In January 2009 I purchased (through Amazon) form this seller a Phillips DVP3140 All Region Code Free DVD. After I had placed the order I was contacted by VCT and told that the item was no longer being made. The salesperson told me that the LG 271K-W1 was the "best" substitute for the one I had ordered. I increased my purchase from them for that item and put it away until I had the new television. I had checked to make sure the power worked etc... but didn't have a multi-system to hook it up too. Just got a nice LG HD TV and opened up the player to hook it up and guess what? The picture was black and white with sound but no color. After going through the book 3 times I contacted LG directly and was told by the technician that this model is for TUNISIA ONLY! He stated the TV would accept any input and the problem was the player was not for the States. When I contacted VCT to return it I was told too bad basically as their return policy is 30 days. I notice now they are still offering the Phillips I had originally ordered and was told "no longer made" that was much less expensive than this LEMON I am now stuck with - so if they contact you about your order and try to sell you something else don't trust them and make sure you check your goods the day they arrive! I would not recommend them to my worst enemy! I think LG knows where their products work and where they don't and this company needs to fess up.

I purchased this to download Babylon 5 VCR tapes to my laptop. It worked fine, using a KWorld DVD maker USB 2.0 for video capture (about $29.00 at various sites). Sound and video quality were fine. If you want to play PAL format tapes on NSTC TV, you'll also need a converter, but the KWorld (or other video capture units) obviate that requirement for downloading to a computer. The unit will also play VCR tapes in NTSC format, and dvd's in either PAL or NSTC format. Real bargain for the price!

This is a perfect machine for the purpose Its was designed for. The price unbeatable and the seller is reliable with good customer's relationship.
