Product Description

L.A. is a city of dreams, palm trees, endless sunshine and celebrity. Isn’t that enough reason to explain why I never-ever-ever wanted to come back here ever again? This is the place of my trauma and the place I never believed I would revisit except occasionally for the holidays and a once a decade trip to Disneyland.
Now that I am in L.A. I am attempting to create a literary life even though I am in the suburbs of Valencia. The Writing in Valencia series is one part memoir and one part instruction for would be writers.
The Thursdays with Igor posts are how I manage my L.A. loathing, through weekly visits with my Beverly Hills psychoanalyst. The 365 things that don't suck about L.A. series is my attempt to find a few things I don't hate about this town I am unhappily calling home.

Kindle blogs are fully downloaded onto your Kindle so you can read them even when you're not wirelessly connected. And unlike RSS readers which often only provide headlines, blogs on Kindle give you full text content and images, and are updated wirelessly throughout the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars What the "Rag Trade" Wrought..., October 9, 2009
By
This review is from: La Belette Rouge (Kindle Edition)
I have been reading "La Belette Rouge" since its author was typing her way out of the heat and her sense of confinement in Austin, Texas, eighteen months ago, knowing that she and her beloved He-Weasel had to move, once again. I stumbled upon her engaging blog initially because of its interest in all things French but I stayed because of a little girl, an only child of older parents deeply entrenched in the "rag trade." I had no expectations, perhaps even low expectations, of a blog that spoke of fashion, football, and (in)fertility but that little girl celebrating Christmas with palm trees and highball-holding businessparents at the cocktail hour beneath the mistletoe had me by the throat from the get-go.

So, like the rapt readers of Britain's "penny dreadfuls," France's "feuilletons," and the Wild West's "dime novels,", I keep showing up with my time and energy for every installment wondering what La Belette Rouge's fearless protagonist has discovered on the psychological, emotional, spiritual, biological, cultural, or literary front today. The woman writes so entertainingly well that she can ensnare even me into reading about "Fashion." Try her. You'll love her.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blog worth getting a Kindle for!, October 4, 2009
By
This review is from: La Belette Rouge (Kindle Edition)
La Belette Rouge - part confessional, part comedy is one of the most compelling blogs I know. I was immediately absorbed - on first visit - by Ms. Bel's ability to make my heart hurt and sides split simultaneously. She is remarkably candid about her struggles with fertility, about her challenges growing up, about her fractured relationship with her mother, about the love she shares with her husband and dog-hter Lily - not to mention her connection to La Belle Provence and her hatred of the greater LA region. I look forward to her posts tremendously - in the way, I imagine, Victorian audiences awaited serials in their daily papers. I only hope she publishes a book soon because everyone I know will be getting that for Christmas!
