5.0 out of 5 stars LYCCYX is worth the time! May 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I am so busy anymore that it's difficult to make time for reading - one of my favorite things to do. I look for fast paced stories that are not crazy long. With LYCCYX, that's exactly what I got. It's a fun, fast paced sci-fi thriller that I found a bit unnerving. I think a sign of a good story is one that leaves you thinking about it the next day, and that's what I got from this story. In theory, we have performance enhancers now. We have big debates about it in our sports, our aging process, etc. No doubt, totally tempting - but how much should we really tinker with nature. Or is it there to be tinkered with? Anyway, this is part of a series so I look forward to more.

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD ENTRY TITLE June 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
LYCCYX Episode 1 is a decent entry title into the series. It has a really good premise and some very interesting plot twists. For the price and the pace it is a good read for sci-fi fans. I wish however that there was more character development and more investment into the background of the issues taking place in the story. I felt that it was a little rushed in that way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea... September 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to admit that the story seems more like an outline than a short story. I could definitely see this story being a good comic book series as it's fast paced and somewhat pulp-ish in nature. As it's dealing with a future setting as well as a slight horror element of the virus, I was expecting more in either one of those realms. Again, this would be a good comic book rather than a simple short prose story. I wanted more flushing out of the characters and definitely more of character backgrounds for everyone. Didn't really get a sense of personalities. However, I would still like to continue on and see what Barber has in store for his world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
LYCCYX is a fun, easy read. The entire book is perfect for a quick read, but if you have a short attention span...LYCCYX is broken down into short sections.

As a fan of science-fiction, it's nice to get a fresh perspective.

You won't regret the dollar you spend!!

5.0 out of 5 stars LYCCYX 1 June 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Excellent book visually stunning in it's description of the Lunar grit underfoot & the awkwardness of trying to work in no gravity in Space suits made me feel I was right there in the uncomfortable situation. I'm not fond of short stories as they just get going good & they end so am really looking forward to the sequel. The plot was believable. Corporations rarely do anything good without their own motives being somewhere in the situation. Though be warned the plot does take a right turn in a virus being grown that changes our DNA still I can't wait to see where this goes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fast, fun read May 6, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The perfect book for my morning commute. A great read and a good concept. I like that the future presented in the book is actually plausible. It's almost too fast for me, I wanted to know more about everything which is why I just bought the second one.

5.0 out of 5 stars An short, but intense, space adventure. March 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Imagine the Earth 50 years ahead. What would it be like? What would have fallen apart?

In the future created author Brian Barber, the Earth has reached a new level of existence. Our planet is overcrowded, resources are diminishing and we can no longer deny that our time on this planet may be limited as we know it. With combined efforts, young captain Luke Xander goes out with his crew for this new planet - a mission to understand exactly. Yet...before he leaves, he picks up a strange, foreign coin, found in the distant sands beyond his training camp.

The coin forgotten, and the mission begun, Luke experiences a disaster where all but a handful return from the mission. The others? They have changed...and now, Luke and his team have no choice but to return to outer space, so they can destroy them.

The book LYCCYX is the first episode of a novella series by Brian Barber. I was captivated by the slight-dystopian representation of Earth and I felt that the writer got close with this one. I love science fiction stories where I can actually envision something like that happening to our society.

The story is brief and is meant to be that way. Because of that, I didn't feel to overwhelmed with the space travel, which is important to me, because I have gotten lost before while reading about science fiction that includes heavy duty adventures in outer space. Also, I didn't get confused by the science. I didn't have the need to go back and re-read sections because I didn't understand them.

I loved the character development and the relationship the main character had with his immediate family members and his girlfriend. While this is considered a Young Adult novel, I thought this could reach anyone at any age.
