Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Be prepared for a wet weekend with cozy and this wireless forecast station. From La Crosse Technology, the WS-9049U forecast station anticipates weather conditions with outdoor temperature and barometric pressure data. The forecast is depicted with three different weather icons and tendency arrows. For exact time, the forecast station’s time and date reset daily via WWVB radio transmissions from the US Atomic Clock. The forecast station also illustrates the moon’s phase and presents barometric pressure history for the past 24 hours in a bar graph.

The forecast station’s receiver wall mounts or stands alone with a fold-out stand. In addition to moon, forecast, and barometric information, the LCD screen relays 12- or 24-hour time, date, day of week, alarm time, indoor comfort level icon, and outdoor and indoor temperatures and humidity levels. The forecast station measures indoor temperatures ranging from 14.2 to 139.8 degrees F, outdoor temperatures from -39.8 to +139.8 degrees F, and relative humidity from 1 to 99 percent. Located below the LCD on the receiver, five function buttons enable the user to select Fahrenheit or Celsius readings, choose the appropriate time zone, disable the auto DST, set the alarm, engage the ten-minute snooze function, and check the minimum and maximum temperatures. The provided TX29UDTH-IT thermo-hygro sensor communicates at a 915 MHz frequency from up to 330 feet away. Up to three sensors work with this system. For accurate readings, mount the sensor out of direct rain or sunlight. The separate purchase of two AA and two C batteries is required. A limited one-year warranty covers this item. The forecast station receiver measures 7-1/5 inches wide by 1-1/2 inches deep by 7-2/5 inches high. The sensor measures 1-1/2 inches wide by 5/6 inch deep by 5 inches high.

It worked for a week and then quit.

The temperature and humidity portion of this unit works very, both the indoor and outdoor. The real problem is in the barometric pressure readings. I have had two of these units and both failed in the same manner. They work well for about five days the start displaying erratic pressure readings then displays only dashes for the pressure. I have contacted LaCrosse service and they gave me a list of things to check, which I did. Nothing helped. They then suggested that I return the unit to them at my expense and they would try to find the problem, no guarantees. I did not feel that I should send a new defective unit to LaCrosse service at my expense, so I have returned it to Amazon for a refund. Be aware of this unit.

Do not purchase this weather station, Model WS 9049U-IT-AL!! We bought one. It worked for a week and then quit. La Crosse instructed me to ship it back to them. I did. It cost me $12.03. ( which they say they don't cover even thought it is their faulty product.) They sent me another model of a weather station because they said they were no longer producing the first model. This new model was too large and unacceptable to us. It was sent back to La Crosse. They paid for this shipment.

I contacted Amazon and they sent me another of Model WS 9049U-IT-AL. It worked for a week and then started erroneously behaving just like the first one. I sent it back to Amazon and got a refund from Amazon, but I am still out the $12.03 postage.

We purchased this weather station primarily to track our indoor humidity. This product seems to be accurate in tracking both indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity. Unfortunately, like most of the other reviewers of this product, the pressure sensor never did work for us. It is quite time consuming process to set up the remote sensor and the base unit. We did this several times changing out batteries each time, but we only continued to get the annoying flash of horizontal lines where the pressure reading should display. We don't actually need the barometric reading, but since we paid for those extra sensors I expect it to work.

I entered into an email correspondence with LaCrosse, but as the other reviewers have noted, they expect me to send back the unit at my expense so they can try to get it to work. The least they could do is offer to reimburse me for postage if this is a manufacturing flaw - as I presume it is since so many people have experienced the same problem. Given LaCrosse's expectation that I spend money to get them to fix their problem, I will probably never buy another of their products.

I like the style of this weather station but the barometer quit working after one week. I would suggest looking for a different model.

The product functioned ok for a few weeks, then stopped showing part of the display. Returning it to La Crosse verified that the item had a defect. La Crosse is providing a replacement which has not arrived at this time. The product design and appearance are very good. The display is easily readable. Price is considered reasonable.

The temperatures were right on inside and out but as with other reviewers I had trouble with the barometric pressure. It flatlined for weeks. this wasnt a feature i was particularly interested in as Im not even sure how to interpret it; but the ones with moon phases all seem to have it, so I contacted LaCrosse and tried everything they recommended and still nothing. SO the asked if i would like to wait for it on backorder or choose the option of replacement unit which wasobviously a more expensive model. Their customer service was outstanding. They were quick and responsive. I didnt like that i had to pay to ship it back but I imagine i would have had to with Amazon as well and it think it only cost me around $7 to return it, which more than made up for the nicer unit i got in return, which works very well. The displays could use a boost in brightness or contrast so i recommend putting it somewhere with good light. I would by from this company again just because of their customer service.

I bought it in spite of the negative reviews that I saw. I was thinking, it can't be this bad, maybe people didn't do it right.
However, every comment was spot on:
Correct, after almost exacly 2 weeks the barometer stopped working completely. The snowstorm was whipping through New York City, and the display showed a happy sun with no clouds at all, the pressure reading unchanged ever since then.
Correct, the outdoor sensor lost contact with the main unit after a couple of days, even though I had it within 20% of the range that it was built for. Even if I had the sensor right next to the main unit on the kitchen table, it did not pick up the signal afterwards....
Correct, the atomic clock in Colorado only reached this unit sometimes if you put the main unit right near the window.

This is too bad, because I really, really liked the design. Temperature in celsius or fahrenheit, inside and outside temperature with humidity levels, and a nice display for the barometric / atmospheric pressure. The time and the calendar as an added bonus.
But if it doesn't work, what good does that do me?

So please, save the aggrevation, and don't buy it.
My compliments to the seller, they were very quick and refunded my money without asking questions. They did not even ask for the weather station to be sent back to them.
