Plug & Play (View) on a PowerMac G4,
By
This review is from: LG W2600H 26-Inch Full HD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
This monitor works flawlessly when fed from the DVI-D connection on the back of the monitor to a Macintosh Computer(PM G4 2x1.25Ghz Mirror Doors) through the Mac's DVI-I port. Many lcd monitor specs show the Mac being connected via the VGA port, and I'm sure that would work, but the DVI connection works on this LG W2600H without any additional drivers or software downloads.
Pros: Eye-popping contrast and color after calibration. (Calibration is in the Systems Preference/Display area.) Plug & View convenience. Cons: You will need a $20-$30 cable to connect via DVI-D (Not Included) The Mac CPU and Monitor will not work as one for power on/off like an Apple monitor (ADC) did. Did I mention this monitor is huge, but the picture is great.

Bought 2 LG monitors: one for home, one for work,

I also bought an LG W2600 monitor from BestBuy (Aug.2008) and it worked fine, so week later bought another one for work, because i use my Mac Powerbook at both locations. Since then i noticed a slight defect: the LG W2600 is slightly brighter at the bottom of the screen than at the top. Oddly, i have read a review of the Samsung 26" and the person stated a similar defect: "color variation". Other than the slight brightness variation it is a sharp and good looking screen and i will probably keep using them.

Great Monitor for the Price,

I was very impressed with the quality of the monitor considering the price. Yes as others have commented, the menu items on the front of the monitor cannnot be seen well and are difficult to use, but right out of the box the monitor worked perfectly. However, the CD that was included with the purchase did not work and I had to go online to LG to obtain the drivers for the monitor as well as the manual. I was happy with the purchase and the color and contrast were very good without any adjustments. I consider this a good buy for me.

I have been using this monitor for well over 2 years. It was on sale and I bought it for under $300 on clearance. I had to return the 1st one due to some forgotten defect and the second I kept and am still using. It has a strange color cast that I cannot get rid of without calibration and even after calibration it is not up to snuff. It is not possible to produce a truly neutral gray no matter how I try. The capacitive buttons are near impossible for me to see with out bright lighting even then, squinting is required. The blue power light is very annoying, especially at night. If you are editing video or photographs, its inaccuracy will annoy you to no end. I kept it because it was big and was really inexpensive, it is a totally mundane almost below average monitor and my old Dell 2005FWP puts it to shame. Not recommended for any serious user.

LG Forever,

I purchased my LG W2600H from Best Buy, using a 10% off coupon downloaded off the web, after researching large monitors long and hard. The first monitor I recieved had a manufacturing defect along the edge of the screen, about a 1/4 in high and a 1/2 in wide in the shape of a half moon, I bought it online but exchanged it at the store, she did but not without looking at me with the, I doubt it was a manufacturing defect look. The second one has worked flawlessly for almost 2 years. My monitor has NO DEAD PIXELS, and the contrast and uniformity are excellent, i've stared at it about 35 hours a week for almost 2 years and have an eye for detail, but am unable to discern any display flaws whatsoever. I did go from a 7600GS 256mb card to a 9500GS 1gig card, while owning this monitor, and saw an increase in clarity and vividness. So to take full advantage of the quality of this monitor I would suggest a good and powerful video card.
On paper this monitor gave me the best specs for the least amount of money, the most bang for the buck, and I haven't been disappointed. Along with being functionally superior to the competition, it's the best looking monitor, if not attractive. As far as the touch sensitive display buttons go, I think LG deserves an A+. They are also, attractive and precise, and I've had no problem with them whatsoever. It took me a few brief minutes to master their function, and appreciate their beauty. For those of you that cannot read the fine print, I would suggest a MAGLIGHT PENLIGHT for your desk as an aid to all fine print. Display buttons are something that see very limited use, and should be designed to, Not Stick Out, like the Old Fashioned Mechanical Clunky Buttons. The On / Off button is very soft also, and is never a distraction. As far as complaining, it doesn't come with a DVI cable, LG got it right again. The 6ft cable, it would have came with, would have went straight to my pc collection. I purchased a 10ft high grade DVI cable off eBay for about $12. All in all, I would say LG has made a superior product, but the price might have been a little high, due to buying one at its initial release. I have found absolutley nothing wrong with this product and will probably buy LG monitors for life. For those of you that have complained about minor inconveniences, Talk About Lack of Technical Prowess, give me a break, nobody is that inept, but in this case i could be wrong. Anybody with any computer savvy looks at computers, and monitors, all the time, and I am totally satisfied, if not happy with my purchase and would highly recommend LG monitors, for the way they function and their appearance, as well as their price.

Looks nice, but runs like crap...,

This review is from: LG W2600H 26-Inch Full HD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
I bought one of these monitors from Best Buy and had to return it because not only was the screen scratched and cracked, it was missing the damned cables it was supposed to come with. Keep in mind, this was not an open box sale, it was brand new. So after I lug it back to the store, get a replacement, and plug it in, the display looked horrible. The colors were all totally wrong, and no amount of color correction could help it at all. There was even a hot corner on the upper left side, and everything in that region was a dark shade of magenta.
I gave up on LG being able to make anything properly and went with what I should have in the first place, the Samsung Syncmaster 2693HM. Not only are the colors correct (or as close as we can expect from an LCD monitor), but the picture is crisp and all the text is razor sharp. So do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this crappy monitor, go with a better model, either Samsung, Dell, or Gateway. |
