I purchased this to replace the rain sensor for my La Crosse weather station. However, when I connected it up and tried to pair it with the weather station it did not work. So, I went through some diagnostics. First I checked the batteries and found them OK, then I checked the connecting pads and found the one in the battery door was missing. I simply replaced it with the one from the defective sensor and now it works. So, if you purchase this check to see there is a battery connecting pad in the cover. I don't know if Amazon reads this but if they do they should check their stock to see if others are like this. Otherwise it works fine and is a good price.

I purchased the sensor to replace the one for my La Crosse weather station. The one I had did not work. This sensor was easy to set-up and functions as advertised. Would buy again if needed.

A bit difficult to set up. But that is the nature of the La Crosse base unit that uses this rain sensor. Clearing the accumulated total and seeing the report is a bit of a pain.

This from La Crosse:
RESET TOTAL RAINFALL: In normal display mode, press the MIN/MAX key 14 times to show the Total Rainfall value. The RESET icon will also be shown at the same time.
To Reset the Rainfall reading, press the PLUS key once when the rainfall value and Reset icon is shown. Then the Total Rainfall amount will be reset to 0, and the time updated to current time. 24-hour Rain cannot be reset.

I did not get much use out of the sensor since Texas had quite the drought and the base unit's display failed in less than a year. See my review on the WS-1913TWC if you are curious.

I added this to my weather station when my old rain gauge (made by Oregon Scientific)stopped transmitting after about 5 years. Since I had the base station of this product and the rain gauge was an inexpensive addition, it made sense to me. It works, but the base station defaults to barometric pressure and won't stay on the rainfall (which is mode 2). There's no way that I have found to keep it there which would be my preference. Also, there's no easy way to get the rainfall to reset to 0 without pulling the batteries on everything and resetting the entire unit. My previous rain gauge kept track of 10 days at a time. This one will keep a running total and 24 hours but with no reset button I find it more difficult to use for what I wanted. So, if you want to know daily rainfall but forget to look each day, this product will be a disappointment.

Addendum 10/4/11 - The rain gauge has stopped working. I replaced all batteries and it is no longer transmitting. I guess the old adage is true - you get what you pay for and $19.95 wasn't much and didn't buy much. Very disappointing.

Purchased this rain bucket for my father to go with his weather station for Christmas. He got it set up, it worked great, but not even a week later it quit working. He tried resetting the station called the manufacture for tech support and never was able to get it working again. Since he had it over the warranty period...was sitting under the Christmas Tree. He was not able to return for a refund. He could send back for warranty work but would have to pay for shipping. Very disappointed in the quality and customer service. Can not and will not recommend any product form this company.

This device is difficult to pair with the receiver. When I finally got it paired and mounted it outside it worked well for a while and the readings compared well with my tube rain gauge. Then after a couple of months it failed to transmit. I replace batteries and tried to pair it again with the receiver but was never able to make it work. I then ordered another gauge and it worked for a month and failed. I will never order anything else from La Crosse.

This is my third rain bucket. For unknown reasons, it fails to operate after about one season (read one year). But the design is clever: Collecting rain, funneling to a two sided collector which fills, lowers to empty, bringing the other side to be filled. This rocking motion is sensed and transmitted to a base station. Simple and effective. Just too bad it doesn't last longer.
