5.0 out of 5 stars A Holiday Album for the Ages, October 28, 2011

This review is from: [LP Record] White Christmas - Living Strings and Living Voices (Vinyl)
The Living Strings and Living Voices White Christmas album is one of my all-time favorite holiday selections. It's as warm as a cozy fire in December. Its lush orchestration and excellent choral arrangements are just--well--comfortable. Maybe the real reason I love this so much is that I remember playing the daylights out of this album during those magical Christmas seasons of childhood, back in the 1960's.

The format is similar to many other choral groups that were so popular during that era, from Mitch Miller to Lawrence Welk to Ray Conniff, but this always seemed to me to have more depth and feeling. The tenderness of "Christmas Lullaby" nearly brings me to tears as I listen to it over 40 years removed from my introduction to it. "Here's to You" is warm and and evocative of that simpler time. The ever-popular "White Christmas" is presented with understated melancholy...a masterful rendering.

I can't recommend this album highly enough. If any record executives have any concern for true quality, they would re-issue the great offerings from this golden age of holiday music, and this album would become a treasure to a new generation in a new millenium. I love and cherish my digital conversion from the vinyl album I searched out a few years ago, but a remastered CD version would get a tremendous amount of play from me during my (admittedly) extended holiday listening season. Sit back, close your eyes, and be young again.

It doesn't get any better than this - Christmas sounding the way it should. Get a copy, sit back, have a drink and soak up the feeling...
