Good buy on an uncomplicated phone,
By
This review is from: LG VX4500 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I've had mine for seven months, including extensive travel throughout the US, and overall I'm very happy.
Highs: - Excellent sound quality, clear and loud, useable even in very noisy environments. - Reasonably full featured phone WITH NO CAMERA!!! This was a huge selling point for me--anybody whose workplace bans them will definitely appreciate this. - Small external display works great--no need to flip it open to see caller ID, msg notification, etc. - Verizon signal coverage is generally outstanding. - Verizon pricing isn't the best at first glance, but it is quite straightforward, and well worth it for their outstanding network. Lows: - Manual is absolutely terrible, reads like a poor translation of a manual already badly written in a foriegn language. - What looks like a rocker switch for screen navigation really isn't--much to easy to activate wireless web/paid content services (which you still have an opportunity to cancel out of, but it ties up the phone for several seconds). - Proprietary LG charger interface is a pain. LG gives practically every model they make a different plug and cradle design, making them harder to find on the aftermarket. Tip: uses the same car and travel chargers as the VX6000.

A great phone, especially considering the price,

I've had this phone going on 6 months now and usually wait that long before reviewing any electronics product. Ergonomics and design flaws aren't immediately evident until after you've used the item for quite some time. I'm glad to note that the LG VX4500 is an outstanding product with virtually no problems that I've noticed.
The most fantastic thing about the phone is the outstanding battery life. I never actually measured the total talk time I get on one charge, but I usually go 2-3 days between charges and I make many calls in an average day. Also, there's NO CAMERA (a must for me -- if I wanted a camera, I'd buy a camera . . . not a phone), plenty of scheduling/alarm/calender features, and an amazingly loud and crisp speaker phone. The Driving Mode on the phone has become indispensible to me as I drive around a lot. You can say any name in your addressbook and the phone will dial it. There is no need to sit down and store the voice recording of the names so the phone understands who you mean. You can even say the phone number you want to dial and the phone does that and on incoming calls it'll say the name/number that's calling. There are a few minor drawbacks. First is the reception. The phone still gets a great signal considering the extensive verizon network out there, but it doesn't receive as well as some of the other verizon phones. A few times, I've been on the phone next to friends who're on verizon as well and I've had my call drop while theirs stayed connected. Even putting this cell phone next to another, you'll at times see this phone with 3/5 or 4/5 bars while other verizon phones will have 5/5 bars. Second, in Driving Mode the phone will only dial the first number associated with each name. An easy way to get around this is to just put in separate entries for someone's cell, office and home lines if you'll be calling them often using the Driving Mode. Overall, the phone is great. It fits well into the palm of your hand. It doesn't feel clunky or heavy and has nice rounded features so as to feel unnoticable when in your pocket. It's a great phone at a great price.

An easy to use, easy to read phone,

I've owned this phone for 7 months now and can say that it's the best mobile phone I've had. The speaker phone and voice dial features are invaluable in the car or if you want to conduct a conference call. I'm amazed on how well the voice dial feature can recognize names I've entered into my address book. The display is easy to read and the menus are easy to navigate. The big, clear buttons are ideal for larger hands. Verizon's network is more reliable than most, and this phone seems to get better reception than other LG and Motorola models I've owned in the past. Verizon's bills, however, are difficult to understand even though their pricing plans are simple. On the plus side, I have been extremely impressed with their helpful, earnest and courteous customer service reps over the phone, which is a rarity these days in the customer UNfocused business world.

Great phone!,

I would highly recommend this cell phone. In my experience LG cell phones have great sound quality. The conversations are crisp and not muffled like a Motorola I used to own. The ring tones are loud enough that you can hear them as well. Often I need to turn the volume down. This cell phone has a lot to offer for the price.

Screen Breaks,
By
This review is from: LG VX4500 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
This phone was fine for about month, when both screens began blanking out. I took it back to the store and was advised to simply remove the battery for two minutes, then the screen would come back. I did this and it seemed to work. After another month, the screen began blanking out more and more. Finally, after about 5 months of use, the screen would blank out continuously - maybe 15-20 times a day.
Several people I know have the same issue with this phone - it is clearly a defective model. The people in the Verizon store all know this too, since any one of them will tell you the battery trick to get the screen working again. Don't bother with this phone.

Nice phone, especially without the camera. I've had mine for about two months now. The best feature is the loud and clear signal. The ringer is loud, the voice is loud, and I sound clear to the other end of the line.
The "say something" feature really works well, and it doesn't waste your time learning how to pronounce "Mom," "Deli," "Job" or "Voicemail." It just knows all by itself out of the box. An annoying feature at first was that if you don't pay attention, it is easy to think you are saving numbers into the memory but you are not. I found that I need to pay close attention to how you are adding the number and to hit "Done" twice when I'm finished. Keys are large, good for big-fingered individuals like me. Outside LCD display tells you the time or, if you have a new message, how many there are. On the main inside display, you can adjust the font size so the names and numbers are easier to read. The battery charges quickly and doesn't seem to wear down as much as other phones I've had. Nice phone, excellent for medium to heavy users.

Dropped Calls are Commonplace,
By
This review is from: LG VX4500 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
This phone, and Verizon as a whole, drops calls at a pace that totally surprises me. I got the phone about 6 months ago and it was pretty good....then the calls started dropping.
These days i use the phone as an answering machine to prompt me to call on a land line. Unfortunately, I signed a hefty contract so I am stuck with Verizon and this crappy phone for the next two years. Look for a phone that is more reliable, and maybe even sytlish - something this phone and verizon as a whole fails at.

The worst piece of crap ever along with the Verizon customer service,

This review is from: LG VX4500 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I've had my this phone swapped 3 times. 2 of which were in the last 2 weeks. Verizon didn't want to replace the load of crap. The calls drop, the phone comes on and off at will, the screen goes black and the worst of all it stops ringing intermittently. This is just awful. Save your self a headache get a motorolla.

Many Dropped Calls,

Maybe 75% of my calls drop, to the point that I am considering paying full price for a new phone. I know it is not the coverage area as other phones for the same service provider do not drop in the same areas. I will never get another LG phone!

Great phone, if you've got one that works.,

This review is from: LG VX4500 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I have the VX 4500 and I too am on my fourth phone in a year. My first phone I used for about 6 months with no problem. I took in to Verizon for a software upgrade as recommended and something happened and my phone died while on their upgrade machine so I got a new one. Second phone worked for two months or so but would randomly power off which was a major problem as this is my only phone. Then I suddenly kept getting busy type signals whenever I tried to call out and would have to redial about 4 times before it would finally connect. Verizon swore it couldn't be a problem with their network so they replaced the phone out again. Third time I had the phone about a month and I was having random issues with the screen, it would go all black, go all blue, freeze and have a solid black bar running down the screen. Powering off and on the phone would correct the problem but it kept happening. So, now I'm on week 2 with phone number 4 and so far so good. I have 90 days left on my warranty so I'm praying if anything else strange happens it will do so before that warranty runs out. Each time I had a problem the tech at the Verizon store was very helpful. In fact he himself had the same phone so I asked him if he had any problems. Sure enough, he said he had to replace the phone 4 times the first month he had it but once he got a good one had no problems.
This is a great phone when it works, but apparently LG has some quality control issues they need to work out. Also a word of warning, if you've downloaded Ringtones, games or or anything else you've downloaded through "Get it Now" will not transfer to your new phone, only your contacts. I lost about $10 worth of ringtones and Verizon would not credit any of it back to allow to re-download them unless I was within 60 days of downloading them. That's not the phone's problem but Verizon's which irritated me. All in all, I love the phone when it works. It has far and away the best ability to receive a signal compared to previous phones I've owned and used on the Verizon network. I wish it was tri-mode but at the time I purchased this was the best option for me. Although the call quality has been great I'm not sure I'll purchase another LG phone because of the bugs. I've had Motorola phones for years and never had to replace one out. |
