Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Combining essential cellular functionality with fun extras such as a VGA camera, the LG VX5400 for Verizon Wireless is a slimmer update to the popular LG VX3450 thanks to the elimination of the stubby antenna. It boasts a one-touch speakerphone, speaker-independent voice command, and Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets. Other features include large-sized keys on the numeric keypad, dual displays, access to Verizon's VZ Navigator GPS service (with turn-by-turn directions), and downloadable games, ringtones, and wallpapers from Verizon's Get It Now over-air service. It operates on Verizon's 850/1900 CDMA and 850 AMPS frequencies.

It's all in the details: large, easy-to-press keys and a VGA camera.

The nicely compact VX5400 features dual screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and access to Verizon's Get It Now services for downloadable games and ringtones.
Verizon Service Options
This phone is compatible with Verizon's Get It Now wireless pay-per-download service, which features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service.

Getting on the Internet is easy using Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service.

With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps. And Verizon's Chaperone service lets you easily locate your loved ones from your Verizon Wireless phone or PC in real time. After defining a zone, such as an area designating a school or summer camp, you'll be sent an alert via text message when the Chaperone handset enters or leaves the zone.

Phone Features
The VX5400 features a traditional clamshell design with a 1.8-inch, 160 x 128-pixel internal color TFT LCD screen with support for 262K, as well as an external STN LCD with a 1-inch, 96 x 64-pixel resolution (for displaying incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, graphics, photos and more). The address book can store up to 1000 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses; each contact entry provides room for up to five numbers, two email addresses, and picture ID. Meanwhile, a speed dialing feature allows you to dial your 95 most accessed numbers virtually instantaneously. The phone comes with 18 built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert. More ringtones can be downloaded via Verizon's Get It Now service. Ringtones can be assigned to specific callers so you don't have to look at the phone to know who's calling, or you can match pictures with callers to identify them.

This phone provides Bluetooth version 1.1 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and object push for vCard and vCalendar. You can save up to 20 Bluetooth profiles. The VGA camera can capture images in three resolutions (640 x 480, 320 x 240, and 160 x 120 pixels), and it features a 2x zoom, white balance controls, a self-timer, night mode, variety of color effects, and self portrait capability with the clamshell flip closed. The phone also offers a built-in image editor, which enables you to zoom, rotate, and crop photos.

Other features include:

  • Call and messaging restrictions: restrict incoming or outgoing calls/messages to allow all, contacts only, or block all (except emergency calls)

  • GPS capable for E911 emergency locations
  • Hearing Aid Compatibility = M4/T4
  • PIM tools: Calculator, calendar, alarm clock, stopwatch, world clock, notepad, tip calculator

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Cell Phone, December 30, 2007
This review is from: LG VX5400 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I bought this to replace my Razor because of poor battery life, I have been amazed how great this phone really is. This phone is for those who can do without having a music player as a must have item.

The features I found important:

Outstanding voice clearity, good speaker phone, BT & text messaging, compact size, clear screen and the connectivity in hard to reach areas.

This is a great basic cell phone with all the stuff you really need, an ipod it ain't.

4.0 out of 5 stars vx5400...Great "CellPhone", November 23, 2007

This review is from: LG VX5400 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
This cellphone is exactly that...a cellphone. You will not be able to watch tv or play mp3's but you will be able to make/receive calls with great reception , clarity & battery life. It has BT for those in need & , for you who live in rural areas , it has AMPS connectivity. The contacts offer plenty of options as do the display , sounds & ringtone options. You are able to email yourself sounds & save/use them as ringtones.

It does not have EVDO & the camera is the 0.3 m/p type.

This model is everything one needs in a cellphone & abit more without all the useless bells & whistles.

5.0 out of 5 stars LG VX5400 - Best phone for calls, June 2, 2008
This review is from: LG VX5400 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
If you are a person into playing songs, memory cards, etc. etc., read no further.

If you just want to make calls, hear the ring, see the screen, hear the other party, have them hear you, have a signal if at all possible and a long battery life, this is the phone for you. The camera is quite nice, but if I want photos I use my camera.

The LG VX5400 is a tri-mode phone. What this means is that it not only receives digital signals, but also receives analog signals. There are fewer and fewer analog towers, but they persist in many beach areas and in remote locations. Just last year we were at a beach location and I was the only one to have a signal with my old tri-mode phone the entire week. Even with all their disabling tricks that my children hate so much, I use Verizon because they have better coverage - by far.

Since I am primarily interested in using my phone as a phone (including connecting to my computer) I will review each phone use separately.

The phone:

No protruding antenna so it slips in and out of pocket or purse very nicely.

I am 71 years old. My hearing is not quite what it used to be. My eyes are fine but my wife's are not quite what they used to be either. To make a long story short, if you can hear, you will hear this phone ring and hear the person talking to you, even if a trailer truck is going by. If you can see, you will be able to read the numbers on the screen.

Reception - Since I have used many phones (as phones) I can safely say this has the best transmission - reception of any phone I have ever used and probably the best reception of any phone on the market. Before writing this review I tested on my two "guaranteed disconnect" locations last night. No disconnect, only a brief pause in reception, very brief. I was made aware of this since we have a grocery store in our remote mountain location where reception in the back is just not possible - at least until now. No problem. I could have been outside in the parking lot.

Talk time - long, very long.

Features:

Yes, this phone will do about everything you might want even if you do texting, music, up and down loads etc. Look up the list on Verizon wireless. As usual, Verizon has pretty well figured out how to charge you for them. The most important feature for me is connecting and this phone is the best I've ever had.

Voice commands:

This phone will recognize a long (very long) list of voice commands, something I use all the time. You need to speak a little slowly for the phone to recognize what you want. For example, to make a call:

CALL ROLAND MOBILE, or

CALL MARY WORK

I primarily use the voice commands for calling. It does seem to learn your voice with the passage of time and gets better. It can be a bit frustrating at first. My wife has the same phone now and was a bit frustrated since it pronounces every name correctly except mine, constantly calling BOB ROM or RON. She may have done something initially to cause this or it may be a flaw. However it does get the right number all the time.

Emergency calling:

One of my entries is the name "emergency". When you say CALL EMERGENCY it calls 911 AND turns on your GPS location. I tried it out to make sure it worked, but hung up quickly after part of the first ring. Too late. My GPS location was on and 911 immediately called me back. I did apologize and explain and the lady was very nice and understanding. But, know that it works.

Menus:

The menus are mostly intuitive and easy to use. The appropriate prompts seem to appear at the right time.
