I LOVE this washing machine. Seriously. I finally dumped an 18-year-old noisy top-loader for this sleek new digital wonder and couldn't be happier. To address some of the complaints I've read on this model, first, you don't have to clean any filter daily or after every load. There IS a water pump filter on the lower left corner of the machine which is LG recommends you clean monthly, depending on use. I've checked the filter twice in a month and haven't seen any build up yet. Second, the machine does its best to balance an awkward load of heavy wet items in the spin cycle. If it starts to spin and is too off-balance, it will give up, try to readjust the items with some low-speed spins, and try again. The machine WILL vibrate some as it first starts spinning and the clothes are heavy with water. As the clothes start to lose their water, the spin will even out and become nearly vibration free. Regardless, it is MUCH quieter than my old top-loader.

I actually checked the noise level with a dB meter and compared them to what my old machine used to put out. My old "Lady Kenmore" top-loader would top-out at about 80 dBs, usually during the wash and spin cycles. The LG WM2250C tops-out at 50 dB, while injecting water into the wash drum, or during the first part of an awkwardly balanced spin cycle. As a reference, 50 dB is about the same noise level you'd get in a busy park or face-to-face conversation with someone. I also installed two "water hammer" arrestors on the water inlets for about $15 total from your local hardware store which "cushion" the water column in your pipes as the fast acting valves used in these types of clothes washers inject water into the wash drum.

Beware looking at reviews on LG.com. They rejected this review, would not post it, and only accept 4 to 5 star, glowing reviews. I've had my LG washer 5 months. This is my first front load machine so I don't know if all machines are like this, but every few washes you're supposed to drain excess water out of a drain plug. If you forget, you'll get a code when enough water is built up and the machine won't run, which happened to me when I set it, walked upstairs and went back expecting to take the wash out only to find out it hadn't been washing. You need to unscrew this plastic plug out of a small rubber hose and I can see over time this will be the first thing that goes on the machine from constantly manipulating it in and out. During the initial fill of water, there is a knocking of pipes and although we got 2 water arresters, one on the pipes from the furnace and one behind the washer, there is still a knocking sound for several minutes and I worry what this is doing long-term to my pipes. I've seen this knocking issue in other reviews. You also need to wipe down the rubber gasket after each wash to prevent mold and mildew; not a big deal but combined with having to drain this tube, I would consider this a high maintenance machine. Would rather just "set it and forget it" like the old-fashioned washers and not a bunch of electronic gizmos. The clothes are not wringing wet when they come out and I have two points of view on that. Is it because the spin cycle is so good it wrings the water out, or is it because not enough water is going in during the cycle to adequately clean the clothes? I can't complain about the cleanliness though. It does a good job of cleaning. It replaced a Cabrio that lasted only 6 years so hopefully I get more mileage out of this one or I'll go back to the old fill-the-tub kind. Would I recommend it? Only if you know up front the high maintenance aspect and can deal with that.

We've had this washer for a year now and I thought I would give our feedback for those who are thinking of purchasing this washing machine.

This is the first front loading washer we've had and decided to get one because we really wanted a machine that conserved water and could do most of the work for us. We previously had a washer that was pretty old, could only wash on the delicate cycle (it was pretty broken), so we did a lot of research before deciding on one that would last us for a while.

From day one I've loved this washer. I was hesitant of buying a Korean appliance such as this because if we did have major problems I knew it might take a while to fix. So far, we have had no problems. The guys who installed it made sure to note that they really like the direct drive motors as you don't have a belt to worry about wearing down or getting out of whack, and the motor itself is covered for 10 years by LG themselves.

My favorite part is that it has a load sensor so I don't have to guess what size my load is. I know choosing such an option isn't too big of hassle, but when you have a screaming baby in one arm and a load of poop stained clothes in the other, those few seconds of just pressing 1 button makes it a big help.

Another option that a lot of washers have now are various water temperature settings. I mostly use cold and the eco warm water conservation option where it only adds enough hot water to help lift stains. There's tap cold, which uses just tap water, and then their special coldwash option which I haven't had the need to use. There's also a hot option which works wonders.
