As a senior business executive responsible for managing buildings and information technology while trying to make a profit, I can attest to the principles and guide points that Mr. Carlini has packaged in this thought provoking and very easy to read book. The silver bullet Carlini-isms throughout the book are pure gems. Short, to the point, and applicable to managing the opportunities and problems found in the modern work place. I put this guy at the top of the consulting list for any major capital building project.
Thank you Mr. Carlini for authoring this book.
In order to create solid local economic development, there is a need to understand how to apply technology to business and to commerical real estate. This book covers many facets in areas that need new definitions for 21st century opportunities. The chapter on procurement provides a broader set of criteria than what most people use to buy mission critical technology for their enterprise.
I recommend the book for people trying to understand how technology impacts every facet in every industry competing in today's global commerce.
I love Jim's vision of the future and what it takes for success through the investment in technology infrastructure. Jim has done a great job in laying out a roadmap for community growth. We need government and business leaders to heed his advice to keep us competitive in our global economy.
"...........The book approaches the subject from a multi-disciplinary perspective. It expounds on the first level, real estate. Then, moves on to the infrastructure, followed by technology and finally, economic development. The reader will find a logical progression within each topic as it provides the knowledge to progress into the next one.
The real estate discussions center on the typical properties that will need an intelligent telecommunications network, such as commercial, industrial and private campuses, city centers, private sports and entertainment venues, and others.
The infrastructure discussion deals with what it needs to support these deployments such as power, networks, buildings, and transportation.
A must-read for anyone in real estate, telecommunications, and technology."

ALSO -- the US ARMY CORPS of ENGINEERS refer to the "Platform for Commerce" defined in this book in their "Infrastructure and the Operational Art" Handbook (2014) as a business definition of infrastructure and economic growth.
The Platform for Commerce was one of the original concepts I added in the book from my original whitepaper, "Intelligent Infrastructure: Securing Regional Sustainability", written for the US Department of Homeland Security in 2009 and presented at Columbia University at their Workshop for Aging Infrastructure Conference in 2009.
