What I know about this battery after using it for 3 charge cycles: It may out-perform the OEM battery in terms of total number of shots / video per charge. It's voltage is slightly higher than the Canon OEM battery so you may have some battery meter issues. On my T2i 550D the indicator shows full battery life when it's nearly dead. I've also seen it show half life when its actually dead. This must be from the voltage difference. Luckily there will be a warning flashing you can't ignore and can then change it out. If you are going to use it for video only, you'll get to know the life cycle and change the battery out proactively when you think it's getting low. I see other reviews that don't experience the meter issue so it may only effect certain models. I still use my Canon battery as the primary but overall for money it's a safe bet for back-up batteries.

These battery packs each have (650mAh) which is approx 1/2 the mAh than Canon's battery pack (1120mAh). This means they last half as long and they charge twice as fast. Both of these batteries are tantamount to 1 Canon battery but is half the price. I can take over 700 pictures in 4hours with one of these battery packs with my Canon T2i constantly on and the pic review set at 2seconds and the battery meter will not even drop one bar. These battery packs are well worth the money spent.

I haven't had mine long enough to comment on overall life of these batteries. I bought them to be emergency backups and for the price I would be happy with only a few hours. So far I've shot almost an hour of video and about 90 photos on the first charge. Camera still reads full power so these met my expectations perfectly.

EDIT after some time: These are great. First pair of these (in a batter grip) just died and needed charging. Hundreds of photos taken in that time and almost an hour of experimental videos. Best value Ive ever had in camera batteries.

Works with my Canon T3i. After fully chargin battery for the fist time, I was able to take ~500 shots with "flash ON" for every shot and it is still going strong. I received batteries labeled "1350 mAH".

Did I say JUNK!

Yep!

I've ordered four batteries and the Canon charger will not recognize three. The charging light will not go on at all. The fourth battery when moved around in the charger activates the charging light intermittently.

I've contacted the seller and I'll give you a followup on how this was resolved.

Might be time to start buying real Canon batteries!

June 22nd 2011 Update below:

First and foremost I would like to thank New Harbor the company that WAS selling these batteries at the time of my purchase. They were very friendly and accommodating and gave me a refund on the batteries that did not work and paid for the return shipping. Looks like another company is selling the batteries at this time.

Anyway...

I returned the first set of four batteries and New Harbor sent me four more. Out of the new batch two batteries charged and worked as expected and two were not recognized by the Canon battery charger. So out of a total of eight batteries only two worked. Not the best odds. Also I haven't really used the batteries for any amount of extended time, so I don't know how well they will perform in terms of the amount shutter clicks and video shooting length per battery.

I'll see how these batteries perform but if I had to do it again I'd try: Maximal Power Li-ion Battery to Replace Canon LP-E8

Good luck everyone... hope this helps your battery decision making!

I ordered these because I like to have lots of battery back up and these are cheap. I have noticed that they don't last as long as Canon's, but you're paying half of what Canon's go for. I'm sure the battery life won't last as long either, but I've only had them for about a month.

Ordered the pair because they say 'Japanese Cells' in the description, which are typically a little better quality. I am an Engineer and happen to have some expensive battery cycling/testing equipment at my disposal. Each battery pack is marked '1500 mAh', which claims to have higher capacity than the original Canon one, which is rated at 1120 mAh. I put them both through the test sequence, one returned a capacity of 780mAh, the other 796mAh. This is almost half of the claimed 1500mAh that is marked on the pack.

Capacity aside, the packs are fine. They fit in my T2i and Canon charger just fine. The T2i powers up just fine with them in and seems to work on a full charge. This is why they get 2 stars instead of just 1.

I could see there being issues with video. Video sucks more juice from the battery, and when you suck juice you get an instant voltage drop related to the capacity of the battery. On a lower capacity pack like this one the voltage will drop pretty quickly down below what the camera sees as a 'dead battery' while in video mode. You might get a few minutes of video on a full charge, but at half charge or so it will probably stop working, though it will probably take more stills.

These aren't really worth returning, so I'll keep them around as spares. They'll work for some emergency picture taking if both my 'real' batteries fail.

My advice is to spend a little more and try to find a 'real' pack, unless you just need a backup for a few shots. I'm probably going to get another Canon branded one now, don't know if I'd roll the dice on another knockoff.
