1.0 out of 5 stars Unhappy!!!!
We bought this washer/dryer set alittle over a year ago. The digitial display/control board in the washer already died. It's a $250.00 part to replace, plus whatever the technician charges to install.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be happier with this washer, January 28, 2010
This review is from: LG Washer Front Control, 4.2 Cu Ft - Red
Our old washing machine broke a couple of months ago; and, even though we could have fixed it, we decided it was time to go with a new front loader instead. The main reason we wanted front loading machines was because of the space savings when stacked. After a week of research, we settled on either this LG model or the comparable Samsung, based on reading pretty much every review we could find - we settled on the LG because of price.

Aside from the fact that these are extremely heavy compared to our old top loaders, the installation was fairly straight forward. The water hoses are a couple of feet longer than a typical washer hose (even other front loaders), which was great for us since we ended up stacking them a few feet from the water inputs. They are also very easy to setup and use.

At first we were a bit nervous about the height of the machines when stacked, but those fears were completely unfounded. I'm 5'9" and I can access both the washer and dryer with ease. The washer tub is actually tilted upward to make it easier to access when it's sitting on the floor instead of a stand. As a quick reference, if you're worried about the height, the bottom of the dryer opening sits at 54" when stacked, the center of the dryer control knob sits at 76", and the top of the dryer is at 79".

Aside from the obvious space savings, here are the things we've really liked about this washer:
1) It runs very quietly with no noticeable vibration. I was worried about this after reading reviews for other front loaders, but it hasn't been a problem at all - even with both the washer & dryer stacked and running at the same time.
2) It gets our clothes at least as clean as our old washer ever did; but it uses a lot less water to do it. (It's supposed to be easier on the clothes too, but I have no way to verify that.)
3) The controls are intuitive and easy to use.
4) We can fit an amazing amount in each load. Our old washer was a high capacity top loader, but this thing can probably clean almost twice as many clothes in each load. It is especially nice when it comes time to clean bedding that didn't even fit in the old washer.
5) I love the load sense feature. This is one of the things you should read the manual to figure out how to use; but it is definitely worth the effort. Basically, it tells you how much detergent you need to add in order to get the clothes clean for that particular load - I use it to tell me when the load is full by just adding clothes until it says I need the full amount of deterget:). It really does eliminate a lot of guess-work.

As usual, there are some things I wish I could change:
1) You can't use powder detergent with liquid bleach in the same load. You need to have either powder or liquid for both.
2) The controls don't remember settings, which can be a bit irritating since we use the same settings 95% of the time. Luckily they are easy to set, but you do need to reprogram it every time you turn it on.
3) The washer door only opens one way (the hinge is on the left), which is great if that's the way you need it to open. In our case, it opened the wrong way so we had to rearrange the room a bit. Fortunately, the long hoses made it possible to rearrange everything without a lot of extra effort or expense.

Another thing I had read about the front loaders was that the door needs to be left open between loads. I thought this would be a pain, but it really hasn't been a big deal at all. The manual doesn't actually recommend doing that; but says to periodically run a tub clean cycle (I think it says to do it every month) to eliminate any odor. I figure I'll leave the door open as well just to be safe.

Overall we are extremely pleased with these. I guess time will tell if they hold up as well as our old top loader did, but so far I'm pretty confident that they will. I highly recommend these if you're looking for a new washer and dryer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great washer I love it, December 6, 2010

It was time to change our old top loader and I wasn't sure if I wanted a top loader or a front loader,I had a top loader but I'm used to the front loader from Denmark so I went out to look at different machines. I really like the front loader as you don't have to balance the clothes as much as with a top loader but I like the idea that you could ad a sock or so if you found it just as you closed the washer with a top loader, but with this front loader you can stop the machine and ad clothes after you start it, so no problem there. We are a family of 4 and it works just fine for our family
Positive about the machine:
it can take really big loads of clothes
it cleans the clothes well
it use small amount of water
it is quiet even when it spins the clothes
you can set a bell so you know when it is done
it spins the clothes well and you can set it for an extra spin cycle if you wish
you can add clothes even when you have started the machine

negative
I don't have anything really bad to say about the machine
it is a good idea to keep it open or it will have a smell but that is no problem I just keep it open
be careful who you order it from, I ordered one for our daughter from a company through Amazon and it was broken when it came, they tell me they will fix it, I hope so because so far everything else we have ordered from Amazon has been in order
you have to reset the program every time you start the machine I think that is just fine then I'm sure I get the right program even though I almost always use the same program.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this washing machine, January 6, 2011

It is great. The clothes are so close to dry when they come out it's almost like they were never wet at all. It has a huge tub. I got at least 10 pairs of pants in with a lot of room left over for more but I didnt want to crowd the stuff or it wouldnt come clean. It has a "brain" so it doesn't waste water. if you only put a small load in it measures it so it only uses what is needed. It is remarkably quiet and it play's a nice " okarina tune from Zelda" or at least it reminds me of Zelda. The point is it's a great machine and well worth the money. It has a 10 year warrenty. I chose the "Wild Cherry Red" one. I wish more appliance manufacturers would make more colors to choose from. I am very sick of all white or black or crome but the red goes well with my mix/mash decor. What ever color you choose make sure it's this washing machine inside it, you won't be disapointed with it. I have to say I will be 53 on the 19th of this month and this is the absolute best washing machine I have ever owned and I have had a few of them over the years. AND of course it is very energy efficient, costing about $15.00 a year to run. Very easy on the water etc. Buy it at Amazon.com and you get it delivered to your door because it weights about 150 lbs. the man had to park at the end of my block and brought it down in a big dolly type thing but he brought it right into the kitchen and put it where it needed to be to unpack it and set it up, which my husband and son did in about 90 minutes because they took their time and read the instructions. BUY this one if you are looking for something to last you a long time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome washer, February 7, 2011

I got my washer on sale, and was so happy for the great deal that I got on it (50% off). The washer is great, and high efficiency, so there are no complaints there. It does a great job of getting my clothes fresh and clean. It also runs nice and quiet (though I have heard that HE washers are a bit louder when they are on the second floor or on top of a wood sub floor- I have concrete slab). I have also heard that they tend to grow mildew if you don't dry them out- I have not had this problem as I leave the washer door and soap door open when the wash cycle is complete. The only complaint that I have is that these washers take longer for a wash cycle than older washers. This washer takes approximately 1 hour to do a load that would usually take 30-40 minutes on other washers. This is obviously not a huge deal and it is something I can live with, but it is still some thing to be aware of!
Also, as other people have said- this washer plays a song when done!

1.0 out of 5 stars wont last long, June 16, 2011
This review is from: LG Washer Front Control, 4.2 Cu Ft - Red
I have had the washer for 18 months. It has been fine up to the last month when it started to get loud on the spin cycles. LG came to look at it and said it needs inner and outer tub and bearings. LG will not repair it at their expense and the cost to fix it is $600.00.
The machine gets only light use, it is not an abused machine. Obviuosly they are not designed to hold up after the warranty expires.
Don't buy this made in korea piece of junk!

2.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money!, July 27, 2010
This review is from: LG Washer Front Control, 4.2 Cu Ft - Red
I really wanted a sleek new look for a washer. Thought it would be cool to see my clothes tumble in front of my eyes...good on water! After about three loads, it started smelling of mildew. I had to wipe the inside lip with bleach on a rag every time I was done. Say what? I spent how much money to have to do this each time I use it? What do I do with the rag? Ew! Then, even after doing this, when I'd open it back up to do another load a day or two later, it wreaked of mildew! I'd pull my towels out of the dryer and they stunk of mildew from the washer. The detergent/softener/bleach dispensers are clumsily located so that you have to contort yourself to get it in. Half the time the bleach dispenser doesn't work at all and then dispenses it in the next load!!! Ruined clothes or towels! Sometimes the laundry dispenser won't work either. I've had to run the same load countless times.

If I can sell mine on Ebay, I will buy the old standbys again and be grateful to get them back.

1.0 out of 5 stars PRETTY TO LOOK AT ONLY!, October 16, 2010
This review is from: LG Washer Front Control, 4.2 Cu Ft - Red
My very first use and the washer stopped 3 times because out of balance. It cannot handle a load towels without making clanking noises and what sounds like machine parts grinding. And the dryer advertises it has a sensor to detect dampness and my clothes were still damp when the dryer sounded it's pretty music to indicate it was complete. do not waste your time or money. I'm returning mine. Pretty to look at only!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unending Balance Problems, July 21, 2011
This review is from: LG Washer Front Control, 4.2 Cu Ft - Red
My LG WM2701H is about 18 mos old and has unending balance problems. On any load where there is any weight it cannot spin out and takes forever for it to give up w a UE message. The most recent service tech told me I needed new shock absorbers ... $250 later I still have the problem. This machine has been problematic from the beginning. Have never been able to get it to consistently drain the bleach cup. Also -- seems a poor design to retain a lot of water in the soap draw at the cycle end which could cause mold/mildew. If you are insane enough to still buy one of these after reading this review, get the extended warranty. You will need it. (ps.. the matching dryer rips clothes if the lint trap isn't perfectly flush).
