Review

"...This is the book you want! The characters have a presence about them that I have been hard pressed to find in other books that would be suitable for readers of all ages. I am in love with these three books and will read them again and again!"

Little Orphan Anvil: The Complete Trilogy
by Joseph Beekman
The first, a Tale of Magic and Metal, centers around the epic journey of an old blacksmith aided by two children and a robot named Anvil to free an orphanage from the machinations of a witch. Fifteen years after is the second tale, the Shades of Fate, where the children of the first adventurers release the witch back on the world and the race is on again to get control of things. The robot, Anvil, features greatly in all three tales and personifies the magic of the land of iron and anvil. The third installment villains are further into the paranormal creep arsenal with hideous northern crones, bats with poison injectors in their tongues and zombies.

I enjoyed this story and Joseph's telling of it. It is a fantasy with plenty of descriptive writing to paint the reader into the Land of Iron and Anvil, where volcanoes are mined for the magic iron for the making of robot-droids. The entire concept came to life in my head in much the same flavor as one of Tim Burton's movies.

I was offered the complete trilogy to read for an honest review and I'm so glad I had all three books together as the writing and storytelling just got better and better!
In the first book we meet Will and his cat Stella. Will's offer of help to an old woman running an orphange is declined, condemning the orphans to a life of servitude. A few weeks later, Sonny and his dog Ranger find a metal object stuck in the mud in the woods and the robot, Anvil, leads them to Will and together they embark on a quest to save the orphans.
In the second book we meet Tabitha and her quest partners Will, Tinspar, Aleeria and Anvil. Tabitha was the character who 'hooked' me and once she entered the story, I couldn't put my kindle down!
In the third book, Jonathan and Haley are added to the quest and help destroy the giant pumpkin with the meteorite full of the old magic of the realm.
Though fast paced and full of magic, these fantasy stories also deal with the human condition and it's frailties...guilt, loyalty, fear, love and friendship.
Great storytelling...you will love it:-)

I became a fan of Mr. Beekman over a year ago when I first read Little Orphan Anvil and absolutely fell in love with this story of courage, bravery, and friendship. Captivated by the first installment I have anxiously awaited each installment so that I would be able to continue on the journey mapped out in the pages of this book.
The three pieces separately are amazing as stand alone pieces and I'd know after having my print copy hijacked by a 5 year old who refused to return it to me. Each installment is its own story and each piece takes the reader away to a far off land and to new and exciting friends. The characters are deep and well rounded and portray the simplest and kindest emotions humans posess, kindeness, love, honor, devotion, and friendship. All ages can appreciate this series and the story it tells, younger readers get to go on an adventure and learn what it really means to be a good person and the older readers can enjoy an adventure that doesn't require cripplingly complex plot lines to enjoy the story. I would highly recommend this series to anyone including my own children who will enjoy it immensely... 5 stars to LOA Trilogy!! Well Done

This is a really well written story set in a science fiction/fantasy world. Thought many of many of the elements were rather interesting, with a mixture of robots and magic in what I would think of as an almost dystopian setting. The story line moves really well throughout, all the way from beginning to end. Any age person could read this book also, there's no violence or foul language to be found.

Little Orphan Anvil the complete trilogy by Joseph Beekman

This is a trilogy that I accepted for review because I adore sci - fi.
Once I started reading it I soon discovered that this author is a genius in layering his penmanship.

It is not one story you will be reading but several.

The basic, a little metallic robot saving his friends and thus the world by default is the basic premise of the plot.
But the second story is one of courage, of loss, of even more courage and sacrifice.
The third story you will find is that of your own journey in life. Your own choices and where that landed you.

Character development in the book is remarkable, the author keeps adding to the characters and naturally aging them in a logical fashion,
with that touch of magic and mystery attached.
A truly brilliant characterization once again of not only Anvil but of Will,
whom with his obvious good heart gets underplayed by the author until the reader themselves work out that this man is the one who is sacrificing the most.
That realization was a rather disconcerting one, but one I was glad I came to.

The book is professionally edited and formatted and a true joy to read for this purpose alone.
Who would I recommend it, too? Too you. Get it; read it, you can thank me later.

A Review of the Little Orphan Anvil by Joseph Beekman

This is a trilogy that parents and older children can both enjoy. The author's imagination is impressive in the manner within which he describes the surprising world he created where magic and metal meld together. I have never before read a book that combines the sci-fi favorite of robotics with one of my favorites - magic.
It is essentially a refreshing play on the evil witch story but what makes this trilogy even more unique is the unexpected twists that the reader definitely would not be able to predict. What makes this a great read for older children is that it inspires that feeling of appeasement, from knowing that good can overcome evil despite the many adversities that the characters face in each of the books.

I would recommend this to readers that loved Harry Potter and felt disappointed when the series ended. This to me, is something you can pick up and find delight that will nurture your imagination in the most unexpected, yet fantastic way.
