3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD ENTRY TITLE June 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
LYCCYX Episode 1 is a decent entry title into the series. It has a really good premise and some very interesting plot twists. For the price and the pace it is a good read for sci-fi fans. I wish however that there was more character development and more investment into the background of the issues taking place in the story. I felt that it was a little rushed in that way.

5.0 out of 5 stars LYCCYX is worth the time! May 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I am so busy anymore that it's difficult to make time for reading - one of my favorite things to do. I look for fast paced stories that are not crazy long. With LYCCYX, that's exactly what I got. It's a fun, fast paced sci-fi thriller that I found a bit unnerving. I think a sign of a good story is one that leaves you thinking about it the next day, and that's what I got from this story. In theory, we have performance enhancers now. We have big debates about it in our sports, our aging process, etc. No doubt, totally tempting - but how much should we really tinker with nature. Or is it there to be tinkered with? Anyway, this is part of a series so I look forward to more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea... September 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to admit that the story seems more like an outline than a short story. I could definitely see this story being a good comic book series as it's fast paced and somewhat pulp-ish in nature. As it's dealing with a future setting as well as a slight horror element of the virus, I was expecting more in either one of those realms. Again, this would be a good comic book rather than a simple short prose story. I wanted more flushing out of the characters and definitely more of character backgrounds for everyone. Didn't really get a sense of personalities. However, I would still like to continue on and see what Barber has in store for his world.

2.0 out of 5 stars Deeply Disappointing June 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This reads like the outline of a book but totally lacks development of plot or characters. When full length novels can be purchased for 99 cents, buying this 48 page "episode" for that price seems like a ripoff. Frankly, even for free it would have been a poor investment of the reader's time. Not recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Has potential, but needs some work June 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
***Warning - Review may contain spoilers***

I agree with another reviewer, that if you approach this as a short story you will have a better experience reading it. There is almost no character development, which is unfortunate for a story that centers around a virus that alters people based on their character. Also, a major plot point which keeps the main character alive centers around some contrived circumstances that are extremely implausible. Both of those things are a little more forgivable if you assume the author has a limited number of words to work with.

There are also a couple of sections where the narration switches from past tense to present tense for a sentence or two. This was probably just overlooked in the editing, but it interrupted the flow of the reading whenever it happened as I stopped to figure out what was going on.

I had enough issues with this story that I will not be continuing the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent August 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
LYCCYX is a fun, easy read. The entire book is perfect for a quick read, but if you have a short attention span...LYCCYX is broken down into short sections.

As a fan of science-fiction, it's nice to get a fresh perspective.

You won't regret the dollar you spend!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good short story! I just wanted a little more. January 16, 2013
By Kay
Format:Kindle Edition
This book has an interesting and different plot that I haven't come across before, and I always love a new story idea. I really liked the idea of the virus LYCCYX and what it does to those that are infected. At first I thought it would be too hard to follow with all the acronyms, but I turned out to be wrong. It gives us an interesting take on the future and what could happen if we ran out of resources.

I recommend this book to those of you that are a reader that likes a quick book, especially if you are into sci-fi dystopian type stories. This was good for a short story and for those looking for a quick read. I think you will enjoy it even more if you are in the military or like those kinds of books.

I liked the different ways the story was told, through letters, and like a journal that the main character is keeping. I'm always open to new writing styles and I enjoyed the way Barber wrote this story.

As for the character development, there really wasn't any, except for the main character. Kate is just randomly mentioned, I think she should have been worked into the plot a little more. I guess I was just hoping for more. I wanted more descriptions of the planet and station and everything else. I know it is a shorter story and meant to move quickly, but at times I felt like it moved a little too quickly, not enough time passed before things started to get crazy. It was still a good short story, but I stand by my opinion that I think there should have been more character development and descriptions.

The writing isn't always the best, but it's still good. No one can be perfect. At times I really loved what I read, there were some really well written sentences that caught my attention, and other times I thought that it could use slight a tune up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept.
It was a good beginning. Interested in seeing how it continues. I like the idea of the nanovirus enhancing who the person is. It reminds me a little of Doom in that aspects.
