Reliable and Durable,
By RPP (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: LG VX6000 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
This phone came free when I renewed my Verizon plan, and I have been very satisfied with it. This is my first flip phone, since I usually go for the more durable "candy-bar" phones, but at the time I got this one all of the candy-bar models that Verizon had available were fairly low-grade. So while I was a little skeptical of this, I have been very pleased with its performance.
PROS: + The ringer can be maxed out at an extremely loud volume. While I leave my phone on vibrate most of the time, my sister has the same phone and likes the loud ringer so that she doesn't miss calls when her phone is in her purse. + Easy interface for basic features; doing the basic programming is a snap. + Good camera. The camera is what you can expect from a phone, and you have to practice with it to take good shots. But, with practice, you can take pictures in the proper lighting that rival actual cameras. (To do so, I suggest setting the file size to the largest, then shrinking the photo on your computer using any photo editing program (MS Paint even works) to increase the resolution). + Battery. The battery holds a charge for a long time. CONS: - Battery. Battery gets very warm from extended use, which is kind of annoying. - Aesthetics. Phone is generally durable, but scratches very easily if dropped. - Vibrate feature. The phone could have done with a stronger vibrate; it's often hard to feel it if it's not pressed against your body (i.e., if you put it in a jacket pocket). - Size. This phone is fairly large. - Features. While the basic features are easy, the more advanced ones are impossible to figure out, since the instructions don't cover them and the CD Verizon gives you has even less information. Example: how to store an image in your "My Media" folder so that it doesn't take up room in your photo album. You do this by sending the picture to yourself, then saving the picture from the picture message- it'll appear in "My Media" under "images," and you can assign it to caller ID without taking up room in the gallery. You also may want to send the image to the web via the "upload" feature, then crop it and send it to your phone from the vzwpix.com site; the phone takes images that are larger than the screen for some reason, and when the phone displays images you snapped it crops the ends off, but when it receives an image from a picture message it compresses it- so sending yourself an image you took will end up in a distorted picture. This is certainly counter-intuitive and it would have been nice to receive instructions on how to do this instead of figuring it out by accident. OVERALL: I wouldn't pay the money Amazon charges for this phone. But if it comes free with your Verizon plan or you can get it cheaper, go for it- it does all the basic features easily and you can (eventually) figure out the advanced ones, which are cool once you get them running.

LG VX 6000 star performer,

Have owned this model over one year.
It is beautifully designed with TWO color displays...a large display when the phone is open and a narrow color display on cover when clam shell top is closed. All functions are intuitive and easy to learn....Manuel is well written and easy to use. Only limitation is that the number of voice activated numbers is too few...about nine...you should be able to buy this at a very favorable price as there is now a new version the VX6100.

Good phone, bad software,
This review is from: LG VX6000 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I just purchased this phone 8 days ago. The phone itself is great. I get a better signal with this phone than I did with my old LG VX10. I love the voice command and driving mode features--they allow me to talk on the phone without risking a car accident because I'm pressing buttons on the phone. The biggest downside is the software. As of the date of this review, the 6100 is on its second software version. However, one big problem remains in that version: the caller id feature does not work properly while roaming. Your phone may display "Call from: no ID" when receiving an incoming call. However, once you answer the phone, the caller ID information shows up. This only happens about 50% of the time: sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. I have been told by Verizon technicians that this problem will should be fixed soon in the next software release for the phone. I will be waiting for the new software to come out rather than exchanging the phone.

Mediocre phone, at best.,
This review is from: LG VX6000 Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I've had this phone for about 2 years and 8 months, and I got it as part of a new-phone-every-3-years deal. I honestly don't think my phone will last two more months.
Everytime I have dropped this phone, it has broken. Sometimes just a piece or button will fall off, and sometimes it completely comes apart and I have to spend 20 minutes reassembling it. Keep in mind, these are not falls from my apartment balcony, they are falls from my back pocket or my hand to the ground (3-5 feet drops). I have had to replace this phone TWICE. One time, it rained and the phone was in my pocket. That completely killed it. So technically, I have had THIS phone for 10 months, and it is falling apart- all of the side buttons are falling off and i have to hold the casing in place when the phone is flipped open. The camera quality is poor, and there is nothing special about this phone.

Nice phone, but only average reception.,

I like the phone's features in general, but I have to disagree with the other reviews regarding reception. My family has noticed an obvious loss of reception with all of our LG phones, since switching from our previous Kyocera phones. Locations at which we previously had solid reception, no longer have the necessary signal strength.

I HAVE HAD THIS PHONE FOR 2 YEARS NOW.
I ENJOY THE VERIZON WIRELESS SERVICE.IT IS A PRETTY DECENT PHONE. I AM DEBATING ON WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD UPGRADE TO THE LGVX-6100 OR JUST KEEP THE PHONE FOR ANOTHER YEAR. LGVX-6100 * STORES UP TO 499 CONTACTS * WEIGHS 3.88 oz. * UP TO 3 HOURS OF DIGITAL TALK TIME; UP TO 150 HOURS DIGITAL STANDBY TIME * SPEAKERPHONE LGVX-6000 * STORES UP TO 499 CONTACTS * WEIGHS 3.98 oz. * UP TO 2.5 HOURS OF DIGITAL TALK TIME; UP TO 110 HOURS OF DIGITAL STANDBY TIME * NO SPEAKERPHONE I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PHONE FOR PARENTS NEEDING TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THEIR NEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE ONLY THING IS I WISHED IT HAD SPEAKERPHONE. OVERALL IT IS A NICE PHONE ESPECIALLY FOR NEW CELL PHONE USERS.

A very good phone,

This phone is very good:
- holds a charge well - takes good pictures & uploads them over the air to the Verizon web site where I can get them - accesses the web without problems - has a color screen good for showing pictures to others (serves as my "brag book" for my baby son) No complaints and good reception. Also, a lot of snapshots I'd have missed otherwise!

This was my 5th or 6th cell phone over a 3 year time span due to me losing, washing in the wash, or just getting sick of any other phone. I had this phone for a year. I know computers therefore I basically knew all the features off the bat. I talk in the shower with this phone, I talk in the rain, I talk in the ocean, and it still isn't broken.
I eventually got sick of the phone so I decided to buy the v266 from Motorola and let me tell you, that phone was the biggest piece I have ever boughten. It can't even compare to LG. I have never had any problems with any of the previous LG phones I owned. Pros + the messaging service is great. + ringtones aren't annoying + basic + heavy duty Cons - battery life - 20 pic memory - standard charger This phone originall came with a big hunk charger which was just a pain to talk on while charging but I bought one for the bottom of my phone. My minutes on my cellphone bill are usually around 8800 and this phone is still like new. I love it. Although I have recently switched to Nextel and the i710, I would recommend this phone to anyone over the newer, more technical phones.

Once the end of July hits, I will have had this phone for 3 years. This is an excellent phone. This phone has lasted longer than my laptop, and I put it through hell. I love the external LCD, its interface is great, the sounds quality is good. I am going to have to upgrade sometime due to my technological needs increasing (I need a smartphone) and I'm going to miss this phone. I hope my future purchases will have the same durability that LG provided.

Allow me to list how poorly ive treated my phone...
Dropped it hundreds of times Left it in the snow for 5+hours Left it outside in the cold overnight, there was dew on it in the morning Dropped it off the ride "superman" at six flags theme park after all that..there was only a couple of nicks and scratches... right now im gonna upgrade my phone and i think im gonna get a new vx6000 over the razr also i bought a kit on eBay that allow me to make my own ringtones and put them on the phone...i currently have about 10 of my own (30 second) ringtones i love this phone (dispite the 20 pic. memory) |
