Book Description

Mosiman is an Edgar and Stoker Nominated author of more than 50 books.

"I highly recommend this set too everyone who enjoys suspense and horror." JENN
"In this little collection, the reader gets a real sense of Billie Sue
Mosiman's ability to draw them in with her descriptive ability. It is
not so much the scenery that she paints as it is the characters. Places
are mentioned, but the story could be in your own back yard." T.W.Brown, Reviewer

LIFE NEAR THE BONE is a trilogy of the author's previously published horror stories and the first chapters of her new novel, BANISHED.

LIFE NEAR THE BONE, the story, from the anthology PREDATORS, is about a literate man who takes Thoreau's WALDEN to heart. He not only simplifies his life--he takes it to the bone.

In ANTIDOTE a vampire infected with a man-made killing disease is looking for a cure. He finds it in a most unexpected place.

In ROSA TWO-COINS a New Orleans' flower peddler has more on her agenda than just getting two coins for her bouquets. She might be the Reaper in disguise. Poor Bartholomew, needing a stroke of luck, makes a mistake by making a deal with the devil.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good sample of an exceptional writer's work. June 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
In this little collection, the reader gets a real sense of Billie Sue Mosiman's ability to draw them in with her descriptive ability. It is not so much the scenery that she paints as it is the characters. Places are mentioned, but the story could be in your own back yard. I was fortunate to receive a review copy from the author.

"Life Near The Bone" illustrates the psyche of obsessiveness and the fragile state of the human mind. The central character sees his actions as absolutely rational, but viewed from the is blatant madness.

"Antidote" plays to the gullible mind seeking a cure. The message is simple: once you run out of viable options, the snake oil becomes an easier choice. Perhaps it is better to accept fate instead of constantly fight it. This story was absolute magic to give so much in so few words.

"Rosa Two-Coins" is a story that has been told before in countless fables. It is a cautionary tale about greed and Mosiman dons the cap of Aesop with ease.

Overall this is a nice sample for those not familiar with Ms. Mosiman's work. It could use a little polish as the errors that did slip by were actually difficult to miss, but they were few enough to not be a hindrance.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Fantastic Stories January 1, 2013
By Jenn
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great set of 3 short stories. They are a quick read but you don't feel cheated in any way because the details are there. In the first story, Life Near the Bone, You find out what happens when a man takes philosophy too far and looses his mind.

In the next story, Antidote, you get a look into a very unique vampire story and what takes place in a vampire world where it is kill or be killed.

And finally in Rosa Two-Cents a man finds out what happens when you leave not only a debt but a promise un-paid.

This is only my take on the stories, you will have to read it yourself to see if you agree. I highly recommend this set too everyone who enjoys suspense and horror.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 fantastic stories August 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This would be a brilliant book to start you off on Billie Sue Mosiman.
3 stories in differing lengths.

The first is Antidote: a medium length novella; a wonderful description of a world taken over by vampires, just to late too realise they have killed all the "food" off! but not without unleashing an "antidote! so this is a little tale of one vampire who has a journey to go on... in search of the cure to the antidote!! what a sad but beautiful ending.

The second story is Rosa Two-coins: a short story; some missing letters and spelling issues but probably due to the edition on Amazon not author error. Loved the portrayal of Rosa as fog; insubstantial.... wow. a short tale of a dept not paid on time! when will greedy people learn!

The third story is Banished: a longer novella (which is now published separately and has a prequel called Angelique) WOW this was such a riveting story I could not put it down. Having read the little novella that introduces you to a sweet looking girl, who turns out to be a fallen angel who is far from angelic I was hooked.
This novel slams you right into it from the first few pages, you witness the angel taking over the girls body and how it corrupts those around her.... and the horror that she does to keep her from boredom.
The links to historic places/events is inspired!
As you come further into the future (the here & now) this little horror child picks up a few minions along the way. Reading their transformation made my heart weep.....

this is a brilliant book from the prolific Billie Sue Mosiman, so if you are unsure by all the other reviews, this book should be an easy read and let you know what she can achieve.

More About the Author

Author of more than 60 books on Amazon, I am a thriller, suspense, and horror novelist, a short fiction writer, and a lover of words. In a diary when I was thirteen years old I wrote, "I want to grow up to be a writer." It seems that was always my course. My books have been published since 1984 and two of them received an Edgar Award Nomination for best novel and a Bram Stoker Award Nomination for most superior novel. I have been a regular contributor to a myriad of anthologies and magazines, with more than 160 short stories published. My work has been in such diverse publications as Horror Show Magazine and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. I taught writing for Writer's Digest and for AOL online, and gave writing workshops locally in Texas. I was an assistant editor at a Houston literary magazine and co-edited several trade paperback anthologies with Martin Greenberg. My latest work in paperback and Kindle digital is SINISTER-Tales of Dread, a compilation of fourteen new short stories all written in 2013. In December 2014 SINISTER-Tales of Dread 2014 debuts.

Recently I've sold short stories to JAMAIS VU, the premier magazine, and the anthologies BETTER WEIRD edited by Paul F. Olson from Cemetery Dance, ALLEGORIES OF THE TAROT edited by Annetta Ribken, FRESH FEAR edited by William Cook, WRAPPED IN RED edited by Jennifer Greene, and SOMEONE WICKED and INSIDIOUS ASSASSINS edited by Weldon Burge. My latest suspense novel, THE GREY MATTER, was published by Post Mortem Press in April 2014.

I was born in Alabama and live now in Texas on a small ranch.

My work has been predominately suspense thrillers, with my short fiction being more speculative.

I love to read (especially on my Kindle), watch old movies, take photographs, and travel.

Because of my love of storytelling, I've been fortunate enough to make a lifelong investment in writing stories and novels.
