Number 14 in the series reunites foster child Stephanie with her long-lost mother. Rick, the handsome boyfriend, gets aggravated at Stephanie's obsessive search for her past, and they split temporarily. Worse yet, her mother Billie is dying of cancer and on welfare. Here's where the author rolls out the melodrama, and the plot collapses: Stephanie moves in with Billie to care for her, until Billie, realizing the sacrifices that her daughter is making, fakes a recovery and Stephanie returns home. Billie then dies, leaving a note explaining all. Billie is strictly a puppet, and the plot wouldn't be acceptable even as a made-for-TV script.
