I had this station for 2 days now. I will try to review it as accurate as I can.

Cons:

1- Cannot download any data into a computer

2- Since (1) is true, the only data that is displayed is the last reading for all sensors, in addition to the min/max for all the sensors (except the rain gauge) since they were last reset.

3- Initial setup is somewhat complicated especially with very little instructions.

4- Initial setup takes sometime

5- The outdoor temperature sensor is supposed to be in the shade, yet it is also supposed to be facing southward so it could collect light that is needed for its solar panel (this is what the instructions say!!!!)

6- the buttons on the unit are hard to press (but you will not be using them a lot)

Pros:

1- Wireless distance seems to be accurate ~300ft

2- All the equipment seems to be as good as the ones I saw when I set up a $3000 weather station for a university research project.

3- you can add more sensor as you start needing them (if you need to check the micro climates for example)

4- I have not explored the alarm function yet, but it looks real good with many options. I will update the review once I explore that.

Summery:

If you do not need weather station that logs data of a certain interval (every minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour, etc.) , and do not care for or want to be able to download any data for analysis into a weather program (on your computer) then this weather station is fabulous. It has everything, it might take a bit of time to set it up but it is worth it.

I hope this will help you all who are looking at this weather station.

Layth

I bought this for my father who lives on the Outer Banks. It has been up and running trouble free for nearly 2 years. I set it up for him and thought that part was fairly simple. You will need a level and a compass and knowledge of the degree of declination between true and magnetic north for your region. The only problems we have had is, blackbirds like to think the rain gauge is their personal potty. We fixed this by putting a flimsy wire over the bucket.

The up side: a fairly accurate reliable weather station at a low price.

The down side: if you want to know how fast that last gust of wind was, this unit won't do it. It takes readings periodically so you only get a reading every so many minutes. If you want real time readings you can't go wireless without dropping some serious money.

All things being equal he likes it, I like it, and it has survived 2 years of salt air environment and 2 hurricanes so, it aint too shabby.

Have had the La Crosse WS-2010 for three years now. It has performed without problems and I feel accurate enough to support a personal web site weather report. Important part is to ensure all sensors are Not impacted by outside sources. Wind guage not sheltered for 360 degrees. Outdoor temp probe is shaded from direct sunlight and no reflective heat from walls, sidewalks and other items. Does Not need direct light to keep the battery charged. Rain guage is very accurate but needs to be installed per the instructions. And kept clear of debrie [leaves, etc..] Optional PC interface provides real time storage and history of weather events on your PC. Second party software supports additional graphics and uploadable weather data to the internet, home page or Weather channel sites.

Cons: Instructions read like they were written in the far east and translated in the far west. Difficult to understand many of the steps until you experience trial and error setup. Don't lose the Instructions....

I have a WS 2010 weather station that the coin batteries in the instruments have died after three years service. The same thing was reported by Gary Woltkamp. When purchising a weather station you want to make sure the batteries are a replaceable item.

I ordered this unit 2 years ago. Now the wind speed unit no longer works because the battery is bad. Called the service unit at La Crosse about getting a new battery, they said to order a new wind speed indicator at $100, as no replacement battery was available. If you have a bad battery in your 2 year old Lexus would you junk it and get a new car! Of course not, you would replace the bad battery and drive it for another 10 years. Order from La Crosse only if you expect the unit to last 2 years and no help from their service dept. Typical of items made in China, no service aviable, if it goes bad buy a new one and help the Chinese economy and to hell with the U.S.A. and their people.

I have to say, when I bought this item I was so happy. I didn't sleep well when I ordered it because I was so ansy to test this out. I even live in an apartment and my landlord found me a spot for my sensors. GREAT Product thats all I can say...only thing bad about it is the 3 minute update but thats still alright. I'm getting over that. LOL So far no really bad issues and all my friends love it.

GREAT JOB! Great Buy!
