The design of these shoes is superb. I live next to some of the steepest mountains in the US. From May to October, I try to do at least one 5000' ascent every weekend. The Omegas performed great on talus, scree, sand, and mud. The narrow last was great for up-climbing but where these shoes really shined was in steep descents. I have never felt more sure-footed descending 30-40% grades.

However, the construction quality proved to be a massive disappointment. Six weeks after I got my first pair of Omegas, they failed on me at the worse possible time. I was descending a quartzite talus field at around 10,600' when I felt something pop in my right shoe. I looked down and discovered that the inside metal eyelets at the toe of the shoe had torn free and, simultaneously, the seam on the outside of the toe had ripped open. At this point, I still had 4400' of descent to the trailhead (including 1600' more of talus). I was able to rig something up with the laces to get down but I ended up with a very sore ankle. It would have been much worse if I had been on a multi-day backpacking trip.

Forturnately, I purchased these shoes at a brick and mortar store with a very liberal return policy and was able to exchange them for a new pair. Given La Sportiva's stellar reputation, I chalked the experience up to a freak manufacturing defect. Fast forward six weeks and now I'm on another 12 mile hike with 5200' of ascent. Only this time it's granite talus on a mountain that had the added distinction of being 100 miles past the middle of nowhere. Once again, on the descent I felt a ripping sensation and looked down to see the outside seam by the toe had ripped open in the exact same place as it did on the first pair.

La Sportiva has brought back the Italian made, fitted, light hiking boot. The footbed perfectly supports a mid volume foot and fits a normal heel securely.
However, you may need to go up 1 to 1.5 full sizes to accommodate trekking socks, because the Italian last is too narrow for most American feet.
I replaced the foot bed with a Carbon Superfeet orthotic, to open up room for the forefoot. They feel good and look good with Positive Forward Momentum. Go anywhere!

Great hiking boots. Comfortable out of the box. Not intended for mountaineering- too flexible in forefoot for much crampon use. Sole is great in terms of friction. I have a wide forefoot and narrow heel, and order a size larger than other shoes. One reviewer talked about poor quality in terms of stitches. Pay no attention. If you don't prophylactically SeamSeal any boot with exposed stitches, you are asking for problems.
