5.0 out of 5 stars Solved the vibration and noise problem, August 29, 2006
We really like this LG washer and dryer set. It is quiet, and super easy to use. They look great too in the blue color. Clothes come out much cleaner than before. We like how there are so many different washer and dryer settings to use in special circumstances. The washer spins out the clothes much dryer than conventional washers, so your dryer does not need to take as long to dry the clothes, saving energy and money. The washer uses very little water so you save here also. The washer is more gentle on your clothes too - so they last longer and look better.

This is by far the best washer and dryer we have every owned. Worth every penny we spent on them.

It seems like all front loading washers can have vibration problems if they are not placed on a REAL solid floor and perfectly level. I've read many complaints regarding this problem with all of the major brands (Whirlpool, GE, LG, Sears Kenmore and more).

Here's what we did to solve the noise and vibration problem. I can't take credit for this solution as we read this solution in another review and tried it and it worked for us. I am VERY grateful I found the solution on the Internet.

We have a weak floor that vibrated & the washer on spin cycle would travel around the floor due to the vibration. Leveling the washer was NOT enough to stop this problem. We had a local lumberyard cut us three 1"x12" solid oak boards to place on the floor as a solid base for our washer and dryer. We also put a stall mat on top of these boards. A stall mat comes in 4'x6' dimensions and is ¾ inches thick. It's made of an extremely dense rubber material (one of these mats will weigh 100 pounds or more). The stall mats are available anywhere farm materials are sold. Sometimes they are called cow mats, or horse mats or even barn mats. They are made to cushion the floor for a horse or cow (and can withstand the wear and tear of 1400+ pounds of animal and their hooves and waste each day so they're VERY durable). I bought ours for less than $40 so it's NOT an expensive solution. You can cut the mat to size with a common utility knife. Just lift the edge of the mat and cut the proper width. It's not difficult.

Once the washer and dryer are placed on this solid base, you won't have ANY problems with vibration or noise. Even an apartment installation would be adequate to dampen vibration to those below the apartment. It works great. The base looks professional too if you make it to the exact size of the washer/dryer combo.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good start, but bad follow up by LG customer service / tech help, January 9, 2008
I purchased this washer (and matching dryer) at the end of October 2007. It's definitely a beautiful machine. A week and a half before Christmas 2007 the washer failed. I had to drain the water out of the drum... a long slow process.

LG customer service recommended a tech repair company and they came to my home the day after Christmas and had to order "new computer brains" directly from the LG factory. The parts came and today the tech team installed them, but the washer still is not working and the washer computer shows the exact same computer error message as before the attempt to fix it.

My Tech repairman then called LG's Tech repair team and LG's recommendation... reorder the same parts that we just replaced and try again. I really doubt this attempt to fix it will work and we are probably delaying the inevitable... that they need to replace the machine. (what are the chances that the same parts cause the same problem twice?)

This weekend it will be almost a month since my washer worked. I suspect it will be another week and a half before I receive new parts from LG to try and fix the problem again. My worry is that the new parts won't work and that I'll have to go through a warranty process to obtain a replacement washer. I'm wondering now how long this whole process will take.

So far, "Life's not Good". I expected a lot more from this washer and LG customer/tech assistance especially given what we paid. I'll update when I have more info.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, September 15, 2006

I received my new washer about 2 weeks ago and I love it! The energy efficiency and low water use are fantastic. It really does do a fantastic job cleaning with so little water and huge capacity - its amazing! Everything comes out so much dryer and cleaner. LG delivers as promised. Costco brand has a top rated HE detergent that keeps that cost down as well. The buttons, bells and whistles are fun too. I find myself looking for things to wash (sad isn't it)!I've tested several different types of wash/cycles. The wool/handwash, sanatize, steamfresh and Cotton cycles do not disapoint. So far I give it a A+++ I was hesitant to spend the extra it cost to have the latest- I'm a believer now- worth it to have great performance and still be green about it. I can't wait till the new dryer model comes out - I will stack it right on top!

***Question for other owners- Do you put your clorox 2 with the detergent or in the bleach compartment? I like to use calgon as well which doesn't leave much room for actual detergent.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 years on my LG front loader and ZERO problems!, April 22, 2008
This review is for an earlier LG front load washer, I've had mine 5 years now with no trouble at all.
My washer looks just like the one shown but lacks the Steam option. I've been very happy with the
LG, it spins at high speed drying everything to the point my dryer hardly has to work 15-20 mins.
for most items, towels take longer. One point I'd like to make, I leave the washer door open after a
wash, this allows it to dry out, if you close the door with out letting it dry your likely to get mildew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Washer, January 3, 2008
By
Josh J. Mccally (Northern Virginia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I recently purchased the LG Tromm and love it. It is quite, compact, and washes my clothes much better then my old top loader. I will admit though that the old one, was truly old and on its last leg. I do not know what else to say other than I am truly satisfied with this washer. It is a bit pricey but if you do research you will find that it will save you money over the lifetime of the washer vs that of a non energy star rated model.

If anyone out there has vibration issues as mentioned elsewhere then look at the back of your washer. Do you see four bolts with rubber bushings? If so remove read the installation manual. The installation manual will tell you to remove these as they are only there for shipping reasons. There should be small white plastic caps next to the botls to cover th wholes once removed. Another indicator that there are issues is if you look at the back of the washer while it is spinning. Does the back shake violentlty? If so then these bolts are in fact still on and need to be removed.

Why do I know this, becuase for the first two loads it shook super violent and I reread the user manual. Like an idiot I skipped that part and once removed it spun like a dream with absolutly no vibration whatsoever.

So, that being said take those shaking reviews with a grain of salt. They may have just installed it improperly which cuases vilaent shaking and also breakage.

Cheers,

-j
