I bought a mini-itx case for my htpc and the manufacturer decided to change the case to require a slim drive. This one was priced well and is working fine.

I see a lot of reviews that are surprised their new Blu Ray drive will not play Blu Ray movies without purchasing additional software. Keep in mind that a software player is needed for Blu Ray support and some drives do not include the software (especially "OEM" drives). When I purchased this drive it did come with the cyberlink suite but this may not always be the case. Manufacturers of OEM drives like these do not always package software with their drives and may stop packaging it at any time.

Basically be prepared when buying a blu ray drive (for your computer) to have to purchase software separately, that way you aren't upset when it isn't included.

If you are building a computer be prepared to purchase a slim cable for your drive to adapt from a standard atx power supply (something else that can be easily overlooked).

The first Blu-ray drive I installed when I built the HTPC cost less than this unit but it turned out to be slow and noisy. Reviewers spoke welll of this unit and I'm glad that I followed their advice. It is a high-quality drive - even the tray seems strudy - and it's absolutely silent in operation.

I bought this as a replacement for the factory drive on my Samsung laptop.

Installation was a snap and replacing the bezel was very easy. It has read everything I have put into it so far. It does truly seem to be quieter than my old drive, but I am unable to do a true comparison.

If there are any issues, I'll post an update later.

+Eject button works, but YMMV as this is a common issue with many OEM slimline drives.
+Green access LED does not burn the eyes like some blue do.
OEM packaging, no software, no cables, no adapter, as expected. Be sure to have a slimline adapter and all necessary cables.
Detects as Blu-Ray, reads fine. No write test yet.
-Housing feels a little loose. The top aluminium plate (with device information stickers) covering the drive can rattle and shift about..
-Loudest component in the HTPC it's in (60mm fan, 7200rpm hd, stock intel cooler).

...then it would start making loud noises every time tray would open or close. And most of the time would not be able to playback any discs. Using it now as a test drive, albeit an expensive one.
