This review is from: THE LYNDON TECHNIQUE: The 15 Guideline Map To Booking Handbook (Perfect Paperback)
Amy's book is a breezy 55 pages long, but outlines an excellent approach to the audition. In teaching acting for the camera, I use a modified Meisner technique best articulated in Jeremiah Comey's book The Art of Film Acting: A Guide For Actors and Directors. For the audition, Comey recommends going back to a more theatrical approach. To teach the acting technique, he focuses actors on the emotion in the other actor in order to achieve liberation from the strict confines of the dialogue and a superficial performance of "playing on the nose." In Lyndon's book, I find a parallel in the audition situation. She focuses actors on the emotional quality of the character to keep them from in her words "picking up the energy of the room" or "to stay in scene." Both approaches focus on the key acting element of emotion, one drawing from the other actor and in auditions from the character's emotional state. Her 15 lessons are well outlined, short but potent. I particularly liked her insight on why casting directors frequently read in a flat monotone and also her discussion of differences between auditioning for film and for television. I would recommend the book for actors trying to increase their booking percentage. Enjoy!

This review is from: THE LYNDON TECHNIQUE: The 15 Guideline Map To Booking Handbook (Perfect Paperback)
This book is an absolute must-have for anyone who is serious about working as an actor -- especially in film and TV. Amy Lyndon has created practical guidelines to help you break down your audition materials, and be as prepared as humanly possible when you head into the audition room. Since applying her technique, I feel so much more prepared and in control! Her book is written in terms any actor, at any level, can easily understand and apply. She writes in a way that you feel like you're getting a positive and firm push in the right direction. She writes like a coach. Get this book, and you will highlight it, dog-ear it, and keep it with you forever! I will!
