Better than their first, this LP (CD actually) rocks!,

I saw HF live three nights ago in Portland, Oregon, playing with the awesome Super Furry Animals. It was a good matchup. The four guys from HF - rock-style drummer, bass player, two guys with keyboards and doohickey's laid out - would find a groove and jam on it, letting the song grow so you could dance around, bob your head, etc, but then would get out before it got too monotonous. This is no Casio band: They rocked out, the sound was full and exciting, and every song had an identity of it's own. I was impressed, so I rushed out and bought their CD (confusingly?) titled "LP." It captures very well the feel and structure of the songs I saw played live; matter of fact; I recognized most of the songs right away. So, this is no "noise" band, but a set of guys who play well-thought-out, fresh and groovin' rock (mostly instrumental but with various yelps and shouts to amp up the fun a bit more).
Their self-titled 2005 album is pretty good also, but not quite as compelling, IMHO. So, get this CD if you like your rock/electronica played with emotion and feel, but don't need lyrics to tell you what it's all about. And most certainly, check them out live if they grace your town.

This album is great to listen to. So many interesting uses of sound and rhythm. The vinyl itself is quite heavy and the label is perfect. I would highly recommend someone buying this LP. This record company sweetens the deal as well. I was eligible to a free download of the digital version of the album. I have to say that the download quality is a little weak. I was only able to obtain it at 160kbps...but that is high enough sound quality to just listen to it.

An absolute perfect blend of rythm-box manipulations, real drums, beautiful scores, epic themes and almost dron-y dance muisc imitations makes this the absolute must-own mash up of the indie cool, the progressive genre-bend, the electronic adventures and jam-fuelled build ups. For fans of: Battles, tortoise, dance and music in general!

I really dig these guys. I was never too into rave/techno dance. It was always missing something... something like a rock concert reproducibility. These guy, and some of the others like them (Chrystal Castles, Deefhoof, and a Place to Bury Strangers) fill the void.
Even sounds better with no lyrics.

Digging this one. Check out their MySpace site for longer listens, but basically these guys would be terrific fun live, especially with a head full of [ILLICIT PHARMACEUTICALS REFERENCE DELETED]. Even listening to this one on my crappy computer speakers is a pleasure, as this relatively short CD contains nine slices of high-spirited, happy, self-indulgent rock wig-out that make me smile and crank up the volume knob. A few stand-out tracks, but all of it good wholesome fun for the whole family. Feed dad a few beers and watch him try to remember his post-punk groove-thang, dance about like a loon with the dog and the kids, mosh the living room with friends, enjoy.
