The LUVCart is not powerful/durable enough for home use.,

This review is from: LUVcartcc-LUV01A Silver Edition Premium Motorized Lawn Utility Vehicle (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased the LUVCart hoping that it would be a great tool for doing small jobs around the house such as moving pea gravel, dirt, and moving items back and forth from the house to my vehicle. However the LUVCart failed almost immediately after being purchased. The LUVCart is a great idea, and the plastic tub that holds material seems to be fairly well constructed. The weak point seems to be the motor and circuitry. The LUVCart only operated for me for less than an hour before it stopped working and would not restart. Even while it was in operation it strained under the very small load of pea gravel in its bucket, and the bucket was not even half full. The 5 cubic foot of material that the LUVCart is capable of handling is a wild exaggeration unless you only want to haul 5 cubic feet of grass clippings or dry leaves.

I purchased my cart from Amazon a good 6 months ago and have been working the cart hard. I was a little concerned because I hadn't heard of the LUVcart before, but I have to say my little buddy has done everything I have asked of it and more. I love it, it is one of the best tools I have every owned. I just finished spreading 12 cubic yards of mulch over 1 acre with my LUVcart without any problem. I normally do not write these type of reviews, but after seeing some of the other comments I felt like I should tell folks how great the cart really is.

Great Little Garden Cart,

I love my little cart. Zips around on flat surfaces great, a bit awkward on slopes but still better than dragging a cart around by myself. One of the wheels keeps coming off, the only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating.

I love the fact it'll allow the boys to help me work in the yard...it is not that much use for carrying really bog loads...but I'm kind of glad that I can't haul such heavy stuff around even if I wanted too...it runs on a charge for a long time...and has so far shown no problems doing what I've asked it to do..

I bought this item because I've been having back trouble and have lots of hauling (gravel, bark mulch, firewood) to do on my large property. This little workhorse handled everything I threw at it (staying within the weight limit) and never complained -- until, however, it simply quit after about two dozen loads. Now I'm worried that I'll have a big repair bill. Overall, though, I love this cart. I find the reverse and low-speed forward pretty useless (since it's fairly easy to push manually for short distances), but at high speed, it's truly a worksaver over long distances. I was able to put in extended hours of yardwork with considerably less back strain than using a wheelbarrow, and the charge would hold all day. Peg in Portland

I bought this cart for my wife to help with heavy loads of bags of mulch and dirt she needed to move to the various areas of our property where we have shrub and flower beds as well as a large brick planter wall encircling our patio. To move the loads by hand or by wheel barrow is not the type of work we can do anymore without days of pain.
My wife loves this cart and has been using it for the last 5 days. She has already thanked me more times for this cart than she did for her Mercedes. The cart is easy to drive and has two comfortable forward speeds and a reverse. It runs well on our grass. We have not loaded the cart to its 200 lb stated capacity but it has readily handled 120 lbs without any apparent strain on the motors or drive mechanisms. It is also very easy to tilt forward to dump. We have thus far been careful with the cart not to run into any large ruts or obstructions because we do not what to expect of its durability. While our our experience with the cart has been limited, our impression thus far is that it is well worth the $230 it cost us. We will try to update this review should events warrant. UPDATE AS OF TODAY, APRIL 16, 2009: Today we used our LUVcart to haul about 30 bags of dirt and mulch from my wife's SUV to our backyard. After two years of lawn work and an occasional moving of other items too heavy for one of us to carry, our LUVcart is still working fine. We kept the cart in the garage through both winters, and gave the cart a 24 hour charge several times each winter to keep the battery in shape. As a result, after two years, the battery remains strong when fully charged and I could not detect any reduction in the length of service before recharging. We did have a problem last year when plugging in the battery charger it quickly overheated and threw a few sparks into the air as if there was a short circuit. Also, the tires developed small undetectable leaks which required us to reinflate the tires before use. We had a little difficulty finding where and how to get replacement parts. Apparently, there were a number of redesigned internal components since we bought our cart as well as a change in ownership of the manufacturer. Once finally contacted, the company gladly sent us replacements and did not even question our date of purchase to verify the warranty was still in effect. Because of the "few minor redesigned components", we received a large box of replacement parts and instructions including new tires already mounted on the wheels and inflated to the proper pressures. They practically replaced every component except for the barrow itself. Replacing all the parts was about a 1 hr job, mostly because I work slowly when I follow the instructions. After this fix, it ran fine for the remainder of the year and ran strong when we used it today. I am now conflicted on what the rating I should assign the cart because my wife and I very much appreciate the cart's utility, and while we had some problems, the manufacturer was extremely responsive in making things right. So, I think I will leave the rating at five stars and see what happens during the rest of 2009. Amazon indicates that the cart is no longer available. If this is true, I think some other retired folks like my wife and I will be missing out on a valuable tool that helps compensate for the strength age tends to take from you. I do have one suggestion for the manufacturer. Change the name! Luvcart implies that there is some level of human interaction that takes place in the cart. While I suppose this is possible, I think it is highly unlikely and therefore the chosen name may not be truly reflective of the more utilitarian purpose of the cart. UPDATE AS OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2009 I see that this product is still no longer available at Amazon. Accordingly, this is my last update. We have coninued to use this cart for a number of jobs from the Spring of 2009 to September of 2009. The cart continues to operate without any further problems except the tires need some air occasionally. My wife remains very happy that I got this for her to use in her gardening. I am also glad we bought it because occasionally I need to move something too heavy for me to carry any distance. My wife and I are both dissappointed that the cart is no longer available because it continues to serve us well. If someone finds this cart available on another website, we continue to endorse it.

I love my LUV cart. I bought the Silver edition about a year ago. It hauls the "heavy" loads that have gotten a bit too hard for me. I filled it with sand (200 lbs) and ran it across thick grass without a problem. Women will love it. Men who aren't afraid of not looking "macho" would find it very helpful around the house.

I LOVE IT!!!
I enjoy gardening but dread dealing with the heavy items: soil, compost, concrete, plants, mulch, etc. In the past I've tried everything from pushing to pulling to dragging, from wheelbarrows to utility carts and hand trucks. In every case the wheels sank into my wet grass/soil and hung up on stepping stones, etc. And don't even mention turns! I put 120lbs (3 bags) of compost in the LUVcart and away we went! All I had to do was walk with it. It went from my paved drive to the grass with ease. It zipped across wet grass, slightly boggy soil, and stepping stones with ease. It zoomed right along my narrow, winding paths and maneuvered with unbelievable ease around that 90 degree turn I designed into the path by mistake (I have great difficulty getting anything else around that turn!). When we got to the handful of small (1" or less) branches I had pruned and left in the path earlier, I expected it to balk, but it drove right over them as if they were not even there! I can't begin to tell you how easily it turns and maneuvers. I assembled it in the kitchen, then realized that in order to get out the back door it needed to be turned around completely (180deg) but there was almost no space in which to execute the turn. I thought that I would need to do the usual back-up, pull up, haul, drag, lift, struggle, "woman-handle", etc. Nope! Because the front wheel spins 360deg, the cart can virtually turn completely around in place and with ease! I had some concerns about whether it might be heavy, clunky, and difficult to push and maneuver manually (without power). No problem at all. It is surprisingly easy to push without power. As I said, I assembled it in my kitchen, turned it around 180deg in place without power assist and maneuvered over the threshold, out the door and down the step without power assist. Since I did not have to lift the back (as with wheel barrow), I found it easier than dealing with my garden cart even without the power assist. I simply LOVE it! I'm thinking about all the things I lugged around the garden/yard over the years and how long I looked at that stack of compost in the drive and dreaded the mere thought of dragging those bags around the yard. I only wish that I had not waited this long to find and buy this cart. It was well worth the cost. In the past, I have paid the kid next door $50 just to haul some edging bricks around the yard for me. Now, as long as it comes in increments of less than 200lbs and fits in my LUVcart, I can do it myself without strain or hassle! Receipt and Assembly: It arrived very quickly, a week or so ahead of the estimate. The box was marked heavy, but the individual parts were not heavy. The instruction book was well written and easy to follow. I was particularly impressed with the color-coded packs of hardware which meant I did not have to figure out which screw or bolt went where. It was MUCH easier to assemble than I would have thought. In 30 minutes I had it all together and ready to charge. I only had one problem: on mine the holes on the battery cover did not line up well and, thus, required a nasty fight. Everything else was a breeze to assemble. Be advised, however, that I just got mine. I've only used it once. I cannot comment on how well it will hold up over time, but it appears to be well made. |
