Each customer screen replacement that I've done with this product has had to be re-done, or I've lost money because despite returning and getting a refund for the screen, I've had to source locally or pass it along to someone else that currently has a different manufacturer or OEM in stock, usually costing more than I am being paid.
This is probably after going through 5-6 attempts with them.
The problems usually seem to be digitizer problems with dead areas of the screen.
Avoid this product. It seems to be the most common on Amazon, but don't let that fool you or the let the price suck you in.
That said, it comes with no instructions, and the repair is the most technical I've ever done, but it is an amazing product (even looks like an OEM apple).
Youtube a Iphone4s repair video for instructions.
***be sure to take the protective coating off the back side of the glass, or else you will install it incorrectly and end up with the tinted unclear display as some have mentioned***
Do not take this lightly, but for what this product is, and what it costs, 5 stars
With this kit, a steady hand and a good guide (the ones on iFixIt are awesome), self repair of your iPhone 4s is definitely possible!
I was trying to stick it out until I was eligible for an upgrade and get a new phone. But it started to crack worse and typing became a problem.
I saw the negative reviews and I was nervous but gave it a try. Taking the phone apart isn't too bad. It's just a bunch of screws that are VERY VERY tiny. I watched a youtube video to take it apart and had a seperate piece of paper where I labeled the parts and the screws so I knew what part went where when I put it back together. Once I was completely finished, the first screen I purchased didn't work. It wouldn't turn on. I noticed in some other people's reviews that their phone wouldn't do anything when they replaced the screen but when they put the original one back on it, then it would work. My husband mentioned maybe my phone was dead. I knew it wasn't but just to show him, I plugged it up and it turned on! But I soon found out that the top lock/power button didn't work. I thought for a while I could live with this since it was much better than a shattered screen and also once I had taken off my shattered screen, it wasn't going back together because the glass fell apart in a ton of pieces.Read more ›
So of course thanks to Amazon, I was able to ship it back and then received a refund. The PROBLEM is that I didnt want a refund, I wanted a working part. So after a week I got my money back but still need a screen. I made sure not to order from this same vendor and tried again to order another screen from a DIFFERENT seller. Well guess what, All of these sellers use the same Chinese vendor and so the SECOND screen came in yesterday and it too has the same misaligned screw tabs... so I guess I am just screwed!
What has happened to quality assurance? Amazon hopefully is reading these reviews and will STOP shipping INCORRECT parts! Hopefully... please!!!
Now on a positive note, I did get a refund and the shipping return was paid, but I am not a happy customer. All I wanted was a working part. If all these so-called vendors on Amazon use the same Manufacturer then it seems the odds of getting the correct part are ZERO. At least on Amazon. I am very dissapointed in Amazon's QA and oversight of their sellers. Keep in mind, BOTH sellers shipped from Amazon warehouse. Probably out of the same bin.
I hope this review helps others, I order a lot, but rarely review... however, this issue needs to be addressed. I hope Amazon does review this and act upon the information to save other customers from this same issue.
