Editorial Reviews

2012 Release. La Vie Electronique is a series of 3-disc CD releases by Klaus Schulze, reissuing material from his limited edition 50-disc CD box set The Ultimate Edition (2000), which itself collected the previously released limited edition multi-disc box sets Silver Edition (1993, 10 discs), Historic Edition (1995, 10 discs), and Jubilee Edition (1997, 25 discs), along with an additional 5 discs. The series began in 2009 with a plan to release all the music from The Ultimate Edition in chronological order.

Number 10 in the La Vie Electronique series contains material from 1985 through 1991. Included are some live tracks with keyboardist Rainer Bloss from 1985 and continuing with solo material featuring Klaus' use of samplers which continued into the late 90s. Although this is not my favorite period in Klaus' artistic evolution, it is important to have for KS fans. In fact, since getting Volume 10, I have gained a new appreciation for the music of the period. Recommended. There are to be 5 more sets of 3 discs each in the La Vie Electronique series which will bring us from the early 90s to the present day.

As I said in some other reviews, for us, younger fans who have discovered the great artists/bands from the 60s/70s two or three decades later, it is with sheer pleasure that we receive these reissues.

Although not a reissue in the true sense of the word, LVE gives us the chance to own most of the music that was released by KLAUS SCHULZE in box sets in the late 90s including a box set of 50 CDS(!). Of course, these were limited to 2.000 copies and were gone almost immediately.

LVE 10 comprises material from 1985 to 1991 when the master started to experiment with sampled sounds which, at the time, caused some controversy among his fans. Listening to this material after some 25 years gives a new perspective and a fresh grasp of it. Not many people undestand how important and influential this period of SCHULZE's music was for new artists such as Depeche Mode or New Order. Like many others say, this is not my favourite stage in SCHULZE's career although these recordings prove that it deserves to be reassessed and revalued by fans and critics alike.

KLAUS SCHULZE's manager stated not long ago that there are five(!) more CD sets awaiting to be released and three more under the title of THE Rest of KS. And although all of these are ready music and productionwise, this time he's expecting to be paid first by the record company since they (SCHULZE and himself) didn't receive a single penny when some of the former sets were released. I sincerely hope that the rest of the sets may see the light of day sometime soon.

I have always been a great fan of Klaus Schulze and this album didn't disappoint me again. Music like this is just not being produced anymore. Its a shame. Well done Klaus!! :-)
