5.0 out of 5 stars The only prep book you really need!
This is by far the best prep book I have worked with. In fact, had I discovered it earlier, I could have saved myself hundreds of dollars from buying useless prep books and taking a prep course. I highly recommend this book to all potential LSAT test takers. Add this book w/some LSAT Prep Tests and you're set to go. Thank you Professor Dave for such a well written and easily understood explanation of all sections of the LSAT! Your students on the west coast are mighty lucky!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful, August 21, 2002
This review is from: The LSAT Advantage with Professor Dave (Paperback)
The LSAT Advantage includes extremely beneficial materials (including full-length practice exams and clear explanations), as well as entertaining quotes and illustrations that make the process of preparing for the LSAT as painless as possible. I'm confident that the materials included in this book were pivitol to helping me score in the 95th percentile on the exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleek, no-nonsense LSAT success in one book, October 9, 2002

This review is from: The LSAT Advantage with Professor Dave (Paperback)
I am a returning student with children and a part time job.
I could not afford the time and money for a LSAT review course. Having been out of the classroom for many years, I had lost my testing edge and the LSAT, after all, is quite intimidating. Finally, I found a great solution: The LSAT Advantage with Professor Dave. His style and approach to the test sections are quite inviting and unique compared to other courses I looked at. He simplifies each of the three exam parts with short insightful lectures, examples and exercises in such a clean, clear way that I came away with a distinctive mastery of the material: my timing improved, my scores increased, and my confidence grew significantly. The LSAT Advantage is more than a book --it's a simulated LSAT course. I heartily recommend this learning experience if you are intimidated in any way by the LSAT exam .

2.0 out of 5 stars Would be ok if not for gender bias, June 4, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book because of the rave reviews on Amazon, and because of the mock classroom format, since I don't have the funds to attend actual LSAT classes. Unfortunately, while it is clearly written and somewhat helpful, the gender bias is repulsive. It is especially ironic because Professor Dave dedicates one track of the accompanying CD to explaining perceived bias against minorities and women in LSATs. I really can't believe this book was published just 2 years ago!

Just about every sample problem set will include a question that throws some sort of gender biased curveball. Examples range from questions stereotyping women as homemakers (p. 28), and stereotyping women as crazy (p. 71), to a premise that grossly misinterprets the suffrage movement (p. 88) to the consistent need to qualify women in professions "a female physicist" or "a woman lawyer" versus "a high school teacher" "a paratrooper" or "a scientist" in other example stimuli.

As a woman planning to become lawyer, I would prefer not to have antiquated stereotypes thrown in my face!

I've begun studying the "LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible", as well as "Cracking the LSAT" by the Princeton Review, and thus far have not seen similar gender biased questions, which is a relief because unlike Professor Dave, these resources use actual LSAT questions.

I recommend the above two books rather than spending money on a book that incorporates gender stereotypes to the point of impeding its usefulness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great starter book, May 17, 2008
If you have no clue what the LSAT is all about and need an introduction, this is the book for you. It helps to alleviate whatever fear or trepidation one may have of the exam. It makes it so that you know the LSAT is doable.
Additionally, the CD that accompanies the book provides additional insights and other information relating to law school application.

However, if you have had little practice or at least know what to expect in the exam, then this book is definitely NOT for you. This, because the book teaches at very rudimentary level, employing questions that are simplistic and are therefore not real LSAT questions.

If your goal is preparation weeks before the exam, then you are better of studying 'The Official LSAT SuperPrep and practicing on past LSAT exam questions.

It is a well thought out and organized book, nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best LSAT book!, January 29, 2003
By
Fiona Leet (Long Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The LSAT Advantage with Professor Dave (Paperback)
This is the absolute best LSAT book around! The book has useful strategies and questions that seem to match the LSAT exactly. The other LSAT books I checked out pale in comparison because they seem to have no plan and are just an overwhelming amount of material. Professor Dave has taken the time to design a program that works and he's added a bonus CD-ROM that has an overview of the law school experience. I give the LSAT Advantage the highest recommendation!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, too many errors, December 3, 2002

I find there are too many typing errors in this book, especially in the last section, the logic game section. There are more than 10 questions in which the answer keys were completely wrong. I believe they need much more careful revision in the next edition.

This review is from: The LSAT Advantage with Professor Dave (Paperback)
Taking the LSAT was a breeze, with Professor Dave's LSAT Advantage. This book gave me a clear understanding of the flow of the test, the types of questions that would be asked, but most importantly, the STRATEGY to use in answering the questions. The practice tests and questions paralleled the LSAT in an uncanny way. I used only Professor Dave's book, and read through it only once, and got a full 5 points higher than my goal. My score was in the 94th percentile.
Thank you Professor Dave!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superior LSAT Review Book, September 10, 2002
This review is from: The LSAT Advantage with Professor Dave (Paperback)
The LSAT Advantage by Professor Dave Scalise is truly a superior book. It puts the competition with their banks of questions and dry explanations to shame. After purchasing several tedious LSAT test prep books, I came upon The LSAT Advantage by chance; the cover appealed to me. Between the covers is the most extraordinary test preparation program! It actually simulates a course in LSAT preparation and does so in an engaging, lighthearted manner. But the subject matter, especially the tough analytical reasoning section, is presented in a serious and systematic fashion, in a way that I was finally able to master the material. My highest recommendation to anyone preparing for the LSAT. This is the only book you'll need.
