Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I wanted to write a book that would add expertise to people's careers in an area where there is not years and years of experience or history.  The book is very comprehensive and as one original reviewer told me, "I am only half-way through it and it has a LOT of meat in it."

Get the book and add a broader focus that includes decades of working on mission critical and high-tech real estate projects to your own expertise. As I say in the book, "Whoever has the best-trained workforce, is the toughest competitor."

Other quotes and CARLINI-ISMs are found throughout the book:
"The Internet of Things (IoT) needs to be able to run on the Internet of Reality (the network infrastructure that is in place)."

"Creating new conceptual frameworks for infrastructure means tearing down obsolete education and curricula."

"Best practices are not found in bureaucracies."

Invest in the book to invest in your career.

From the Back Cover

Location Location Connectivity is a book about the convergence of Real Estate, Infrastructure, Technology and regional Economic Development. Carlini is no idle by-stander. His perspective is based on decades of designing and planning mission critical network applications to high-tech real estate and corporate enterprises.

His award-winning teaching at Northwestern University for two decades provides additional strategic executive insights.

"Carlini has been proclaimed the Da Vinci of the Intelligent Building Movement. His book is a work of art. He has developed graphic and frameworks to put concepts forth for easier adoption and application." - Frank Bisbee, industry pundit

"Visionary and thought-provoking for real estate professionals,"  - JW Najarian, publisher of ONPurpose Magazine.

An extraordinary blend of vision, common sense, and practical wisdom. There is something for everyone in this book. LLC is sure to become the Bible for managing and developing modern infrastructures. This book is loaded with pearls of wisdom gained from hard earned, practical experiences. LLC is the kind of book to you read once and then reference again, and again, and again. Every mayor in the country should read this book. I wish this book had been around 20 years ago.

As a senior business executive responsible for managing buildings and information technology while trying to make a profit, I can attest to the principles and guide points that Mr. Carlini has packaged in this thought provoking and very easy to read book. The silver bullet Carlini-isms throughout the book are pure gems. Short, to the point, and applicable to managing the opportunities and problems found in the modern work place. I put this guy at the top of the consulting list for any major capital building project.
Thank you Mr. Carlini for authoring this book.

In reading this book, I also found the CARLINI-ISMs extremely helpful and interesting as they relate to pragmatic management in everyday business. In addition to covering real estate and technology, this book also sheds light on leadership and management for 21st century organizations.

In order to create solid local economic development, there is a need to understand how to apply technology to business and to commerical real estate. This book covers many facets in areas that need new definitions for 21st century opportunities. The chapter on procurement provides a broader set of criteria than what most people use to buy mission critical technology for their enterprise.

I recommend the book for people trying to understand how technology impacts every facet in every industry competing in today's global commerce.

This is a fun read! Jim is a solid industry expert with a flair for cutting to the core of issues. I especially like the way the book is organized with his summaries at the end of his chapter. I also am a big fan of his "Carlini-isms". In this book, Jim presents a no-holds-barred critique of business, government and public education. The breadth of his experience put him in a unique position to weigh in on a myriad of topics. This book has a number of valuable insights and perspectives that enlighten and entertain.

I love Jim's vision of the future and what it takes for success through the investment in technology infrastructure. Jim has done a great job in laying out a roadmap for community growth. We need government and business leaders to heed his advice to keep us competitive in our global economy.

EXCERPTED FROM THEIR REVIEW
"...........The book approaches the subject from a multi-disciplinary perspective. It expounds on the first level, real estate. Then, moves on to the infrastructure, followed by technology and finally, economic development. The reader will find a logical progression within each topic as it provides the knowledge to progress into the next one.

The real estate discussions center on the typical properties that will need an intelligent telecommunications network, such as commercial, industrial and private campuses, city centers, private sports and entertainment venues, and others.

The infrastructure discussion deals with what it needs to support these deployments such as power, networks, buildings, and transportation.

A must-read for anyone in real estate, telecommunications, and technology."

ALSO -- the US ARMY CORPS of ENGINEERS refer to the "Platform for Commerce" defined in this book in their "Infrastructure and the Operational Art" Handbook (2014) as a business definition of infrastructure and economic growth.

The Platform for Commerce was one of the original concepts I added in the book from my original whitepaper, "Intelligent Infrastructure: Securing Regional Sustainability", written for the US Department of Homeland Security in 2009 and presented at Columbia University at their Workshop for Aging Infrastructure Conference in 2009.
