More About the Author

Dante Alighieri was born in 1265 in Florence. His family, of minor nobility, was not wealthy nor especially distinguished; his mother died when he was a child, his father before 1283. At about the age of 20 he married Gemma Donati, by whom he had three children. Little is known of Dante's formal education-it is likely to have included study with the Dominicans, the Augustinians, and the Franciscans in Florence, and at the university in Bologna. In 1295 he entered Florentine politics and in the summer of 1300 he became one of the six governing Priors of Florence. In 1301, the political situation forced Dante and his party into exile. For the rest of his life he wandered through Italy, perhaps studied at Paris, while depending for refuge on the generosity of various nobles. He continued to write and at some point late in life he took asylum in Ravenna where he completed the Divine Commedia and died, much honoured, in 1321.

Although there is no break in the sequence of page numbers from page 18 to page 19, this edition actually omits two cantos of Dante's poem: from the end of Canto V to the middle of Canto VII.

(This is probably the worst translation of Dante's Masterpiece.) No mantiene ni texto ni estilo. (It maintains neither text nor style.) (This book is more of a summary, and a bad one at that.) (This book does not include important passages from the original work.)

This text is the shorter version, each canto is shorter than the original and they skip canto 6 7 and 8.

Everybody should read this masterpiece, is really interesting!! I studied it many years ago at school but now I re-read again because I am going to do a play on stage.... After 700 hundred years this book is such current...in this work Dante discuss about all humanity with its misfortunes and magnificences, passions and struggles.... He said "il mondo che mal vive" and he wanted to redeem this world with this work and I think is perfect for today!
I apologize for my english!

It's worth the buy. It is well constructed. Many Roman Catholic Bible studies are using and familiarizing Spanish speaking members to use it.
