    Updated review:
I love this washer! I did a lot of research on front loaders and chose this model over other LG's because it had the features I wanted and was significantly lower in price than similar models. So far I'm very pleased with this machine, which was rated a CR best buy. It was on sale at a local large chain home improvement store, and it qualified for our state's highest Energy Star rebate. We've had none of the problems that I had read about front loaders in the past--no excessive vibration on a wood frame floor, no water hammer noise, no odor, and the low water usage works fine. This machine has the features of similar models (other than the steam washers) except for the internal water heater/sanitize cycle, which I didn't need. It is very easy to use, easy to add options such as extra water or an additional rinse, and easy to change the wash/rinse temps, soil level, spin speed, etc. of the pre-set cycles. It has a stain cycle which I've not needed to use yet. You can also customize a cycle with your favorite options and save it. It holds a lot of clothes, gets them very clean, and is quiet. I thought our clothes were clean with the old washer, but this one cleans better, removing lots of what I had thought were permanent stains. I have yet to load it to capacity; our loads usually show only 2 of 4 possible bars. A queen blanket and lightweight coverlet and a couple of bath towels also filled it only about halfway. The cycles run longer than my old top loader, as all front loaders do. Most cycles are running between 53-73 minutes. (In my original review I had erroneously said 113 minutes; it was actually 1 hour 13 minutes, or 73 minutes.) It also has a quick wash cycle for lightly soiled items. Uses very little HE detergent and a tiny amount of bleach (I use 1 tablespoon of Charlie's Soap powdered detergent) because it uses so little water. We would recommend this washer to anyone. The matching gas dryer works very well, too. I wanted the pedestals but didn't want to pay the outrageous price for them. I've found that sitting on a stepstool or chair to unload the machines works fine for me, so I don't miss the pedestals.
Although this washer has a hot water wash option, and hot water does go into the machine, there is such a small amount of water circulating through room temperature clothes and a huge room temperature steel tub that the water cools off to just warm almost immediately. I don't know if the models with internal heaters keep it hot or not. But the machine cleans very well anyway, so this isn't a problem for me.

Some added info- For those who have had the odor/mildew problems in a front loader: In researching front loaders, the odor issues so common a few years ago were often caused by detergent and fabric softener residues that build up in the outer tub. Bleach kills bacteria but does not dissolve these residues. To prevent this, use only about half the recommended amount of HE detergent, or use a HE detergent that doesn't have any additives or residues to accumulate. (The "green" detergents such as Charlie's Soap are the ones that usually don't have any residues.) Also, don't use liquid fabric softener as it leaves lots of residue in clothes and the washer. We've had absolutely no problem in this machine.

I installed an LG wm2050cw, it is quiet and washes well. There was a software upgrade LG has done to models that now ship. I would prefer a longer spin cycle option, as I sometimes manually run an extra spin to really dry my clothes more, but it has the ability to do it. I bought it for under six hundred with tax and install, from a local "orange" big box store. Santa fe, NM also offered a four hundred eighty dollar credit, so it cost me in the end about one hundred sheets of paper. I also bought a basic GE gas dryer, and put both on pedestals I bought at an online auction site. With a little creativity it all worked out great.

The only downside is the door swings out a ways when you leave it open to dry the tub, some other models I looked at the door was stiffer and stayed where you put it. But the overall quality compared to the other models and the long 10 year warranty on the motor, lifetime tub, outweighed the inconvience. I also attach a bungee cord to the pedestal and it keeps the door tight when left open. If you obsessed with looks you may not like this. I like the functionality of it, even the delivery man said he never picks up LG washers for defects, but often picks up other higher rated well known brands, no regrets!

I guess though, you could always in anything get a lemon, but so far I have a peachy set up.

One last thing I went through customer service to confirm my serial number had the software upgrade, the call started overseas, collected some info, transfered me to someone in the states, checked my serial number, confirmed update, total call time under ten minutes. I did not need service, but they seemed fast and informed.

Overall, I am thrilled about this purchase. It was between this washer and a similar Samsung model. This LG model provided more options for the same cost so we went with this one.

I love the front load system - no middle bar means less wear and tear on my clothes. I love that it is very efficient with both electrical and water usage. I love the trap door on the bottom left that captures pocket items instead of having them get stuck inside the washing drum. I really love the upper left pull out drawer that allows me to place the detergent (detergent marked HE - high efficiency - ONLY, otherwise your washer will have too much soap and foam might leak), fabric softner and bleach all at the same time and the machine disperses accordingly.

Thankfully, the delivery man took the time to explain how the machine worked. I need to turn the power button on for each usage, set the dial to automatic settings (the usual) or use the manual over ride for more custom settings (extra rinse, pre-wash, extra spin). My first wash load was interesting. I stuffed it full of clothes, watched the machine spin it a few times before automatically adjusting its settings to match the load of clothes inside. It took a while for the wash cycle to get all of the clothes wet. I was a little worried about the lack of total submersion into water like my old machine but the finished product appeared and smelled clean. The machine tells you how long it will take to wash each load (times vary according to size and features chosen) and it plays a short melody when it is finished. The machine is very quiet. I cannot hear it when I leave the room.

With all these great features why only 4 stars? I do have one slight problem with the way this washer leaves a little water behind in the bleach and fabric softner trays. This might not bother anyone else but I find myself using paper towels to make these compartments dry to prevent stagnant water. Customer service advised that this is a by product of having the automatic dispenser compartments and the even light usage of the washer would prevent a water stagnation issue.
