4.0 out of 5 stars Better than a band-aid.
There is no doubt about it. New Skin stinks. It smells up the room when you use it and hours later you can still smell it. But it works. I often have small cuts and abrasions and since I'm a swimmer I try to avoid going to the pool when I've got an open cut. New skin fills the gap and keeps your scrape protected until it heals over. I like it better than a Band-Aid...

3.0 out of 5 stars Like an artificial scab - works great for joints
I had a scrape on my elbow that wasn't healing quite right - every time I moved my arm, the developing scab would crack and expose the wound. And it hurt every time! Regular bandages kept the area too moist, so I tried this stuff.

It does sting a ton and it does have a strong smell like nail polish. But once it dries, it doesn't hurt and it's just like a real...

I like it better than a Band-Aid because a Band-Aid can trap moisture and leave your skin white and clammy underneath and takes a long time to heal.

While I could wish this product had a better smell, I'm willing to deal with the stink because it works. 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars good under makeup to cover acne, December 2, 2007

This review is from: NEW SKIN LIQUID BANDAGE BOTTLE .3 OZ [Health and Beauty] (Health and Beauty)
I forgot why I bought it,I didn't know it would be such a big help. The day before my birthday, I got a big zit in the middle of my right cheek..I manage to pop it out(don't do that), because I didn't want it to be big, red and swollen. I applied two coat on top of the zit, after it dry, I apply foundation and concealer on top of it, so that the makeup wouldn't have direct contact to the wound. It stayed put all day and all night long, even the makeup remover couldn't take it off..2 days later, the dead skin came off, my scar completely fade away!!! I was so amazed...couldn't believe my eyes..This is a must have for girls who have pimples and use makeup, this definitely help to keep makeup away from making the pimples getting worse..

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me, May 13, 2007
This review is from: NEW SKIN LIQUID BANDAGE BOTTLE .3 OZ [Health and Beauty] (Health and Beauty)
Does it sting when applied? Yes. It's an antiseptic, so this shouldn't really come as a surprise. The sting wears off very quickly, approximately one minute. As far as the smell, I think it smells good- in fact I usually take a whiff before putting the cap back on the bottle. I'm surprised to see that others do not care for the smell, but to each his own. It takes about 5 minutes to dry, not 10-15 as another reviewer wrote. This product works great for blisters- I've put it on fresh blisters and been back outside working without gloves immediately afterwards. It can tend to peel a little, but can easily be reapplied, right over what's left of the previous application. Once dried, it's wise to let it peel on it's own- it does become skin-like and force-peeling it can reopen the wound just like picking a scab. This product protects and disinfects, while letting air reach the wound to promote faster healing, and most importantly allowing the flexibility to do manual labor that regular bandages would not stand up to. A quality product that should be in everyone's medicine cabinet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, November 23, 2010
This review is from: NEW SKIN LIQUID BANDAGE BOTTLE .3 OZ [Health and Beauty] (Health and Beauty)
Last Thursday I sliced a pretty decent chunk off the tip of my finger using a hand vegetable slicer. Did the whole drill - washed it out, used peroxide (which hurt way more than I expected), bandaged it with normal band-aids and waited for all of the bleeding to stop. Making matters worse, I start a new job as an organist in 10 days, so I kind of need all of my fingers in working order. Did some internet research on Friday and read about New Skin, so I went out and bought some. Wasn't sure if the cut was too deep to use it, so I kept bandaging it over the weekend. Plus I'd read the reviews about how this stings and was not looking forward to the same pain as when I used the peroxide. Yes...I'm a wimp...and yes...I was psyching myself up so I could handle the pain when I finally decided to apply the New Skin.

By Monday the wound was no longer bleeding when I removed the band-aids, so I let it air dry for several hours but continued the band-aid drill until today (Tuesday). I had tried practicing piano over the weekend with the band-aids on, and every time I put pressure on my cut finger I wanted to scream in pain. Today I needed to go over to the church to practice on the organ, so I worked up the courage to try the New Skin because I thought that would help ease the pain of putting pressure on the finger. By now the wound has started to heal a bit, but it still stung when I applied the New Skin. Though seriously, not half as bad as I expected. I did use a couple of coats to make sure it was sealed well, and it did take quite a while to dry properly. But I practiced for 3 hours with minimal pain compared to when I was wearing band-aids. I did put a band-aid over the wound after I applied the New Skin just because I wasn't sure if it would hold up while I was playing. When I took the band-aid off, it had stuck to some of the New Skin, so it peeled and I had to reapply, but no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly, for how well it worked and how much better my finger feels when I play the organ, I could care less how it smells or how much it stings when I apply it or how often I might have to re-apply it - I'm a believer!!

5.0 out of 5 stars great stuff!, January 17, 2011
This review is from: NEW SKIN LIQUID BANDAGE BOTTLE .3 OZ [Health and Beauty] (Health and Beauty)
Somehow I celebrated my 60th year on the planet in an environment with which my body does not agree. I live in snow-belt Michigan and I work; from chain-sawing a hole in the dining room wall of my sister's log house to put in a window, to replacing a power steering pump in my niece's car during a January snow storm. Then I go home and plumb and wire a room for my new bathroom and finish the day playing my guitars and messing with my piano and drum kit.

I've tried everything for my split fingers and this is the answer! After years of trying lotions and potions and unguents, even wearing gloves to bed at night (not good for your love life), I finally bought some of this stuff and by the next day I was ready to rock (in the musical and every other sense of the word).

Sure, it stings a little when you first put it on; but not as much as the constant pain you're trying to cure. While some may find the smell offensive, to me its the pleasant smell of a nice solvent. And then, within a few hours, my fingers are able to do the things I expect them to do!

But once it dries, it doesn't hurt and it's just like a real scab. I found I had a much greater range of painless movement, and the wound healed faster.

Because of the stinging, I wouldn't use it if a bandaid would do. But for cuts in odd places where bandaids don't work well, it's pretty good. I might try a different brand of liquid bandage in the future, but I'll finish my bottle of this first.

2.0 out of 5 stars Messy, smelly, and takes forever to dry -- but it WORKS!, May 8, 2008

I bought this at my local drugstore b/c the Nexcare brand was missing. It does the job, but not very well. It SMELLS (like nailpolish) and takes at least 20min to dry. It doesn't really sting, but it is drippy and messy.

I cut my finger while cutting an onion and the cut itself was fairly deep (I think?). The last time something similar happened, I went to the hospital, and I waited for a good while before the doctor applied Dermabond. So I figured I could go buy this product in lieu of a hospital trip...So far, it's holding, but b/c my wound hadn't stopped bleeding when I applied the adhesive there is some trapped blood between my skin and the adhesive. My wound looks flimsy, like it'll burst open any minute.

It does the job, but not as adequately as I would like. It smells and it's messy (lacks viscosity), and it takes forever to dry. I hear Nexcare makes a better product (although the new version is purported to be less durable).

**On a side note, since my wound is probably "deeper" than most scrapes or papercuts, I should have held the sides of the wound together when applying the product. I couldn't since it was still bleeding...which might explain increased drying time.

I agree this product does hurt when applied to a cut but so does rubbing alcohol or any disinfecting solution. I love this stuff anyways and I agree that the smell isn't that bad. I am constantly getting scratches on my hands while cooking, working around the house, or inadvertantly while playing with my pets. A regular bandage won't do for these scratches since they get soggy which can cause infection. New Skin is the only product I have found that really works to cover those little nicks without letting in infection or other irritants.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Liquid Bandage Ever!, July 29, 2010
This review is from: NEW SKIN LIQUID BANDAGE BOTTLE .3 OZ [Health and Beauty] (Health and Beauty)
This product stings a LOT, like dropping alcohol over an open wound! It also takes a long time to dry. Stay away from it!!! Nexcare liquid bandage works much better and just because it was not available at the store I tried new-skin. I had to throw new-skin straight to the trash can.

I can't believe what a bunch of whiners these reviewers are to complain about the smell.. Honeslty after 2 minutes you would have to put your nose 2 inches from the wound to smell anyhting. This is a great solutions for scratches and abrasions where a normal band aid would not work.
