Product Description

Classic 6 Cup (16 ounce) French Press with stainless steel plunger mechanism. Coffee presses are widely regarded as the best way to make the most flavorful cup of coffee, as there is no paper filter to leach out the essential oils in the coffee.

Actually three cups, I use it to make a large 16 oz cup of strong coffee. Compared to a manual drip method (pour hot water into coffee/filter paper sitting over a cup) this is far more convenient because you just pour once, let it sit, then gently plunge and pour.

Taste? When I make a typical Maxwell House canned coffee, I can't tell much difference between manual drip and french press. But with a great Trader Joe's coffee, freshly ground, WOW did this french press excel. Note, I believe Maxwell House to be the best of the major canned brands, no criticism intended. I just believe a french press makes a difference ONLY if you're doing alll the other things right.

Important note: I went to a store, compared his item to a similar-looking bodum french press, found that the bodum is virtually identicial to this except the bodum's plunger has a plastic piece screwing it all together, this uses metal, looks like stainless steel. That's a very big difference, as the piece in question although small will sit in your hot water as it brews. What's more, the piece holds the whole plunger assembly together, so I sure prefer metal there!

Other notes: very very fast plunger disassembly for rinsing, very very fast reassembly. I give it a good rinse, seems quite sufficient, although every week I give it a more thorough going over to get rid of any buildup. After 1 month I see no sign of any problems (loosening, rust, etc.) Manual says do not pour boiling water into the carafe, let it cool briefly -- I have used a whistling tea kettle, and wait about two seconds with spout open (i.e.I basically ignore this advice except to avoid "superheated" water) with no problem so far.

In summary, it seems to be well designed and made, it is worth trying this item rather than Bodum.

This is my first time using a French press coffee system, and I have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of the coffee. The product is excellent -- I don't find it at all flimsy like some other reviewers -- it's well-made and does the job of making coffee perfectly. In addition, shipping from this company was extremely fast. As others have said, this cafetiere doesn't brew a TRUE six cups. But you get at least 2 good mugs out of it, and if you want more than that, it's best to make a new batch fresh, anyway. The instructions with the product suggest stirring the hot water and grounds together with a wooden spoon before letting it steep for 5 minutes. I advise this step, too, as it seems to enrich the taste of the coffee. I highly recommend this producet to any coffee connoisseur.

This french press worked great...for 4 months. The french press started to crack, simply from the heat of me pouring hot water into it for my coffee, and today a large piece totally cracked off (no shock at all, simply heat related) and now the frenchpress is ruined.

DO NOT BUY. This is an extremely low quality product, and I cannot even return it for a new one despite the fact that it's faulty craftsmanship.

The package arrived very quickly, and in good shape. The cafe press works well -- I've used it nearly every day now for about a month, and am finding that it makes nice coffee. The last one I had (different brand) shattered after several months of use (no abuse!0, so we'll see how durable this one turns out to be.

This is a well made press and is just the right size; it's small enough that we can make one cup, but big enough for two. Perfect!

I love my French press coffee maker. I knew before I ordered that the European press measured 'cups' of coffee very small compared to what we American's think is a cup of coffee, so I bought this 6-cup size so I'd have 2 mugs of coffee in the morning.

I like this particular design - it is appealing to look at.

I enjoy making coffee in it and love the brew that comes out of it. There's a visceral satisfaction in pouring the water over the coffee, stirring, placing the top back on and setting the timer. I can't explain why - it's just really cool - and has been that way for nearly a year of using it.

I bought the 6 cup model about a month ago and immediately fell in love with it. Just enough for one person. However a few days ago, I knocked it over and the thin glass shattered. Oh well, I thought, the Amazon site says the beaker is replaceable so I'll just order a replacement beaker. Well, lots of luck on that one!!! I looked all over the Amazon site and although there was a replacement beaker available for the 8 cup press, there was none to be found for the 6 cup model!! My advice: buy the 8 cup model; at least you can buy a replacement for that size. The 8 cup model, btw, is 1000 ml, or one liter, just over a quart.
