1.0 out of 5 stars Chocolate Cherry, for real!
My natural hair color is medium-dark brown. I usually lighten my color and add some reddish tone to it. For some reason I thought I'd give this color a try, big mistake on my part. My hair looked black in the house and a crazy, un-natural purple-burgundy in the sunlight. It looked like a Halloween wig! I hated the color and felt pretty stupid for trying it. I refused to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Dramatic, Long-Lasting Color? Dramatic, Yes. Long-Lasting... Not So Much., July 20, 2007
I've been dying my hair various shades of red for just about 10 years. One of the problems with the red shades, it seems, is that they fade after about a few weeks. After growing frustrated with the same-old color I'd been using for years ("light reddish blonde" which faded to "blonde with some orange" in about 2 weeks), I decided to go dramatic with this color by Feria. Feria is known for *dramatic* color, so it seemed right up my alley.

My immediate results were ~spectacular~ and I loved it!. The color was rich, prismatic, and it actually looked like I had highlights. I did notice some spots of unevenness, where areas were considerably darker red than others, which is hard to tell if it is because I was doing the coloring too soon after my previous coloring (about 3 weeks) or if the dye itself was applied unevenly (meaning you need to be hyper-vigilant about ensuring the dye is really applied evenly). My natural color is dark brown (and the color it was being dyed over was a darker auburn), and my color results were pretty much as depicted on the box, if not ever-so-slightly darker. Dramatic and eye catching, just what you'd expect from Feria.

It's now been 2 weeks, however, and the color has faded considerably. It's still red, but not as it was before. I'm not really disappointed, but I would have liked to maintain that "freshly dyed" color for a little longer. The kit, of course, includes conditioner that you use immediately after dying, then supposedly use "once a week until redoing color" to help maintain the color. While the conditioner does seem to help keep the color, the problem is there isn't *near* enough conditioner included to condition your hair for the 4-6 weeks between colorings. Why can't they sell more conditioner separately? I'd use it as my regular conditioner if it helped keep my color...

Overall, I love the color, and I love how dramatic it is in the first weeks, but the hunt is still on for a red that won't fade a ton. At least when this color fades, it doesn't fade into a scary shade of red (or lose all of its red), like some of them do, so that's a plus for me.

When all is said and done, I'll be using this color for awhile.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best "over the counter" haircolor, January 17, 2008

I'm a natural redhead (or was!) & for me this is the best color I've found. My sister is a hair colorist in Georgia and told me this is the only "over the counter" color that's got any decent color. The tone on tone colors are actually noticeable and you don't have to be a genius to get it right, just mix it.

Note: Once I've done my roots, I add water & conditioner (Dove, cheap & good) to the dye before I pull the color through the rest of my hair. The lower I get, the more I add to the dye (I've got long hair & one bottle is enough). Helps keep from overprocessing the older hair and damaging it too much. Biggest diff. w/over the counter is the amount of ammonia...more damagins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shows up on black hair!, August 8, 2006
I have black hair, so you can imagine how hard it is to find a hair coloring kit that shows up on my hair. Feria definitely does a good job. My black hair turned red, though still darker than the one shown on the box. I still like the color! I ALWAYS use feria when I dye my hair at home =)

5.0 out of 5 stars color is great, condition. . amazing, February 12, 2011

The red is, as other reviewers here and elsewhere have noted, a truly lovely multifaceted red, shimmering copper, with none of the pinkish tones you might get elsewhere. What gets me, though, is the truly great condition my hair is in after I color, even before I apply the package conditioner. I had been using Clairol Natural Instincts because I can sometimes get itchy with a permanent color, but I got sick of the wash out and fade, so I tried this (after the allergy test, natch). I am a natural dark blond, btw. This has to be the best permanent color I've used, and I intend to keep using it. Gorgeous color, leaves hair feeling good, and no itchiness. What's not to love?

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST red color ever!!, June 10, 2007

I have tried every brand and shade of red ever made, and this is my favorite. I have very blue undertones to my skin and this shade is perfect...I get so many compliments on it! And this is the only drugstore red I have ever found that actually GROWS out instead of fading off first. I will be heartbroken if it's ever discontinued.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this color!, September 14, 2009
This has been my go-to color for a few years now. I really should just stick with it since it's the only color I really like. Sometimes I do get bored with my color so I'll try out new shades and different brands. This usually ends with me going back to Feria's Iced Mocha. My natural color is medium-dark brown. Iced Mocha helps to lighten and brighten my color. It adds a nice warm tone with some slight reddish and golden highlights while out in the sunlight. It looks perfectly natural. This is a safe color to try if you're new to coloring your hair. It's not too light and not too dark and it won't make your hair freakishly red. It's a nice, natural-looking color to lighten up dull, dark brown hair. Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!, June 10, 2011

I have been using Feria #74 for more than 10 years. That right there should tell you I LOVE it!

Feria #74 is not for someone who does not want to be noticed. It is quite bright immediately after dying it, and it stays that way for several days. I find it tends to "bleed" on a towel for a few days, too (I've invested in some dark colored ones just for these days.) The color will fade into a more natural shade within a few days. But there's no reason you can't go out right after dying your hair ... although I would recommend wearing a light brown or bright red shirt (those two are the best I've found to tone it down.) I get tons and tons and tons of compliments on this color. Most people don't even realize it's not natural, and when I tell them that it's a home color, they're always stunned. If you want a just a touch of red or to be strawberry blonde, this color is NOT for you. This color is to be red, red, red! Some celebrities with roughly this shade ... Debra Messing, Marcia Cross, Lindsay Lohan (in her younger days) and Christina Hendricks. I have extremely pale skin and the red really pops!

It's easy to apply, but the conditioner it comes with is complete junk. I toss it in the trash and have a 6-ounce bottle of the OLD Feria conditioner. That can be purchased at Sally Beauty Supply.

I completely recommend this product ... just be ready to be noticed and stopped wherever you go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Color Ever!, November 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My wife uses this haircolor and just loves it!! Everywhere we go, she gets compliments from people. Strangers approach her and tell her how much they love the color and what beautiful hair she has. She was naturally blonde for 50 years and recently went to this Copper Shimmer. She said "Who says blondes have more fun, I've had more fun in the 6 months I've been a redhead". Keep selling this great color!! Would recommend to anyone thinking about becoming a redhead. The color is magnigicent, especially in the sunlight. Lots of shimmer!!

I refused to go to work with this crazy color and get teased so I ended up spending money and time at a salon to have them remove as much of this color as possible. I could see the stylist kind of tsk, tsking me for coloring at home. It took quite a while but I was left with a lighter color I could live with until I could use my normal hair color again. Just be aware that this will get extremely dark and it does not look natural at all. You will stand out if that's your goal! As for me, I've learned my lesson and I stick with colors that say "light", even medium colors get way too dark for me. Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars The intense Red-Orange color that I Love!, May 10, 2009
The red-orange color is amazing! I love how it's a natural red shade ( as in not the red hair dyes that have a purple base..this one has an orange base to it )but the color is very intense. As if someone just bumped up the saturation on it. I have natural medium brown hair and putting this shade directly over it still comes out as on the box. I've gotten many compliments on this shade!
