LOVED "the book thief"; reccomend others as good? please:) Hi,
So i just read the book thief, and loved the book! i especially loved the strong themes throughout the novel, like the power of words, the beauty and brutality of humanity, literature, etc.

I was wondering if anybody would recommend a book that they think is just as amazing as the book thief, and has strong meaningful themes throughout?

thank you very much

The Book Thief is excellent. I recommend I Am the Messenger by the same author. I also enjoyed The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

Another book in the same era as The Book Thief is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Totally different tone, however, but enjoyable.

A smaller book, maybe not as strong but effected me deeply: Did I Expect Angels? by Kathryn Maughan. She doesn't seem to have any other books, maybe she's a new writer, but I liked this one.

The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. A bit darker and shorter but still highlights many of the same themes.

Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. The books remind me of each other in a lot of ways.
