5.0 out of 5 stars Best small flashlight on the market
I have been using Photon Lights for years and they are my favorite type of flashlight. The best thing about them is they're always there when you need them! They take up very little space on your keychain. The Photon Micro has fully electronic dimmer functions, strobe lights, and morse code signaling capability -- definitely a good toy for a gadget freak...

I have been using Photon Lights for years and they are my favorite type of flashlight. The best thing about them is they're always there when you need them! They take up very little space on your keychain. The Photon Micro has fully electronic dimmer functions, strobe lights, and morse code signaling capability -- definitely a good toy for a gadget freak.

These lights last a long time (much longer than the cheapies!), even more if you have and use the dimmer when you want to preserve your night vision. It's also easy to replace the batteries with standard inexpensive CR2016 or CR2032 batteries, depending on which light you have.

There's a very convenient plastic clip mount available which you can use to attach your Photon to a hat, headband, bike or anything else. If you get the Photon Freedom Micro light, the clip and a keychain quick release are included.

Make sure your Photon Light is the new "2x brighter" edition if you're going for a white LED, or look into other colors/options. IR, UV, multicolor versions are available. There's a "covert" body style available which doesn't throw as much light to the sides - also good for preserving night vision.

Best all around is the new 2x bright white which is actually real white light (not light blue like older LED designs). The coolest looking color is probably the turquoise. The best combo for night hiking is the Freedom Micro Green (Covert).

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright, Waterproof, and Durable, June 1, 2009
I've become somewhat of an avid hiker and I find the LRI Micro-Light to be absolutely indispensable piece of hiking equipment. It is bright enough to serve as a primary light source for my evening hikes. Since I attach it to my keychain, I can use it as a backup light source in case my flashlight fails.

Brightness
----------
I'm just AMAZED at how bright this light is, especially considering that it uses just a couple of button lithium batteries (CR-2016 or CR-2032)! The brightness is adjustable and continuously variable from dim to very bright. At the brightest setting, it is almost as bright if not as bright as a regular LED flashlight.

Battery Life
------------
The battery life is simply phenomenal. I've used it for about 6 hours worth of light, and so far, its brightness hasn't diminished.

Practicality
------------
- Waterproof

- 4 Modes

(1) Regular Mode
In the regular mode, press the button once to turn the light on, and press it again to turn the light off.

(2) Strobe Light Mode
In the Strobe Light mode, the Micro-Light can be used as a safety beacon light.

(3) SOS Mode
In the SOS mode, the Micro-Light can continously send an SOS signal · · · _ _ _ · · · (3 short pulses, followed by 3 long pulses, followed by 3 short pulses).

(4) Pulse Mode
In the pulse mode, press the switch to turn on the light; let go of the switch to turn the light off. There is one shortcoming to this mode: if the light is pressed and held beyond a predetermined period (about 10 seconds), the light goes into regular mode. You will once again have to program the Micro-Light back into pulse mode by performing a pattern of pulses outlined in the manual.

- Firm Button
The button is very firm so even if it gets inadventantly bumped in your pocket, it won't turn on the light and cause the battery to needlessly drain.

Necklace/Clip-On Light
----------------------
The light comes with a necklace and a clip that you can attach the Micro-Light to. You can use your Micro-Light like a headlamp if you clip it to a visor or hat!

Conclusion
----------
The LRI Micro-Light is near perfect. My only complaint is that when in the pulse mode, if the button is held beyond a predetermined time, the Micro-Light reverts back to regular mode. Otherwise, I have absolutely no other complaints. The LRI Micro-Light is bright, durable, and practical. It even comes with a necklace and clip accessories. I think it's well worth the money - highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little light, November 9, 2009
There is plenty of light output on high, and the dimming controls work well. The flashing beacon features could be useful, too. The light is so small that it's easy to block the beam with your fingers when holding it and trying to do a two-hand operation like tying a tent guyline. It's best to use the enclosed clip and fasten it to the bill of your hat. It also would serve well as a key-chain light. Replacement batteries are MUCH cheaper in bulk online; buy 10 CR2016 batteries and you have 5 replacement sets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Key Chain Brilliance, May 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For those of you looking for a decently bright and FEATHERWEIGHT edition to your keychain, this is your light. After all, we cannot ask for a 200 lumen floodlight torch in such a small package. But, for its size, this light is BRIGHT. I have compared this mini-flashlight to several other keychain lights in my possesion and they pale in comparison. It truly is worth the money, outshining its competition. It is so small and light, you will not be able to notice the weight difference on your keychain.

In addition to an exceptionally vibrant flood of light, the Freedom offers other key features which further exemplify its dominance. It has the ability to ramp up its brightness. However, to get it back up to full vibrancy, you must tap to shut it off, and hold to gradually decrease to desired brightness. So, if an improvement was to be made on future models, the ability to ramp back up would be on the list. Nonetheless, the ramping down feature helps you conserve the battery when needed. Although the battery is easily changed, it is nice to know that conservation is an option.

Also, this light comes with a swiveling clip and lanyard. The clip allows you to position your Photon on an object, such as a hat, to utilize as a headlamp, a cool little feature. This clip also swivels 360 degrees, proving its versatility. The lanyard, on the otherhad, is a nice addition, but is not something I plan to use, personally. Its not of great quality, like paracord or tethercord, but is a thoughtful touch from the company. As long as you do not plan on thrashing the lanyard, it should serve its purpose; I'm just not one to place confidence in it to secure my light as I do not want to loose my light. The Freedom also come with a carabiner-esque gate clip for easily addition and removal from a keychain. It seems to have good strength and has been holding up to past few months I have used it. You do not have to worry about this light coming off your keychain at all, its secure.

Overall, this is the best keychain light of its kind I have come accross. And this is saying something, as I thouroughly analyze the market to ensure my money is well spent. If loooking for this type of lighting tool, look no further, this item is a win. And for those who want USA made to support our economy, this light is certainly a must. If these are good enough for astronaunts, then they must be good enough for us normal folk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little light, October 27, 2009

I've had one of these on my keychain for about 5 years. It finally needed to be changed. It's small, puts out a lot of light and it has a safety feature of an SOS signal that is visible for a mile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased!!, October 13, 2009

Great keychain light, when you need two hands at night. After my family saw it, they wanted one too! The directions could be a little more detailed about getting it into blink mode, which is minor. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best keychain light i've used, October 11, 2009

Very bright. I've used other keychain lights were the batteries didn't last half as long as this one, or weren't as bright. I got one from Brookstone that broke in the first two months of use. The last Photon Freedom I had finally broke after three years, and that was not it's fault. Batteries lasted 6 months at a time for me. One of the things I liked about it was, it was so small that I didn't notice a difference with it on or off my keychain. I liked it so much, I bought it again!

Pro's:
-Very bright
-Durable
-Great battery life
-Tiny
-Comes with visor clip

Con's:
-Beam could be more focused for long distances - I've attached the visor clip to my helmet to ride at night or very early morning, and found that the light could only extend my vision to about 15 feet. When walking, your eyes have enough time to see things up to I'd say 30 feet away. But when you're going 20mph, your eyes just don't have time.

-You have to hold down the button for a long time to get it to enter flashing mode

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific! So many options piled into this little light, June 3, 2011
I am so very impressed with this little light!

I like:
1) It is very bright.
2) It is very light.
3) It shines without having to push the button continuously
4) You can control its brightness by continuing to squeeze after you turn it on
5) It has a mode when it can automatically blink at different rates, including SOS, for an emergency situation
6) It came with a key chain hanger and two additional options: a cord to hanging around the neck and a clip holder that can be attached to anything
7) It uses a replaceable Lithium battery (button type)

I don't like:
NOTHING!!!

I am attaching two photos:
(1) a close up of the micro-light next to a penny (note: textured finish differentiates the genuine Photon Freedom light from imitations)
(2) the box it came in with the content of the package (light, cord, clip holder)
