I bought this unit and it worked great for about two weeks. Set up went well and everything worked without any connection problems. Unlike the 2 previous weather stations I purchased from them, this shows wind gusts which is a feature I wanted. But after two weeks the wind sensor quit working. I following the instructions and reset all the units but without success. Called La Crosse and was able to get through and actually speak with someone (although it took several attempts, I always got the message all service people are with other customers). I gave the model number to the tech and he said "oh, the wind sensor isn't working" even before I told him what the problem was. He admitted they are "having problems" with the wind sensor (as another here mentioned). They would not send me out a replacement until I reset the unit. I explained to him I had already done that but he insisted and I thought well...maybe. (Since another reviewer stated they don't have replacements, it may have just been a stall tactic.) Anyway, it didn't work, now I can't get through to a person and after leaving messages they still have not returned my call. I emailed them as well, was given a support request number but never heard back from them. It's been almost a month now since I first called.

I should have known not to buy one of these. If you see my other reviews you'll find I have already purchased 2 weather stations from La Crosse and both failed. But when I saw this one at Costco I thought since it was completely different than the models I had before maybe they are better. They aren't.

It's a roll of the dice buying from La Crosse.

Do not buy the La Crosse Technology WS-2810U-IT until you have searched online for problems with this unit. In brief, the rain gauge reads approximately double the actual amount of rainfall and there are problems with other sensors as well. Buyer beware!!!

I was very happy with the looks of the unit, but I could not get the solar powered wind meter to work. I spent days online with the manufacturer. I finally had to pay to return the unit and just got the replacement. The wind unit will not function and the rain unit will not function. I am afraid the unit is just to fragile to handle shipping and may not be tested before it is shipped. All in all I am afraid I wasted the Boy Scouts money and will look for a better weather station.

Nice unit when it worked. After a bit of rain water got into the wind unit and corroded/shortcircuited the sensor. The response from LaCrosse was a constant exchange of e-mails with colored, big-font questions and admonitions about batteries (which brand, how old, etc) but no real resolution. I am now left with the unit that has no wind sensor.
Also, the software to transfer data to the PC is (again) nice when it works. Almost every time when the computer is put on standby the synchronization with the weather unit drops (which is understandable) but when the computer wakes up re-synchronization either happens with a long delay(tens of minutes or even hours) or does not happen at all requiring manual resynchronization. Even worse is the situation when the central unit loses communication with temperature, rainfall or wind sensors. To re-establish communication, LaCrosse requires to take out all batteries, put them in a specific order and jump through hoops.

I received my LaCrosse Technology Wireless Weather Station today. I opened the box, popped in the batteries and as soon as I turned on the console, the devices were already synced up. I mounted the hydro-thermal sensor on the back deck, put the wind sensor on a pole and lined it up to true south using my iPhone compass, and set out the rain gauge. Setup took all of 10 minutes, and the device has been sending accurate data from the moment it was turned on. I am completely amazed at how easy it was. The USB receiver was recognized by my computer without a problem and it was no trouble to use the Heavy Weather software. This just isn't how my life goes, ya know? I am giving this device as many stars as it will let me because of the stress-free install, the LCD console his HUGE and looks great, and there are no wires to deal with. Awesome!

I have owned several types and brands of these weather stations and I must say this one is the best I have owned. I really like the fact that it is truly wireless and is very accurate when being compared to local noaa weather stations. Its low maintenance and batteries last a long time. The pc link that allows you to download data to the software is a really nice feature. Setup is relatively easy, but does require you to actually read the instructions to ensure you are not placing sensors to far away and setting things up correctly!

I set this up with careful attention to the instructions included with the unit. Initially, my results were unsatisfactory. Once the temperature dipped much below freezing, it quit working. I checked the cold battery voltage and it was well more than the published 1.5 volts for the batteries. With warm batteries, however, all sensors transmitted and the receiving units both did their jobs.

With a 200 foot range for each of the transmitters, TECHNICALLY, your wind sensor COULD be 400 feet away from the base unit (200' to the thermo-hygro sensor/200' to the base unit); FUNCTIONALLY that's unadulterated puppy poop. I don't know what the operational environment the claimed 200' was, but across a 200' open field at 15 degrees farenheit was clearly not the trial environment.

I pulled the sensors in closer and now have an eighty five foot distance from the rain gauge and the anenometer to the thermo-hygro sensor and another 30' to the base unit; everything works well.

While not 'as advertised' as far as the distances the transmitters will broadcast, I am satisfied with my WS-2810U-IT
