm pretty satisfied with this phone. It looks great...has a shiny, classy, sleek look to it. Its solid, feels well built & has a nice finish. The screen is shiny...almost like a mirror. I wasn't looking for a very fancy phone but yet I wanted it to have more than just the basic features & this phone has that. I also wanted to avoid paying for a data plan. I liked the fact that LG improved on the alarm...I had to keep the phone on ringer at night for the alarm to go off with the other 2 phones. This phone has an added feature where I dont have to do that. The texting reminds me of gmail. It automatically attaches all ur sent & received texts to a person together making it easy to keep track....you dont have to search for texts. If you dont like the feature, u can also select the normal mode. It gives you an option to save your texts on the actual sim card which I haven't seen in any of my previous phones. It slides very smoothly. The speaker is good. It has GPS, IM, Email & Mobile Video for those who want to use the Internet.

I got this phone for free on Amazon (love it!) when it was $120 on the AT&T website...so shop around for your phones!

Now coming to the cons...the battery life isn't that great. I have to charge it after 2 days even if I dont use it much. The phone is a bit heavy as well. The keys & navigation are alright but LG could have made better use of the screen space. There is lots of room next to the left & right arrows & not enough for the up & down arrows. In some screens you have to actually open the phone to go back...I haven't had to do this much though. Also, the buttons are a bit hard to press & dont give easily.

But overall I am happy with this phone & I would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice phone & a little more!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Between BAD/OK phone, April 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I'm not really a big fan of a slide phone but after using it for about 2 weeks, I'm totally loving this phone...LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) It may lack some nice featues that touch phone may have.. but overall, this phone is great if you are planning to avoid those data plans that are very costy. What I didn't like about this phone is that the ringtone sizes are strictly limited to 300kb mp3 format which is about 24~30sec depending on quality of the ringtone/mp3 songs. It also has a micro sd slot which you can put up to 16gb for a nice mp3/ringtone/wallpaper/files etc! I guess only downside to this phone is that this phone is a bit on heavy side compare to other slide/flip/touch phones and battery life is terrible.. Barely lasts 1.5 days after full charge without lot of usage.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best value phone in the market, July 14, 2010
This review is from: LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
This is a very good phone in term of features although some of the features could have been better. First, the camera on this phone is still 2 MP just like the original Shine. I don't really do much of snap shots but I agree with some reviews that LG should at least put 3-4 MP camera on Shine 2 because the 2 MP, honestly, is almost obsolete. Second, this phone can shoot low resolution VDO. Again, I don't do much of VDO shooting so I don't expect to see 720p HD capability here, especially with the price of the phone. Therefore, it's still nice that this phone can shoot VDO even if it's only a low resolution. Third, the mobile web on this phone doesn't require a data plan. This is what I like most about this phone because I can always use internet in case of emergency to get some information while I'm not close to a computer. I know that every smartphones can do this now with extra monthly fee but to be able to get on the net with paying $30 extra is definitely a plus here. Forth, instead of the very annoying joystick they put on the original Shine, the GD710 comes with 4 ways arrows, OK button, menu and back buttons right in front of the front cover. I had the original Shine before and the joystick on that phone made me wanted to throw the phone away sometimes. Some reviews I've read said the 4 arrows look too traditional so lots of people thought this phone is not as good looking as the original. To me, I think it's perfect because the 4 arrows work a lot better. I actually gave Shine 2 four stars because of this. Fifth, this phone has bluetooth 2 instead of 1.2 that came with the original Shine. The connection is so much better and setting up with headset that support multipoint technology is so much easier. I have to carry 2 phones with me at all time so I'm always use a headset that support multipoint to connect to both phones at the same time. With the original Shine, I can't connect the phone as a secondary phone because the phone will not recognize the headset while the headset was connected to another phone. Unfortunately, my other phone doesn't recognize the headset if I set that phone as a secondary phone either. So, the way I connect both phones before was that I had to turn on bluetooth on the two phones simultaneously and pray that the Shine will get to the headset in a split second slower that the other phone so it'd work as a secondary phone with headset (apparently, the original Shine does support multipoint headset but it's always a hit or miss). Now, with Shine 2, I don't have that problem anymore. I can just connect the other phone first and then connect the Shine 2. The connection is a lot smoother without the hit or miss effect. I have been using this phone for a month and I think this is a very good phone, especially when you compare the features with the service plan. You'll get all the functions you can find on iPhone (and more in some cases) with out paying AT&T for premium data plan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone, September 9, 2010
This review is from: LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
OK, I don't want to describe the capabilities of this phone since you should have read another reviews talking about it. For those who have mentioned or are wondering the sturdiness of this phone I can tell you I already dropped it from my hands, and I am 6 feet tall, to my tile floor. The back cover flipped in the air but the telephone did not get any damage at all, I just put the cover back and not even one scratch in the body. Hard to believe but the phone is working perfectly. In the negative aspect I could say since it is so shiny it may be slippery so try to grab it carefully.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, August 9, 2010
This review is from: LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
This phone is a piece of junk. Everything about it feels like it ought to cost about $10. But if you get the service plan you pay hundreds for this phone. It comes with internet, and I gave it to my child without AT&T telling me that it was automatically turned on. He ran up $300 in charges. Then they decided to forgive the charges if I paid $10 a month for unlimited internet. I already had unlimited family text. Finally, it broke about 3-4 months after we got it. The insurance refused to pay, because it was under warranty. The warranty refused to pay because when the plastic gasket came out, my son broke it off (which voided the warranty). Now we have almost two years contract with no phone. Do not buy this phone. Save your money and get an iPhone. Costs a bit more, but you actually get something for your money.
